Kelly was amazing with our 3 dogs! They absolutely loved her. She is so friendly and went above and beyond to make both us and the dogs feel comfortable. We really appreciated the photo updates and check-ins—it gave us peace of mind while we were away. Kelly is reliable, caring, and clearly great with animals. Highly recommend her for anyone looking for a trustworthy dog sitter!

We were very happy with Kayla. She followed our instructions for house sitting and accomplished everything we needed. Our home was neat and clean upon our return and she did a good job of watering our flowers. Most importantly, our pup like her right away. Kayla took her on walks and the neighbors that she ran into thought she was nice, polite, and taking good care of our pup. We received photos from Kayla every day and in them, our pup seemed relaxed which was reassuring. We will definitely use her again.

Tuesday is a great dog sitter! She is friendly, professional, knowledgeable and responsible! I have a small Boston Terrier that needs a lot of love and attention. I was a little worried that leaving her behind on our trip would put a lot of stress on her. But when we returned from our long weekend away , I was pleased to see our Boston was more calm and relaxed then when we left her! Tuesday did a great job caring for our dog! I would recommend Tuesday without a doubt!

We recently entrusted our dogs, Amber and Bella, to Shannon for two days, and we couldn't be happier with her service! As this was our first time leaving our pups, we were understandably nervous. However, Shannon eased our worries by being punctual and highly communicative throughout our time away. She sent us adorable pictures of Amber and Bella, which truly made us feel at ease. It was clear that our dogs were in great hands. We highly recommend Shannon for anyone looking for a reliable and caring dog sitter. Thank you, Shannon

About: I am a Fear Free certified veterinary technician of 13 years who grew up in the show dog world (AKC) before getting into rescue as an adult. Throughout my long-lived animal career I have participated in puppy/kitten/basic obedience training, behavioral rehabilitation, dog sport training, senior care, care for animals with extreme medical needs, and owned/operated a group play doggie daycare. My jobs, hobbies, and passions are all centered around animals and I can't wait to bring that passion to you! I am home full-time, and available for puppies and animals with heavy needs. I have a fairly set schedule for all of the pets in my care, and that level of routine provides comfort to even the most nervous of pups. I am the only Fear Free pet carer in Bakersfield! I provide comforting classical music as well as calming pheromones in the sleeping spaces to make their stay as stress-free as possible. I have a fenced yard and never leave dogs together unsupervised. I do not provide an environment suitable for animals with a history of dog aggression. Small dogs I can be more flexible with, as their attitude usually comes from a place of fear and that is something I can work with for the little guys.

About: I am often characterized as a compassionate person, and that I extend that care to animals as well. For most of my life I’ve learned that are family, and family is never felt behind. Pets deserve a good friend. I currently don’t have a job. But I do study for three days a week. I’d be best for part time. Four out of seven days a week. I follow whatever routine and set up pet owners have, since all dogs have their own life and personality. I routinely check for cleanliness of a pet and proper mental stimulation.

About: I’m a dedicated 21 year old dog lover who currently cares for two rescued female puppies. They are friendly and fixed :) Raising young shelter dogs has given me hands-on experience with puppy routines, socialization, basic training, exercise, and lots of patience. I understand the importance of consistency, positive reinforcement, and creating a safe, comfortable environment for pets. Growing up, I also owned a Chihuahua and spent time dog walking for others ever since I was a kid, which helped me learn how to work with dogs of different sizes, personalities, and energy levels. I’m comfortable with active puppies, shy dogs, and dogs that need extra attention and reassurance. What sets me apart is that I genuinely enjoy spending time with animals and treat every pet as if they were my own. Whether your dog needs playtime, walks, cuddles, or simply a caring companion while you're away, I’m committed to making sure they feel safe, happy, and loved. Pet care fits naturally into my daily routine. I currently work part-time as a delivery driver, which gives me a flexible schedule and allows me to stay close to home throughout the day. Because of that, I’m able to provide frequent potty breaks, exercise, playtime, feeding, and plenty of attention. I care for my own two young dogs every day, so pet care is already a major part of my routine. When I'm not working, I spend time walking, training, playing with, and caring for them. My flexible schedule allows me to adjust my day around the needs of the pets in my care and make sure they receive the attention, supervision, and affection they deserve. Safety is my top priority when caring for pets. In my home, dogs have access to a large, securely fenced yard where they can play, exercise, and explore safely under supervision. I also have a large crate available for dogs who are crate-trained or need a quiet place to relax. If a dog needs their own space, I can separate them using a dog gate and provide a comfortable area in my home where they can rest safely. I always monitor interactions between pets and make sure each dog is comfortable and stress-free. When caring for pets in a client's home, I follow their routines as closely as possible, including feeding schedules, exercise, medications, and any special instructions. I believe consistency helps pets feel secure and comfortable while their owners are away. My goal is to provide a safe, calm, and caring environment where every pet feels at home.

About: I've been surrounded by pets my entire life, giving me a deep understanding and a genuine passion for their care. From leisurely walks to cozy days in, I've extended my love and patience to not only my neighbors' pets but also to my own 4 cats and several local strays. My commitment to providing a nurturing, fun, and safe environment for pets is unwavering. I believe every pet deserves love and dedicated care, and I bring this philosophy to life with every furry friend I meet. Pet care is my main focus, allowing me to have an extremely flexible schedule throughout the week and on weekends. Because I manage my own hours, I can easily adapt to your dog’s or cat's specific routine, making sure they get their walks, meals, and potty breaks exactly when they are used to them. Whether you need early morning visits, midday dog walks, or someone dedicated to staying overnight at your house, I can structure my day perfectly around your pet’s needs to ensure they are never left waiting! About: I’ve been the family baby/dog sitter since I was 13! My whole family have always had pets and relied on me to take care of them! I’ve also taken care of my neighbors dog for several years enthusiastically. I’ve always found dogs to be the closest comfort, which is a reason to trust me. I’d take care of your dog like my own, as I hold them mine very close to my heart. I have a part time job working with kids, so I’m very available to book! I’m fully available four days of the week and I always have time to spend with your fur friends before and after work. In my home, I occasionally use a crate for my german shepherd, most of the time he is loose. He’s gotten accustomed to sleeping on my bed or my parent’s bedroom and we feed him early in the morning. Following his morning meal is a long walk. We make sure he’s well groomed with daily brushing and a wash once a week. Levi has allergies so we make sure to always apply topical remedies and purchase a high quality kind of dog food.

About: I have owned dogs since childhood and have volunteered at shelters a couple of times. Helping animals in anyway is my passion and I will go out of my way to accommodate to your pets needs. I have only cared for small dogs growing up so I am most comfortable with them. I love animals, growing up I’d want to take in every animal I saw out on the street. Unfortunately that is not suitable for me lol, but I will care for your pet as if it is my own. I enjoy meeting new animals as it can be fun to see how different their personalities present, it also gives me an opportunity to learn and adapt. Please rest assured that they will be in good hands :) I am a part-time student and with summer coming around I am available most week days, including sunday as well. I will be able to attend to your pets from morning to afternoon. But sunday I will be available all day if needed. My schedule is flexible if given a day or two notice. I own one senior chihuahua, attend to stray cats and own fish. With my dog now being a senior, I am able to administrate supplements if needed. I can also attend to other animals in the house if needed. Such as doing water changes for your aquarium or feeding them. I have been a fish keeper for over 3 years. I will do my absolute best to show up however your pet needs.

Hermione is super knowledgeable, caring, and responsive.   I have a rescue Belgian Malanois that's slow to warm up to strangers, but Hermione was patient and so good with my dog, and my dog liked her surprisingly quickly.  She was also super accommodating and available when I was away and kept me updated with pics even though I told her it wasn't necessary.  You can tell she is doing it because she loves dogs and not just to make a buck.  So glad I found her!

FAQs for House Sitting - Bakersfield

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Bakersfield on Rover is $40 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 221 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Bakersfield. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Bakersfield walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Bakersfield maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Bakersfield choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Bakersfield. On Rover:

  • 93% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 93% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 93% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
