“James was fantastic! He went out of his way to check on our kitties and give them love. He made sure my elderly cat had her kidney foot. He’s punctual, compassionate, and respectful thank you James!”

About: Dogs were my first love. I've cared for dogs young and old, adopted and fostered dogs, raised puppies, provided training at all ages, and provided post-op and healthcare for unwell dogs. I have extensive experience loving and supporting dogs through their toughest moments, including separation anxiety, phobias, and illnesses. I've walked with pups from all paws of life - all breeds, ages, energies, and personalities - and loved them all!! All dogs are wonderful, and I will never, ever discriminate by breed. As a full-time dog pamperer, I've got plenty of attention, love, toys, and fluffy blankets to keep your furbaby happy and loved while you are away! I will love your dog exactly as they are - high-energy, low-energy, and everything in between. Whether they want endless walks or endless snuggles, I am excited to make your dog's stay an unforgettable getaway just for them! I know how hard it is to trust someone with your best friend. I'm happy to go above and beyond to make you feel confident that your pet is in good hands - from photos and updates to video check-ins. Your comfort matters to me just as much as your furbaby's. I always provide top-tier pet care, giving you peace of mind so you can enjoy your vacation to the fullest! I have a highly flexible schedule that allows me to give your pup all the love and attention they deserve! I am delighted to accommodate your furbaby anytime with enough notice. I am available for boarding weekends and weekdays, any time of year. My dog is the center of my universe, and I will treat your pup like they were my own! My house is their house, and my furniture is their furniture! My wonderful 9-year-old dog, Cleo, will be happy to keep your furbaby company. She's super friendly, low-energy, and always eager for a cuddle. I have access to a private dog park, an unfenced yard, and easy access to nearby nature trails, parks, and beaches! I can't wait to meet your furbaby!
About: Hi there! I recently finished grad school and I'm using this transition time for doing things that I love— like spending time with dogs. I have two years of paid experience as a dog walker and in-home pet sitter, plus a lifetime of hands-on experience with my own family's medium and large breed dogs (GSD). I'm reliable, patient, and comfortable with dogs who have a lot of energy or need a confident, steady presence. Whether your pup needs a midday walk or some extra attention, I'd love to help. Flexible availability and happy to meet beforehand so you and your dog feel comfortable! Given I am between grad school and starting my career, I have a flexible schedule and considerable availability. I'm available weekdays and weekends, so I can offer consistent, reliable care whether it's a one-time walk or an ongoing arrangement. When I'm in a client's home, I treat it with the same respect and attention I'd want for my own space. I follow the owner's routine and instructions closely — feeding times, walk schedules, medication, and any specific habits or needs your pet has. I make sure doors and gates are secure, keep an eye out for anything that could be a hazard, and always double-check locks when coming and going. For the pets themselves, I focus on keeping their routine as normal as possible: regular walks, playtime, fresh water, and plenty of affection so they don't feel anxious or lonely while their owners are away. I am happy to send an update with some pictures when I’m with your pet! Additionally, while on walks I typically avoid dog parks and other interactions with dogs unless this is requested by the owner.
“Madison was amazing with our cat, Sprout! She kept us updated with adorable photos and took great care of her while we were away. We came home to a happy kitty and couldn't have asked for a better sitter. Highly recommend!”

“George seemed happy and healthy when we got home! Jim had no problem with George's medication and kept the litter box clean. He fed him on time and figured out the automatic feeder, and checked in each visit. Everything went well!”

“Sammi took excellent care of my two cats!- she was able to accommodate my request despite it being last-minute (which i try to avoid, but can happen!). She communicated very well & followed all my ridiculously detailed instructions! Definitely would recommend her to other pet owners 😊”

About: I'm an experienced house and pet sitter with 30+ 5-star completed sits along the East Coast through TrustedHousesitters and personal referrals. I'm now offering my services through Rover in the Portsmouth area and 25-mile radius. I've cared for dogs and cats of all ages and temperaments, including senior pets, animals with anxiety or trauma histories, and pets with special needs. I'm comfortable administering medications and following detailed care routines. What you can expect: I learn each animal's routine rather than applying one approach to every pet. I send daily photo updates. I'm naturally tidy and leave homes clean and calm, and I'm glad to look after plants or a garden while I'm there. A few practical notes, so we can both tell early whether it's a good fit: 1. Meet & greet before every first booking. I require a video call or an in-person visit so we can both assess fit. You get to meet me and ask whatever you need to; I get to meet your pet and see the space. Until we've had that conversation, please treat my response as interest rather than a confirmed booking, and keep your other options open. I won't accept a booking before a meet and greet for house sitting. 2. Weekday availability. I see clients on video Monday through Friday, 10a–4p. I'm in the home the whole time, so your pets get frequent short breaks and company throughout the day, but I'm not available for walks or errands during those hours. I am able to support potty breaks during the 12:00-1:00pm hour. 3. Workspace. I need a desk or table at standard height with a supportive chair in a room with a door that closes, plus wifi that reliably holds a video call. I bring my own laptop, monitor, and stand, so I only need the surface and the space. 4. Pets I care for. Calm adult dogs and cats. I'm not currently accepting puppies under a year, and I'd want to talk first about dogs with a bite history, special medical needs, or significant reactivity. 5. Service area. Based in the Portsmouth/Eliot area; I generally take bookings within about 25 miles. 6. Notice. At least two days for new clients, and more when possible for longer stays. Tell me about your pet — their routines, quirks, and what makes them feel safest. I'd love to hear it! I work from home with structured hours, which allows me to be available for walks, feeding, medication schedules, playtime, and companionship at certain times of the day, roughly every 3-4 hours. My approach is calm and intentional. I honor your pet’s established rhythm and do my best to create a grounded environment that feels like home. When I’m caring for pets in a client’s home, my top priority is to maintain a sense of safety, routine, and calm. I take time to learn your pet’s unique routines, preferences, and personality so I can offer care that feels familiar. In the home, I’m quiet, clean, and respectful of your space. I aim to leave things just as I found them—or better. I water plants, bring in mail, manage light tidying, and keep things running smoothly so you can return home with ease. I also provide thoughtful updates with photos and check-ins, so you feel connected while away.

“Garrett was thorough and responsive when taking care of Pecan (shorthair brown tabby) and communicating with me. From working with other pet sitters, I learned I need someone who appreciates the individual quirks of cats, and Garrett seems to do exactly that. I will definitely leave my Peekster in his capable hands next time I'm away.”

“Linda cared for my pets while we were away for a wedding. She was marvelous! Besides just feeding and walking them, she got to know them as individuals. Making sure that the more assertive cat didn’t eat the other cats food and learning how to manage the dog walks. She even let me know when there was a potential issue at the house…”
“Xi was a very loving and gentle cat sitter for my 2 kitties during a recent extended trip. She managed insulin injections for my youngest sweetheart! Always a good communicator and very respectful! I would not hesitate to call for Xi again!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Acorn Acres
Krista was AWESOME. I booked her within the week I needed her services, so we didn’t have a chance to meet beforehand, but I left her detailed notes regarding what she needed to know when coming to our home to walk our dogs. Krista followed everything to a T, and sent lots of pictures. I got a detailed play by play of the visit, and it looks like my pups loved her. ❤️ They were certainly content when I got home. We will look forward to using Krista again for our puppies’ needs!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.
Before booking, confirm:
- the timing, length, and frequency of visits;
- the care instructions the sitter should follow;
- which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
- how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.
Not every sitter offers the same services, availability, or booking options. Review their profile and discuss the care you need through Rover before booking each service.
If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.
The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.
Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.
During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first .
sitters on Rover set their own , which you can find on their profile under their contact information. Sitters may set a same-day, one-, three-, or seven-day cancellation policy. Cancelling within your sitter’s cancellation policy qualifies you for a full refund.
Same-day cancellations for recurring services, which include walks, drop-ins, and day care, follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for pet boarding and house sitting, if you cancel after 12 pm on the applicable cancellation deadline, you’ll receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for any remaining days.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means you will get a full refund and our support team will work with you to find a replacement sitter.
