“Alex is awesome with our two dogs and they can definitely be a handful at times. She is very responsive and sends pictures the entire time we’re away. The boys love her and we will continue to use her in the future.”

“We decided to go out of town for the day/night very last minute and Kelseys was able to squeeze us into her schedule and we are so thankful! Her communication was amazing and we loved seeing the pictures of our babies. Definitely recommended!”

“Martha was phenomenal. She came by several times beforehand to make sure she and our dogs got along. Finn is slow to warm up to folks but she had him wagging his tail and happy to see by the end of the weekend. I would highly recommend Martha to anyone in need of an overnight pet sitter. Our house was left immaculate and our dogs are happy. That’s what any person wants when they return home.”

About: i’ve grown up around animals my entire life and have always had a soft spot for them. I have experience with sitting pets and even have some background interning at multiple vets so I understand the love and care pets need. I am reliable and compassionate about the care your pets are given because I would want the absolute best care for my fur babies! Currently working part time, I am available early mornings from 7–11 AM and I am also available later in the evenings after 7 PM. currently between jobs so my upcoming schedule will be changing! but I can always adjust once I get a new schedule. I will not be able to provide services that involve bringing your animal to my home, mainly because we live on 160 acres with no backyard fencing. I also have two small dogs in the house and a cat who do not get along very well with other animals.
“You can definitely tell that Brianna loves dogs! My dogs were so well cared for and happy after being gone for a week. She gave me great piece of mind, and will definitely use her again! Thank you rover.com for bringing this little angel to me!”
“We used Hannah’s house-sitting services again, but this time to watch our dogs overnight. Hannah takes such good care of our babies and sends photos throughout her time with them, so you know they’re in excellent hands. Our dogs love her, and we will definitely have Hannah watch our dogs again.”

“Abigayle took care of our 3 fur babies for the weekend and was amazing! We are so happy with the care she provided to them while staying in our home. We absolutely will rebook with her!”

“Phoenix was amazing house sitting for us and our two puppies! She sent us updates every day, took great care of our house and we came home to a clean house and tired, happy dogs. I would absolutely trust her to care for our dogs and home in the future!”

About: I worked at a dog boarding center for a year. As well as taking care of family and friends animals before. I feel like I’ve had a way with animals since I was younger, even without trying animals seem to attract to me. I currently have a part-time job but with pretty flexible hours. In January, I start school, but it’s a hybrid schedule so it’s only three days out of the week. In my home, my pets get fed once a day but they’re on a pretty strict diet so we feed them lots of fresh meat and vitamins. They have a backyard to run free in and are constantly getting attention from me. I currently have four dogs and back home with my parents I have one dog and a cat.
About: I'm ready to spoil your fur babies with endless love, belly rubs and top notch care while you're away. I'll treat them just like my own and send you plenty of cute photo updates. I can't wait to become your pet's new best friend! I am currently working full time and will be available anytime after 5pm and on the weekends. I offer drop ins and also dog walking. I can come walk, play with, feed your dog or cat, in your own home. I will follow your care instructions and ensure your baby receives top notch care while you're away.
About: I have personal experience caring for both dogs and cats. I helped care for a small family dog for about 3 years, assisting with feeding, daily care, and attention. I also independently cared for my own cat for several months, managing feeding, cleaning, and overall care. Pet care has been part of my daily routine. I would come home during lunch breaks to check on and care for my pet, and after work I handled feeding, cleaning, and attention. I’m also generally free on weekends for consistent pet care and supervision. I make sure pets are cared for in a safe, clean, and comfortable environment while following any instructions provided by the owner. I focus on keeping pets supervised, maintaining their routines, providing attention and care, and making sure they feel comfortable and secure at all times.
“10 STAR RATING!!! We loved Alexis!!! She was so responsive from the get go, her personality so warming right when we met her, and she was so attentive to our dog Buddy!! We highly recommend her and we will definitely be repeat customers!! :)”

About: I have taken care of animals on and off personally and for others since I was 15. I love animals and would love to help out others who need someone to trust! I am currently not working, so I am available at all hours! I can do live in or check ins, and just love spending time with animals. I have a fenced yard but some roommates, so taking care of animals at my home is not realistic, as well as against my lease.

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Abilene
Phoenix was great with our dogs. She stepped in at the last minute which was a big deal because Finn doesn’t warm up to folks right away. Phoenix wasn’t intimidated and said, “We’ll be ok.” She had Finn eating out of her hand the next day. She gave timely updates and photos and we returned home to happy, healthy, clearly well taken care of dogs. Additionally, Phoenix stripped the bed, started the laundry and left the house clean and organized. She is a gem and we will use her again for sure.

Levi did an excellent job taking care of our pups while we were away! He was very kind, patient, and caring with them, which gave us so much peace of mind. It was obvious that he genuinely cared about making sure they were happy and well looked after. We came home to two happy dogs, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable and compassionate dog sitter!

Sam was an awesome dog sitter for our two boys! She took very good care of them and sent us lots of photos. We came home to two very happy babies, a clean house, and the sweetest note from her. She even drew me a beautiful picture!! I definitely would recommend Sam to anyone looking for a dog sitter in Abilene!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Abilene walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Abilene maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Abilene choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
