“Julie is incredibly kind with Romina and treats her as if she were her own cat. She kept me updated with photos throughout the stay, which gave me so much peace of mind. She made sure Romina was well fed, spent time playing with her, and even slept beside her. It was clear that Romina was loved and cared for the entire time. I’m so grateful and would absolutely trust Julie with Romina again.”

“Diana was fantastic and we would 100% book her again. Our two dogs took to her quickly at our initial meeting, which put me at great ease. She stayed in our home for 3 nights with our 11 month old puppy and our 14 year old dog. They both have completely different personalities and needs. Diana sent us videos and photos of the dogs, and little updates each day. The house was also well taken care of and looked as if no one had been here. We were able to enjoy our trip without worry and knew the dogs were in good hands. I would definitely recommend her for anyone looking for a sitter.”

“Maria was incredible to work with. I was nervous to leave my best friend in the care of anyone besides me but my nerves were quickly relieved. Maria took the time to have a meet and greet so he knew her beforehand and also was extremely professional, asking lots of relevant questions to make sure she knew exactly what to do. Frequent photo updates kept me from wondering about him on my vacation. 100% would recommend Maria and I will be using her again”

“Kendra was so lovely to work with - she was friendly, understanding, and communicative. She was great about checking in with regular updates, and she took excellent care of our dogs and our home while we were away. Would definitely love to work with her again!”

About: Hi, I'm Brooke! I’m 19 years old and have been around animals my entire life. Growing up, I was never without a pet, and caring for animals has always come naturally to me. My first cat, Hunter Patches, was a huge part of my life before he passed last year. Since then, I’ve welcomed two new cats, Loki and Marie, into my family. I also have a 10 year old rescue dog named Gunner and recently rescued a bearded dragon named Dino. I’m comfortable caring for cats, dogs, and reptiles, and I understand that every animal has their own personality and needs. Friends and family have trusted me to feed, play with, check on, and care for their pets while they’re away. I’m patient, attentive, dependable, and genuinely love spending time with animals of all kinds. Pet care fits naturally into my daily schedule because caring for animals has always been a part of my daily life. I have a flexible routine and enjoy spending time feeding, playing with, walking, and giving attention to pets throughout the week. I will care for your pets like they’re my own by keeping them fed, comfortable, safe, and loved while you’re away. I’ll follow their routines closely, give them plenty of attention and playtime, and make sure they feel calm and cared for in their home environment.
“Kaylah is very responsive and dependable. She did a great job with my very nervous rescue dog, putting my dog right at ease. We’re looking forward to having her back!”

“Riley did a great job taking care of my for children. I receive lots of photos and interaction for the long weekend that I was gone. I will definitely use him in the future if he is available.”

“Jenna was great- responsive, friendly and responsible. Sitting my skittish, introverted rescue pup takes an extra level, and I really appreciate her knowledge and comfort around animals!”

“Our three dogs with very different needs can be a lot to manage (a rambunctious 18 month old, a five year old, and an elder dog in significant decline), and Adriana took great care of all of them simultaneously. She asks the right questions and communicates clearly and quickly to resolve anything that comes up. We could not be happier with how she works with us and cares for Maddie, Olaf, and Otter.”

About: My family adopted our first puppy when I was 5 years old and I assisted with the training and care of all 3 of our dogs since then. My childhood pal lived to be 16 and I helped take care of him throughout all stages of life. I work a 9 - 5 in person but have plenty availability before and after work for early morning or early evening walks. Weekends and weeknights are no problem for my schedule. Please lay out any specific care instructions for long-term visits so I can ensure that your pet is getting the same care and regimen from me as they would you.
“So grateful for John! Very understanding of the difficulties I had leaving my Luna for the first time like this - sent me multiple texts, pictures and videos assuring me she was doing well and happy. Very flexible with my schedule and made the point to come meet Luna ahead of time on a previous day. Very attentive to Luna's schedule and her specific little quirks. Luna clearly enjoyed her time, giving John a super speed tail wag and some kisses before we left.”

“Alyssa did a wonderful job with Chicken!! -- especially given her special needs. I appreciate the communication and pictures/videos that Alyssa sent. Given that Chicken is an older cat and has some vision issues, it was nice to know that she was well taken care of. Thank you Alyssa!!!”

“Yelitza was absolutely wonderful with my pups. She stayed with them at my house while I was away, and spent plenty of time with them to keep them happy and loved, - walks, plays, and snuggles. She was very engaged and meticulous, and I was very happy about the whole experience.”
“As always the dogs were well taken care of and Emalynn was a joy to have stay here. They miss her already! It is great to come home from vaca to happy fur babies. Thank you”

“Kristin was great!! She kept me up to date with everything going on while we were gone and sent a ton of pictures which me and the kids were very happy about. Her dog Leo and our dog looked like they got along really well and he actually looked like he was smiling in some of the pictures. Thank you for taking such great care of Crosby.”

“Nora is truly exceptional, and I cannot recommend her highly enough. She took care of my dogs, Lucy and Betty, and went above and beyond in every possible way. During her time with them, an unexpected and serious fight broke out—their first ever—and it was a terrifying situation. Nora handled it with incredible professionalism, calmness, and expertise. She acted immediately, knowing exactly what to do without hesitation, and managed the situation safely and responsibly. I was so grateful she was the one there in that moment. She even had a first aid kit on hand and was able to tend to their wounds right away, which gave me immense peace of mind. What meant just as much was her communication throughout the entire ordeal. She kept me informed every step of the way with clarity, compassion, and reassurance during what was a very scary time for all of us. Her thoughtfulness and transparency made an enormous difference. I trust Nora completely and wholeheartedly. She demonstrated not only skill and preparedness, but genuine care and dedication. Anyone would be incredibly lucky to have her looking after their pets. I would recommend her without hesitation to anyone seeking truly outstanding care for their furbabies.”

About: I’ve had pets since I was a child. Dogs, cats, rodents, reptiles, birds - you name it. I’ve always been an animal lover and even wanted to be a veterinarian until I found out was euthanasia is. In my adolescence, I began pet sitting and volunteering with the SPCA (where we adopted all of our pets); small and big dogs, and sometimes multiple at a time. I started to experiment with training and enjoyed teaching tricks and obedience commands. When I turned 19, I inherited my family dog, Rocco, and we became best friends. My favorite memories from those years are taking him to parks and reserves across New York State. In 2025, he got sick and I learned a lot from taking care of him through the end of his life. It was important to me that he felt like a happy, special dog during his last days because he filled my life with so much joy. The day before his euthanasia, I invited everyone who knew him to celebrate his life. He was showered in presents and treats and cuddles and surrounded by humans he loved. Animals share such unique bonds with us. Now, I am looking for opportunities to share my love of animals through Rover. I hope you consider me as your next pet sitter. I am available! My best times are evenings and weekends, with sporadic availability midday during the week. I work 8-4 Monday through Thursday at a local farm collective in Kirkville and a community garden in South Syracuse. In my free time, I enjoy making art in all kinds of media and being outside. I am looking to spend my time with animals and make their lives happy and bright! Trust and safety is my utmost priority. Through many years of being around different animals, I learned the important of an initial bond based in trust and respect. I hold myself with strength and create an energy of a safe and inviting environment. I am able to gauge an animal’s personality and demeanor, and adjust accordingly. For pets that love to play, I am always happy to bring out my goofy and fun-loving side. For more reserved companions, I enjoy taking things slow and doing calmer activities. Most of all, a pet’s joy and comfort is my number one goal!

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Westvale
We went on a two week trip and had Kristin watch our dogs in our home while we were gone and she was great!! She arrived at the expected time and was very communicative throughout our trip and made sure to send pictures every day. She also gave both dogs meds while she was here, and made sure they were as relaxed as these could be when there were fireworks. She kept an eye on the house and took initiative to reach out about a few household issues that popped up while we were gone which I really appreciated! The dogs got walked every reasonable day and she made sure they had plenty of outdoor time in our yard. She left the house just as clean, if not cleaner, than we left it which is also so helpful to come home to after a long trip. Overall, I felt very comfortable traveling while Kristin was watching our dogs in our home and I would definitely book her again!!

Frequently asked questions about Rover

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Westvale walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Westvale maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Westvale choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Westvale. On Rover:
- 96% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 100% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
