Eva is lovely and gets as much info as possible about your dog. Hamish adored her and she sent me reassuring photos about his walk. Highly recommend.

About: Hi, I’m James—a recently retired IT professional with 30 years of experience, now embracing a slower, more soulful pace of life in beautiful Galashiels. At 59, I’ve swapped out the boardroom for bridle paths and couldn’t be happier spending my days outdoors with four-legged companions. Originally from Canada with Scottish roots (both my parents are from here), I’ve recently relocated from Surrey. Dogs have always been a huge part of my life—I've had over a dozen of my own over the years, including our recent beloved springer spaniel, Cilla, who lived a full and happy life despite having epilepsy from the age of one. I’ve long been the go-to dog sitter/walker for friends and family, especially when they’re off on holiday. Whether it’s energetic pups or older dogs needing a gentler pace, I’m experienced, patient, and genuinely love their company. I understand the trust it takes to leave your pet in someone else’s care, and I take that responsibility seriously. If your dog enjoys countryside walks, a calm and confident handler, and a bit of extra TLC, I’d love to meet them. Let’s make tails wag together! I'm retired now so my schedule’s really flexible, so I can easily fit in walks, drop-ins, or longer stays without juggling other work commitments. I’ve always been the one friends and family turn to when they need someone to look after their pets, so it feels very natural to build that into my weekly routine. Whether I’m looking after a dog in my home or visiting them in theirs, their safety and comfort always come first. At my place in Galashiels, dogs have a calm, secure environment with plenty of space to relax—and of course, access to lovely countryside walks right on the doorstep. I keep things clean, quiet, and stress-free, and I’m always mindful of each dog’s routine, diet, and any special needs. Having cared for dogs with medical conditions (like our spaniel Cilla, who had epilepsy), I’m confident handling medications and keeping a close eye on their wellbeing. If I’m caring for a dog in their own home, I treat it with the same respect I’d expect from someone looking after mine. I stick closely to the dog’s usual routine to help them feel settled, and I always keep communication open with regular updates and photos so owners know their pet is happy and in good hands.

About: “Her and the Hound” started from my love for dogs and the simple joy of being outdoors. It’s about building trust, routine, and real connection giving every dog the care, attention, and adventure they deserve. I’ve turned my passion into a business that’s reliable, personal, and built from the heart. I’m currently working part-time for someone else and part-time doing dog walking and sitting, I’m looking to go full time by next year so I’ll have plenty of time for your pups I have a very friendly spaniel who loves to keep other dogs company but if your dog isn’t so keen on animals that’s perfectly fine too. My home is comfortable and safe for any size of dog, I have a crate if your dog likes to go in and in my van for walking I have secured crates for travel.

About: I’m a kind and compassionate pet owner and lover who loves spending time with my horse and dog going on big hacks with my dog along side and would adore your pet the same! I currently work full time 8am-8pm however, very flexible only doing this 3x a week. However, this changes often and can accommodate from month to month. I have a lot of responsibility with my pets. My dog is walked 2x big walks a day with my horse also being fed and groomed and ridden everyday also!

About: I’ve grown up with dogs in the house! They are part of the family, I love spending time with them and especially like taking them on runs with me or walks on the beach. I am from the Scottish Borders and have moved home for the summer before starting my legal traineeship in Edinburgh. I have a very flexible schedule! I live on a farm with lots of green space (no live stock) so it is a really nice place to walk dogs! I also have my drivers license so can go else where for walks too.

About: I have around 3 years of experience caring for dogs and I truly love spending time with them. I currently work as a bank worker in a dog day care setting, where I help with collection and drop‑off around Edinburgh and support daily exploratory walks. This has given me experience managing different dogs, understanding behaviour and ensuring their safety in group environments. I also regularly walk dogs for neighbours and family in Peebles. I do this mainly because I enjoy it and love being outdoors with dogs. At home, I have 5 children who also love animals, so dogs are always treated as part of the family. I provide a calm, caring and safe environment where dogs feel comfortable and relaxed. I am very active and enjoy long exploratory walks, but I am also happy to adapt exercise depending on each dog’s individual needs. I prefer to care for a maximum of one or two dogs at a time to give them full attention and ensure their wellbeing. I have completed the IMDT Professional Day Care and Boarding qualification , which supports my understanding of dog welfare, behaviour and safe handling. I currently work part‑time from home, which gives me good flexibility to care for dogs during the week. I am available for walks, home visits and daycare, and I can also offer boarding. My daily routine already includes time outdoors, so I enjoy taking dogs on regular walks, whether this is a calm one-hour walk or a longer exploratory walk depending on the dog’s needs. I am happy to adapt my schedule to suit each dog, especially if they require specific routines for feeding, rest or exercise. I normally keep owners informed by sending regular updates and photos of our daily activities, so they can see how their dog is doing and feel reassured. I provide a safe environment where dogs are treated as part of the family. I usually care for one or two dogs at a time so I can give them my full attention and make sure they feel comfortable. In my home, dogs have access to indoor & outdoor spaces to rest and relax, as well as regular time for walks and enrichment. I always prioritise safety, using leads, harnesses or controlled environments where appropriate, and adapting activities to each dog’s age, health and personality.

About: I look after friends and family’s pets whenever necessary, and have been a part of Rover for a wee while now. I have experience with different breeds/sizes and love time spent with animals! I’m currently working part time and my hours are very flexible week by week! I live right next to the pentlands so plenty walks and outdoor time. I have a fenced garden at the back, with decking, and a front garden space. I have one young female spaniel called Rosie who is friendly (although likes to make a fair noise when first meeting new friends).

Tess looked after Freddie on two of my office days this week and was fantastic. Communication was excellent, she was always on time, and I received lovely photo updates throughout. Freddie clearly had a great time! I’d happily recommend Tess to friends and would absolutely rely on her again whenever Freddie needs care 😊

About: I looked after my family dogs and friends dogs too. I had lots of pets in the past because I love animals and I had a field. I work from home and have a lovely dog. I live by the meadows and take my dog for amazing walks. It is an opportunity to enjoy the company of best human friends in a pleasant atmosphere. Dogs who came here had the time of their lives. Friends suggested me I should be looking after dogs. I have a lovely dog. I work from home flexible hours so they are all day with me, right next to me getting cuddles and attention and exercise. I have a nice fenced garden, a cosy living room and kitchen. I live by the meadows in Edinburgh, dogs paradise. I only need to cross over to the most amazing park.

You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available for dedicated customer support by email or chat if you have concerns.

The personalised, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.

Yes, absolutely! Many sitters on Rover are experienced in caring for multiple pets simultaneously, whether you have a pack of dogs, a clowder of cats, or a mix of both.

Look for sitters who highlight multi-pet expertise or check for verified reviews from other Scottish Borders pet parents with similar pet households.

Every sitter on Rover must pass an identity verification before they can list their services. An identity verification confirms that the sitter is who they say they are based on their documents.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit our Trust & Safety page .

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Scottish Borders choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a key safe or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.

Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a key safe. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalised codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.

If you live in a flat, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or lift etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Emergency support is available by phone or email in English, French, German, and Spanish from Mon-Sat 9am to 6pm. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a qualified vet or offer other resources to help.

If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s booking protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
