“Trisha graciously watched my 2 older dogs at the last minute in my home. She was an amazing houseguest, and was incredible with my visually impaired dog who requires various daily medications. My other grumpy dog took to Trisha immediately, which is remarkable as he can be stingy with his affection. Thank you Trisha and we all look forward to seeing you again soon.❤️”

About: I have experience caring for my own dog and am comfortable with dogs of all sizes and personalities. I also care for a rabbit and reptiles at home, which has helped me become comfortable with different types of pets and their individual routines and needs.I partially trained my own dog and continue to train and learn more about dog training. I’m currently waiting to start school remotely so will be home near constantly. I do occasionally leave the house but never for long amounts of time. I live in an apartment but can go on walks frequently. I also have my own dog is is dog friendly and loves to play. I am very much an animal person and can spend as much time with your pet as needed

About: Throughout my life, we've always had dogs in the house and, as I’ve gotten older, there was definitely a period where it seemed more like a zoo than a human household with all of our rescues. When I was in high school, I fell in love with training dogs and really never wanted to do anything else. Over the years, I’ve made every effort to immerse myself in the field through work at Petco and multiple daycares, as a volunteer at Kent Animal Shelter, as a student with the Animal Behavior College, becoming a CPDT, opening my own business, and tentatively dipping my toes into the grooming aspect of it all as well. Hopefully, as time goes on, I can continue to pursue my dog training career as a multifaceted professional and expand more fully into my own business. I run my own multifaceted pet services business offering a variety of options from training and boarding to walking and photography, so my whole day circulates around pet-related bookings and activities. I live on half an acre of land with a fully fenced in yard, separate attached dog run, and plenty of space to run! We do a perimeter check twice daily to make sure the fencing is secure and the grounds are meeting our standards of cleanliness. I can easily crate dogs if that’s what their paw-rents request, but also have no problem allowing them to roam through the house if that’s what they’re accustomed to. I do have a few pups of my own, but they’re the friendliest guys you’ll ever meet — one is actually a quadriplegic! Everyone is in their own space while eating and stay separated for about an hour following meals to allow food to digest. Let me know if there are any other accommodations your pet needs!

About: My love for animals has stayed constant throughout my life. I am currently a receptionist at a veterinary hospital. I would love to continue my education in the veterinary field. I have always especially loved dogs and never been without a dog in my home. I have a 1 year old bichon-shih tzu mix, Lulu, who is full of energy and loves to play. Depending on the pup I'm housing or if I'm house sitting, Lulu can either stay in my home, as she loves other dogs or I can take her to my friend's house for dogs who would prefer to be the only dog in a home. I will give your pup all the love, patience, and play time they need to be happy and I will look after your beloved pet just like my own!

About: Animals have always been a big part of my life, and I’ve been helping care for other families’ pets since I was 10 years old. When you hire me, you can be confident that I will personally be the one caring for your pet(s). I do not outsource care and truly enjoy spending time with the animals in my care. I look forward to meeting you and giving your pet(s) the attention and care they deserve❤️🐶🐱🐢🐠🐭 Pet care fits naturally into my daily routines. I work as a childcare professional with a flexible rotating schedule. I typically work 3 shifts per week (8am-4pm, 4pm-12am, 12am-8am) and I receive my schedule two weeks in advance, allowing me to plan pet visits and walks easily for clients who book at least a week ahead. However, clients are always welcome to reach out for last-minute bookings- I/s happy to help when my schedule allows it😎🐶 I live in the middle of a quite cul-de-sac neighborhood. It is a safe serene street that would allow me to social your dog with the friendly neighbors and their pets as well. I live in a two story house with a fenced in backyard and a big front lawn that i play with my dogs in- Hopefully I can share the same fun with your pets too! There is very little traffic that comes through and cars always drive very slowly due to the high volume families with children and pets. I live with my wife, 7 year old son, and my two parents who have two dogs of their own. We are all life long pet owners and treat them the same as any person who lives here........who am i kidding, our pets are treated like royalty in this household and they know it!🤣🐶🐱🐰🐭❤️

About: What sets me apart as a pet sitter is my two-year background as a dog training assistant, where I not only helped dogs learn new skills but also provided attentive care. I bring a friendly and hardworking approach, backed by years of experience in customer service. Back at my parents home, I use to share my space with three dogs and four cats, showcasing my deep commitment and love for animals. Your pets are not just in good hands; they're in caring and experienced hands that understand their unique needs, whether it's training puppies, providing senior care, or simply offering a friendly and loving environment. I'm available for pet care from mornings to afternoons during the week. On weekends, I work part-time at my brother's restaurant. I am also very flexible. For pet care, I offer services both in my home and at my client's place. My building provides a convenient pet care center, and animals are warmly welcomed in my apartment. Currently, my roommates have pets, creating a pet-friendly environment. Moreover, the area is close to various dog parks, providing ample opportunities for outdoor activities and playtime.

“My best friend, Roquefort, a 13 year old Great Dane has been suffering with mobility issues, resulting from aging. Albert proved to be a godsend as I have commitments in NYC without someone to care for Roq in my absence. He strictly adhered to all the details of care we covered and even provided more. Albert's general demeanor was perfect as he is a calm person with sensitivities to the needs at hand. Handling Roq was not easy, as he is a large creature requiring assistance to move about. He made my apprehension fade, knowing he would provide devoted attendance to Roq's needs, with much gentle treatment and constant awareness of his needs. I'm very glad that Albert is now a resource.”

About: I am a lifelong dog owner wth personal experience raising puppies, caring for adopted senior dogs, and supporting pets with various health conditions. I have been pet sitting for over a decade and have two years of managerial experience in a professional dog daycare and boarding facility. I am Pet First Aid & CPR Certified and hold two levels of professional pet boarding certification through the Professional Pet Boarding Association. I also have additional experience in animal care and wildlife rehabilitation. Through my professional background, I have experienced caring for a wide variety of breeds and temperaments, managing various health conditions, and safely administering medications. I would love to provide that priceless peace of mind for your fur babies! Animals are the heart of my everyday life. My mornings start with caring for my three dogs and letting my chickens out for some morning free-ranging while I clean their coop. Afterwards, I follow the schedule that I thoughtfully planned the night before, making sure that I have plenty of time between visits and travel so each animal receives the attention and care they deserve. If I don't have an overnight sitting, I come home throughout the day to take my dogs out and give my chickens some late-day time to forage. If I'm unable to make it home in the evening, my partner happily steps in to care for our furry family members. My days are joyfully filled with animals! I take pride in bringing the same patience, compassion, and attentiveness to caring for other people's pets as I do my own. I care for every pet as an individual, taking the time to understand their personality, routine, comfort level, and their specific needs. Through my professional experience, I have cared for an extensive variety of dog breeds, temperaments, ages, and health conditions, including dogs who require extra patience, supervision, or specialized care. The fulfillment I receive from helping an animal feel safe and comfortable is a major reason I chose animal care as my career path. I am attentive to changes in behavior or well-being and take every concern seriously. My professional background has also taught me to remain calm and level-headed during emergencies. I believe communication with owners is just as important as hands-on care, so I make it a priority to keep owners informed and comfortable while their pets are in my care.

FAQs for House Sitting - Speonk

Frequently asked questions about Rover

Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Speonk walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Speonk maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

<b>Tip:</b> Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Speonk choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the , which provides up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.

Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.

During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first .

sitters on Rover set their own , which you can find on their profile under their contact information. Sitters may set a same-day, one-, three-, or seven-day cancellation policy. Cancelling within your sitter’s cancellation policy qualifies you for a full refund.

Same-day cancellations for recurring services, which include walks, drop-ins, and day care, follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for pet boarding and house sitting, if you cancel after 12 pm on the applicable cancellation deadline, you’ll receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for any remaining days.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means you will get a full refund and our support team will work with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
