“Ash took amazing care of our Bella, Max and Smokey. Bella loved her walks and grooming by Ash. Our shy cats even warmed up to Ash. Ash spent a great deal of time with our animals and was a great communicator.”

“Having Julie G house sit and care for my 85 lb. hound Dave was dreamlike. She seemed to accept and appreciate Dave and his coonhound ways seamlessly from the jump. She took copious notes about Da daily needs and expectations at the meet & greet, asked intelligent questions about his routine and I was able to leave town completely confident Dave was in good loving hands. She sent me daily pics and reports while I was away, and left Dave mellower and the house cleaner than it was when I left. A terrific experience from my perspective Can't recommend Julie G strongly enough as a house and hound sitter.”

“We booked Brianna last minute. She made time to come and meet with us and our pup. She took great care of Roscoe and our home. Sent lots of pictures and was good with communication. Recommended!”
“Charlie had another great stay with Jessica. She was attentive to him, letting us know his chronic cough was increasing. She managed it well, professionally and patiently, with permission from us to give an extra dose of one of his medications. She communicated with us throughout the stay-”

“Kristin was a wonderful cat sitter who took great care of my two kitties while I was away. She was conscientious and communicative, sending updates and photos keeping me well informed of everything happening back home. Highly recommended!”

“Eryn was a great sitter for our kitties! She stayed overnight and made our kitties feel very comfortable. She was punctual and communicative. We will for sure be using her again! Thanks Eryn :)”

“Lauren was wonderful and very patient with our dog! He was immediately comfortable with her. She was very flexible on schedule and accommodating our needs during the weekend. We would happily work with Lauren again!”

About: I've had cats and dogs for most of my life. I'm experienced with caring for elder dogs and dogs with disabilities. People are often surprised by how comfortable their pets are with me, even pets who don't normally approach new people. I've studied cat body language to be able to better care for my two cats. My availability is consistently pretty open. I work part time with a flexible schedule, so I'll have ample time for pet sitting and dog walking. Your home is your sanctuary. I'm a quiet, respectful human who will happily care for your pets while respecting your home. I'm happy to play with your pets to keep them engaged while they wait for you to get back.
“Janet was wonderful to work with for house sitting with our giant dog. Great communication and great consideration for house and beasts. We would definitely ask for Janet again.”

“Ace did a fantastic job with our busy puppy! She kept us updated and sent many pictures of our happy dog. The house was left in great condition! We would certainly use Ace again any time and recommend her 100#. Thank you, Ace for a great job. You put our minds at ease.”

“We recently had the pleasure of having Cindy as our pet sitter for our two kitties, and the experience exceeded all expectations. After a disappointing experience with a previous sitter, Cindy restored our confidence entirely. From our initial meet-and-greet, her genuine passion for animals was evident. Throughout our trip, she provided daily photos and detailed updates, which reassured us of our cats' happiness and comfort. Cindy went above and beyond and took great care to learn their routines and needs, and she also kept our apartment in excellent condition. Her exceptional care and dedication make her a standout pet sitter. We wouldn’t hesitate to book her again and whole heartedly recommend her to anyone in need of pet sitting services😸💛”

“Julissa watched our three dogs today and did a fantastic job! All three of our dogs have severe anxiety and separation issues, but as soon as we left the house we received pictures and all three had settled right down and were very comfortable with Julissa. These three are very hard to handle at times and require someone with just the right personality and patience to handle them. We will definitely be contacting her next time we need a sitter.”

“Janessa is amazing and so trustworthy!!! She watched our 2 dogs while we were away and we didn’t have to worry at all. She provided just enough updates and we came home to a clean house! Would highly recommend Janessa”

“Holy moly, Nieves is awesome! From the meet and greet, through our trip, to our return, she provided first class service. She communicates so well, lots of fun updates and pics and cute collages of my pet, and post it notes about her last day before she left. She followed our care document to a T and took the best care of Daisy. I highly recommend and will be booking her again!”

“Molly did a great job watching Maggie and Gracie and was flexible when our flight got delayed due to weather. Would recommend Molly for overnights. She is gentle with dogs and they get to know her they are looking for pets constantly!”

About: Calm, quiet environment with a sitter who craves doggy time. My 12 year old black lab recently lost her fight with cancer. Not ready to bring home a new dog, but would love to care for your precious fur babies while you are away. I offer patience and attention to your canine's needs. I'm a human nurse but also experienced with dogs special needs such as insulin administration. I work Monday-Friday, Home on weekends. No young children. Available for walks, dog Parks (dog park with your approval), or hanging out in the yard secured on a 50 foot lead. Dogs are not left outside unattended. You're welcome to bring your pets favorite toy for us to use during their stay. Will try to keep them on your schedule for easy transition from home to sitter. I speak to animals as of they can respond. Days are better with happy pets! Friday drop-off at 5:30 pm. Sunday pick-up by 8:00pm. I have a large yard and a spacious house. Spend weekend around the house doing small projects, crafting or cleaning. It's a quiet, stress free household with a very flexible schedule. While I miss my own pet I'm looking to offer a love-centered environment similar to children visiting their favorite Aunties house.
“Katherine was absolutely fantastic! She watched our pups for a long weekend and was incredibly attentive, detail-oriented, and communicative the entire time. She kept us updated with plenty of pictures, and it was so nice being able to enjoy our time away without worrying about a thing. She also went above and beyond in ways we never expected. She brought in packages, did laundry, washed the dogs’ bowls, and somehow left our house even better than she found it. Our pups were clearly well cared for and loved, and we came home to happy dogs and a spotless house. We’d absolutely book Katherine again and couldn’t recommend her more.”

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Southampton walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Southampton maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Southampton choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
