“Liza was simply the best. Our dog got sick last minute and Liza saved the day. She was fantastic with my dog Tali who loved her. I would highly recommend Liza to anyone”

“Alyssa was amazing with my pets. She went above and beyond what was asked. Mini (lab mix) is not a dog that warms up quickly to others and Alyssa didn’t give up on her. I do believe they are finally friends. I will be a repeat client and won’t hesitate to use Alyssa again.”

“Jenna is an absolute angel! I could write a book about how magical she is but for now, I'll give you some of the highlights. She is sweet and soft spoken which was a blessing when she stayed in my home to take care of our 2 kitties, Squeaky and Jingles. Squeaky is pretty socialable but Jingles hides when she hears a different voice in the house. She scares very easily and is afraid, so when Jenna started sending me photos and videos, I was in awe! Jingles was hanging out with Jenna, rubbing up against her legs and purring. Jingles came out of hiding and had already decided that Jenna was special. She truly is an animal lover and she took care of their every need and then some! It was amazing how I could relax and not worry about my furbabies in her care. She sent lots of pics and videos twice a day which made me so happy. When we returned, everything was immaculate and everything cat related was spotless. She is so kind and thoughtful....a very rare find! We just love her and my furbabies can't wait to see her again! Thank you again Jenna from the bottom of all of our hearts. We will only have Jenna here in the future! ❤️❤️❤️”

“Hannah was wonderful! She came for a meet and greet to meet our dogs in advance and then sent pictures and took great care of our pups while we were out of town. We have a rescue who is anxious and takes medication, and Hannah handled her needs patiently. We will definitely have Hannah come back!”

“Darcy did an amazing job on our first overnight away from our pups. She followed our instructions to a t and left our home and pups like she found them. Very friendly and great with updates. Look forward to booking her again in the future!”

“Carissa took excellent care of our two cats! Sent daily photos and texts which is so reassuring! She even put down ice melt for us when we got snow. Highly recommend her to take care of your pets!”

“Duncan was super communicative, and checked in with us each day, to let us know how our girl was doing. Our dog was very relaxed by the time we got home, thanks to receiving loads of attention, and the house was immaculate. Highly recommend Duncan for your pet!”

“Nikki is wonderful!! We have an 11 year old chocolate lab, Irish, who has some quirky behaviors - Nikki sat for us for 6 days and she and Irish had a wonderful time! Nikki provided frequent updates on how things were going which put us at ease! We are so glad we have found someone who is respectful and capable to watch Irish and our home while we travel. Thank you Nikki!! We will have you back often!”

“Tori was amazing! We hired her to stay with our sweet Australian Labradoodle, Birdie, while we were away for five days, and we couldn't have been happier with the experience. She kept us updated throughout our trip with messages and photos, which gave us great peace of mind. When we returned, our home was spotless, and Birdie was happy, healthy, and clearly well cared for. We highly recommend Tori to anyone looking for a reliable, caring dog sitter, and we'll absolutely be using her again!”

“Lydia was an absolutely amazing house sitter for our small mixed breed rescue! She provided very attentive and thoughtful care, including managing our pup's anxiety about thunder and firework sounds; our dog was basically at summer camp while we traveled. Lydia also communicated consistently and proactively about our dog and our apartment. Would highly recommend! We are already looking forward to our dogs next staycation with her.”

“Emma was amazing. Finn was very happy when we came home. She sent us many pictures and videos of Finn during the week she was here. We are very pleased and will definitely use her again.”

About: My entire life I have had a plethora of pets, from dogs and cats to birds and rats. I am an animal lover of all shapes, sounds, and sizes and I will strive to make sure that your pet feels the same love and affection that I show towards my own! 🐱🐶 I work a full-time job as a daycare teacher every weekday from 8:30am-5pm, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t have time for your loving pet! I am available any weekday you need me after 5pm for evening walks, some feeding time, and maybe even an extra treat or two! I also hold open availability on weekends for pet sitting, walks, feedings, and anything you may need! When being in my clients home I vow to hold respect and carefulness. It is not my home and I will treat it as such, with that being said I am comfortable doing any task the owner has set for me to perform within the home!
“We were very happy with Rebecca. She showed us pictures and videos of my dogs. She took them for walks and played ball with them. She is very knowledgeable about dogs and gave us training tips We will definitely use Rebecca the next time we go away!”

“Cynthia was an amazing sitter! She had quite the rough weekend personally, but she was still able to give my cat all the love and attention she wanted. Cynthia sent me plenty of pictures of Gracie, which gave me peace of mind while I was away. I would definitely rebook with Cynthia, as she made using Rover a fantastic experience!”
“Sam did an amazing job taking care of our two pups while we were away recently for six days! She was so kind, attentive, and communicated with us the whole time, sending us updates and pictures. We will definitely have her over again in the future. Thank you again Sam!”

About: Hi! I’m Phylicia. I’ve been around animals my whole life—dogs, cats, reptiles, you name it—so taking care of them has always been second nature to me. I also have pets of my own, so I totally understand how important they are to your family. As a teacher, I have a consistent schedule that allows me to be available in the afternoons, evenings, weekends, holidays, and during school vacations. I’m flexible, reliable, and easy to communicate with—qualities that pet parents really value in a sitter. When I’m caring for pets, I treat them like part of the family. I pay close attention to their needs and can quickly recognize if something seems off. Whether it’s sticking to a specific feeding routine, giving meds, or just making sure your pet feels safe and loved, I’m all in.

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - South Dartmouth
Marcia was great at house-sitting my fur-baby Luca. She went above and beyond and put my mind at ease. I was away on family business that was very difficult and I never leave my dog home. He usually is on the plane right with me. So, because I wasn’t able to bring him this time, I was very nervous to leave him. I have no complaints. She always kept me updated with pictures and videos and I must say, Luca had an amazing time. She took him for many walks, the dog park, and he cuddled with her every night. ☺️ When I got home, I think he was more exhausted than me. I will definitely be hiring Marcia whenever we need a sitter. 10/10

Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of August 2026, there are 1,345 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across South Dartmouth. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred South Dartmouth walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in South Dartmouth maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in South Dartmouth choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
