“Patrick and his wife cared for my dog while we were away for a week. They did an amazing job keeping us in the loop with daily updates and pictures. I have never felt so comfortable and at ease while being away from my baby. They were super respectable to any instructions we left as well as our home in general.”

“This was the first time for Alena to take care of Booker and everything went very well. We initially had Alena over for a meet and greet and upon her return a few days later Booker was very happy to see her. Alena even took Booker for a walk which he always enjoys. Alena followed our instructions and communicated when we inquired. We are just visiting Lake Tahoe for the summer and needed a sitter for our 100lb Bernese Mountain dog and Alena did a fantastic job. Looking forward to using her when needed.”

“Tim was an amazing dog sitter! He was perfectly prompt even though his booking right before ours ran long. I could tell our dog Bo took to him right away and I felt 100% comfortable heading off on our long wedding day / night. Tim sent photos of Bo snd let me know what activities they were out enjoying. Bo indeed had an excellent adventure!”

“We booked Lyndsey last minute for a 15 night stay and she was amazing! We were a bit nervous leaving our doggos Addy and Oakley for so long especially as we were traveling to Italy for a wedding. We screened Lindsey on a Sunday thought she was great and met her during the week so she could have a chance to meet the dogs before we left. Lyndsey was so great that we wondered if the dogs liked her more than us! She provided videos/pictures two times per day and there were zero issues. We will definitely use Lyndsey again and have recommended her to other friends/neighbors in the area. Thank you Lyndsey for taking such great care of our dogs! (They miss you btw!)”

“Mariah was fantastic! We have two dogs, one less than a year old and the other is high energy. She took them to the park every day, send lots of pictures and I had peace of mind the whole time. We already booked her again!”

“This was our first time having Katelyn house sit with our Irish Setter Marmie and we are so glad we found her! Katelyn was a pleasure to communicate with and she sent us lots of updates while we were away and we could see how much Marmie loved her. We will definitely be booking with Katelyn for all our future needs!”

“Adam sat for us while we were on a summer trip to Tahoe. He is awesome! He took Bodie for a walk, played with him, and watched him in our Airbnb for two afternoons so that we could go do dog-free activities. Adam got along well with our energetic Kelpie. We HIGHLY recommend him!!”

“Leo did a wonderful job with our two dogs! We had a very quick turn around trip and Leo was able to house sit with such short notice was great. Our dogs seemed very happy upon our arrival. Our home was left extremely clean and as we left it. We will definitely book Leo in the future. Thanks Leo!”

“We have had Dyisha look after our 3 dogs and our house multiple times and she is an incredibly thoughtful, respectful and professional sitter. It makes such a big difference when you can leave for a few weeks and know everything will be so well looked after and our dogs will get all the love, attention and cuddles that they demand (and boy do they demand it!). We are so glad to have found Dyisha!”

“Ally was on time and communicative throughout the booking and pet sitting process. She went over and above to understand our pet’s needs. Moreover, she listened to our specific concerns and was very accommodating . Will definitely use her again!”
“Evan took great care of our 3 year old pointer while we were away for the weekend. He was very thoughtful about letting her get used to him and feel comfortable and made sure she had regular walks. Evan sent us plenty of updates and photos and he was very respectful of our house and left it spotless. We will definitely be booking Evan again and highly recommend him.”

“John was able to hangout at our hotel with our 2 dogs allowing for us to get in a day of snowboarding. The boys had a great time and were well taken care of. John was very easy to communicate with and accommodating with a last minute change in plan.”

“Super sweet, and took such wonderful care of my fur babies. She instantly felt like family, and took care of my babies like her own. I will DEFINITELY be using her again when I come to this area visiting family.”

“Brenna was amazing with River! She checked in on River multiple times a day and gave her all the exercise and cuddles she needed. I would highly recommend her and I will definitely be using her again in the future!”
About: I have lived in Tahoe for 25 years and always had my own dog and watched over my friend's dogs throughout the years. My best friend (Maggie - Retriever) passed away 18 months ago and I watch many of my friend's dogs frequently, including an elderly short hair retriever that is battling pancreatic cancer. I work from home and board my friend's dogs as well as check in and walk dogs when owners need help. I do have a number of recent references. I have worked from home for 25 years. I am very active and walk frequently. I am an early morning riser and monitor how often dogs need a walk or outside break. Pets are a part of my daily routine. My home: I have beds set up and recognize different doggy routines, ie need to go on the porch for sun, or need to go out for a break and walk. I have a section on my porch and in the laundry area for their food and water and a special area where I organize all the food, medication, leaches, doggy bags. I have a place by my couches with a large basket with balls, toys and stuffed doggy animals. I watch a number of my friend's dogs, and each has a unique and special routine and they have all come to trust me a look forward to visiting. I stay a bit at some of my friend's houses if they want me to help with house watch, plants, delivery receipt and other home needs while they are traveling and away on extended trips.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Skyland walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Skyland maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Skyland choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Skyland. On Rover:
- 95% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 98% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 98% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
