We had Ryan stay with our 2 dogs, Jade and Sienna and we are so happy we chose him. He took great care of them! They can be timid around new people and Jade takes a bit to trust, but Ryan got them to warm up and be best buddies right away. They were cuddle buddies from then on. He sent some pics too and we could see they were very comfortable with him. Ryan was always very good with communication too. He's a really great guy. Don't hesitate to book him as we certainly will be booking him again.

We recently had Cari take care of our 2 dogs for a few days and everything went perfect. She spent quality time with them and updated us frequently. She was very respectful towards all of our requests and made sure to keep them safe and happy. She went above and beyond our expectations and took away all of our worries. We will definitely be using her again.

Sara was amazing watching our dog. We were given updates and pictures while we were on our trip to put our minds at ease. Our dog loved her and was well taken care of. She left our house super clean after staying there for a week. It can be hard to put faith and trust into someone to watch your house and pet that you love, but we are so glad we found Sara to take care of our dog. Would highly recommend

Margaret was a wonderful pet sitter to our dog Lily. She stayed at our home to make sure our anxious doggy stayed in her normal routine. Margaret send me pictures of Lily so I could see that she was happy as can be! She also updated me often so I knew exactly how Lily was doing. I appreciate Margaret taking the time to do these things. Lily and I both agree that Margaret was a great pet sitter and would love to have her back again!

About: Growing up, I absolutely loved animals—my family used to joke that I’d own a zoo one day! Whether it was caring for my own pets or helping animals in need, I’ve always felt a deep sense of responsibility and joy in making sure they feel safe and cared for. Over the years, I’ve rescued a baby deer, birds, and multiple dogs, and each experience taught me how to stay calm, patient, and gentle in all kinds of situations. I bring that same energy to pet sitting—being someone an animal can rely on, and someone owners can trust. My natural love for animals, along with my experience as a nursing student, means I’m observant, nurturing, and not afraid of a little extra care—whether that’s for puppies, seniors, or pets with special needs. I currently work part-time on weekdays, so I’m available for pet care after 4:30 PM during the week. Evenings are a perfect time for walks, drop-ins, or spending quality time with pets who need company after their owners leave for work. On weekends, I’m fully available and happy to offer boarding services, since I’ll be home and can give pets my full attention. My schedule allows for a healthy balance, so I can make sure each animal I care for gets the time, consistency, and affection they deserve. What sets me apart is my calm, compassionate approach and my experience as a nursing student—I’m naturally attentive, observant, and gentle, which carries over into how I care for animals. I’ve grown up with pets and currently care for two cats of my own, so I understand the importance of routines, patience, and respecting each animal’s unique personality. I’m also comfortable with both dogs and cats, including pets who may be shy, anxious, or in need of extra attention. I’m especially good with senior pets, and I’m comfortable helping with medication, special feeding routines, or mobility needs. I take pride in providing a calm, safe environment where pets can feel secure—and owners can feel confident.

We had Jessica come stay overnight with our 6 rescue kitties for 3 days/nights. We never had anyone stay in our home or watch them before or used a pet service/rover before so we took a leap of faith after reading her profile and all these reviews! And so glad we did! She was sooo great and such a positive experience! She was so kind to the kitts, our home and us! (Not to mention she is such a cool human!) We got tons of pics daily and kept us in the loop throughout our trip. The relief we got knowing we could go away and get a break and know the kitties had great company and care was huge for us. We look forward to being able to go away in the future and having Jessica with our kitties in our home. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for peace of mind when away.

Jackie sent us adorable pictures, giving us peace of mind that Kiwi was having a great time. She played with, walked, and fed Kiwi, really going the extra mile. I can't recommend Jackie enough for anyone looking for a dog sitter! We definitely plan to reach out to her for our next pet-sitting needs. Thank you, Jackie!!

About: I’ve taken care of dogs of every kind since I was a kid. I grew up on a farm, and we always had animals to care for. Currently, I have 1 dog and 4 cats, we rescued a cat family. I am working part time so I will have plenty of opportunity to care for your dog. Anytime would be a good time for me to board your pet, drop in to house sit or take your dog for a walk. I have a large fenced yard, a large awning area, and a garage set up for shade, along with other dog friendly amenities. I have a doggy pool and dog beds for cozy comfort. Lots of room to run and play as well.

Cari is wonderful!! My dog is much better at home than elsewhere so I was looking for someone trustworthy to come stay at my house while I traveled, and also take care of our guinea pig. My dog seemed so content when I got home! I can tell he was really happy with her. She kept me updated with pictures and was willing to help take out garbage and bring and mail and kept my house spotless for when I got home. Couldn’t recommend her more!

This was our first time using a sitter on Rover (and someone who wasn't family) so we were a little nervous with how our dogs would handle it. We've also never had a stranger watch our house before so we were grateful we could trust Shelby right away. As soon as my dogs met Shelby I could tell they would be fine. She has a calming, quiet presence which was perfect for my nervous pitties. I could tell immediately she was a dog lover. She followed instructions exactly and left everything just as she found it. Our shy kitties even came out while she was here so we knew everyone was in good hands. She even stayed longer when our flight was delayed which provided a lot of peace of mind. I wouldn't hesitate to hire Shelby again!

Daucoda took such great care of my 2 dogs over Christmas! My one dog injured herself and she quickly took her to the vet and ensured she was doing well the remainder of the visit and gave me updates. She has even ran over to my house to let my dog out when she locked herself in a bathroom. She truly cares about the dogs and I’d trust her with my fur babies anytime

FAQs for House Sitting - Scranton

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Scranton on Rover is $53.56 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 572 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Scranton. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Scranton walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Scranton maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Scranton choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Scranton. On Rover:

  • 90% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 98% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 87% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
