“Alyssa and Bryan took such great care of our two girls and they have come back happy and tired both times we’ve sent them! They kept us updated with photos and letting us know what they had been up to. They asked a lot of thoughtful questions about Zoe and Riley and I’m very happy to have found them to take care of my crew. They have a great space and yard for the dogs to play and explore, which was a big draw for me. Will definitely book them again!”

“Our dog Mint came to us as an adult rescue with a tender heart and big separation anxiety. She trembles and cries to ride in a car, uncertain where she’s being taken. On her third visit with Brody, as soon as we turned into his driveway she quieted and started wagging. As I drove away, the rearview mirror showed her dancing around his legs and eagerly running to his front door. Priceless peace of mind!”

About: I have had dogs, cats, birds, and much more animals my entire life. I love taking care of animals and have done it for friends and family for years. I’m very active and love walks and runs! I have 3 animals of my own including 2 dogs and a cat. I have taken care of baby, Senior, adult, healthy, and sick animals. I’m an animal lover and love meeting new people and animals. I have a lot of knowledge with animals for the simple fact that I have been around 100’s my entire life, from saving strays to having pets. I live in Weaverville and would love to help out with taking care of your pet or pets! I work all day but could be flexible. Im a personal trainer, my hours are 4am-2/3pm. I am available with at least a week notice. I can help on M-F and weekends with drop ins and walks. I have a yard as well as 2 friendly playful dogs. I have crates as well as separated floors that are gated off in my home that always help.
About: I grew up with dogs as family pets and have always considered myself a “dog person.” My family had a sheepdog, a black lab, and a Scottish sheepdog, which helped shape my lifelong love for animals. About 30 years ago, I met my wife, a true cat person through and through, and over time I happily transitioned into becoming a devoted cat lover as well. Over the years, my wife and I have shared life with three cats, even taking them on leash walks around the neighborhood—yes, I am proudly that person now. Bella, my 18-year-old super senior cat, just lost her struggle with kidney disease and we miss her dearly. My wife and I spoil our animals all the time. Our cats have always been like children to us and the bonds we build with our animals over the years have been deeply meaningful. I believe animals teach unconditional love, friendship, and have a beautiful way of offering comfort exactly when it’s needed most. In addition to caring for my own pets, I have spent years looking after neighbors’ chickens, rabbits, dogs, cats, hamsters, and even a rat! After 13 years of teaching English at a nearby Early College, I recently retired from education and am excited to begin this new chapter with Rover. I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit. When I am not caring for animals, I run a professional mountain biking guide service in Asheville called Pisgah Mountain Bike Adventures. With more than 40 years of passion for mountain biking, being outdoors and in the mountains is where I feel most at home. I also run an Airbnb in our finished basement and I am currently writing a memoir. I am excited to be part of the Rover team and I look forward to caring for your dog, cat, or other beloved pet with the same level of attentiveness and heart that I have given to everything in my life. I am all in. I am excited to continue growing with Rover and embrace this new direction in my life with enthusiasm and hope, proving it’s never too late to follow a new calling! I am available 7 days a week for dog walks, overnight care, drop in visits, pet transport and housesitting. I am pet first aide and CPR certified and ready to help care for your fur babies anytime. I will board your dog or cat in my home or yours. I am an outdoor enthusiast, so will provide outdoor enrichment, long walks and various activities like playing fetch in the park or snuggles and extra 1 on 1 time for your pet. As a retired teacher, I bring professional level customer service, reliablity and professional pet care for you and your fur babies. I am very flexible with scheduling. Your pet or house is in good hands, leaving you free to go about your day and not worry about your home or fur babies. Thanks for trusting in menfor your pet and houshold needs.

“Kristin was wonderful! We reached out with a last-minute request as our pet sitter for a wedding fell through and she was extremely accommodating. Our dog, Trooper, had never been watched by anyone outside of family before so we were a little nervous but he was in great hands! We would highly recommend!”

“Nate was extremely awesome and amazing. First of all, he’s a really great guy and I felt completely comfortable. Leaving my two beloved dogs with him.. his dog Bilbo is amazing and so adorable. Bill gets along with all dogs.. Nate’s backyard is amazing and perfect and shaded. It has a lot of shade for Hot North Carolina days. He was very attentive to my dogs when I had a concern about my female during the day.. he really knows how to handle an acclimate dogs. I highly recommend him.. I never worried about leaving my dogs with him while I was at a very long all day class for three days. When we go back to Asheville if Nate is available, I will definitely ask him to watch my dogs again..”

“Our pup had an amazing day with Miranda. Harry has not had a lot of experience staying away from home and spent an afternoon in Day Care with Miranda to help him become acclimated for future visits. Miranda very patient in giving Harry time to adjust and become comfortable in the new environment. Miranda has a beautiful safe fenced yard for the pups to enjoy. I am so glad to have found such a comfortable and loving place for our doggo to stay for overnights snd for Day Care socialization.”

About: Hi! I might be new to Rover but not pet sitting! I’m a lifelong animal lover with years of hands on experience caring for dogs of all ages, sizes, and personalities. I currently own two pugs and a soon to be therapy dog named Zoey. I also live with my husband Mike! He is an engineer at Duke Energy & isn’t always home. But I work from home so cuddles are always available for your pup! Beyond caring for my own pets, I’ve volunteered with the Blue Ridge Humane Society and spent several years fostering animals in need, helping them transition into loving forever homes. Through fostering, I’ve gained experience working with shy, energetic, anxious, and special needs pets, always focusing on patience, safety, and positive reinforcement. I understand that leaving your pet with someone else requires trust, and I treat every animal as if they were my own. Whether your pet needs a walk, playtime, cuddles, or simply a calm and caring companion while you’re away, my goal is to make them feel safe, loved, and comfortable. Please reach out for special requests. I can try to accommodate such as picking up your pet or dropping you off at the airport. I live 6 minutes away from AVL. I look forward to meeting you and your furry family members🐾 I currently work from home so if you have an anxious, high energy, sleepy, and separation anxiety I’m your girl! “Ann & Jaren took such great care of my Lottie girl when I was on vacation to NYC! They kept me up to date with lots of pictures; being that this was the first time we were apart for this long, I really appreciated the photos and care she received. “Richard watched our dog who has isolation/separation distress and quickly figured out he will calm when a human gives him some attention. Eventually Pooh settled in and slept and relaxed at Richard’s. It was a relief to know Pooh was in good hands while I ran errands.”

“Gabriel was fantastic: on time, great attitude, super friendly, a real pro. Our pup Jack liked him immediately and he made Jack feel at ease, which is not easy to do because he is nervous when we leave him. So glad Gabe jumped in at the last minute to help us out while we were on a quick trip out of town. He came to our hotel room and stayed for a few hours while we were at a concert.”

“It was great working with autumn, she took care if our shih tzu for 3 weeks. She kept us informed , and was very accommodating for or flight delays and schedule changes. I dog is healthy and happy to see her s back. Thanks for all your help.”

Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of August 2026, there are 237 sitters on Rover offering Doggy Day Care across Old Fort. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Sitters on Rover can offer flexible scheduling, so you can coordinate times that work best for you and your pet—whether that’s early drop-off or later pick-up to match your Old Fort commute.
If your schedule changes, it’s best to let your sitter know through the app as early as possible. Many sitters can adjust pick-up and drop-off times when needed.
Think of doggy day care as your dog’s fun, supervised play date that happens to fit into your workday. Day care through Rover takes place in a real home. This offers a calmer and more personalized environment for your pup.
A typical day can include companionship, one-on-one attention, and same day pick-up and drop-off. Many sitters can also offer structured routines and exercise throughout the day. For recurring, weekly day care, sitters will include photo updates so you can see your dog in their element.
Here are tips for finding the ideal day care fit for your dog:
- For some small dogs: In-home day care can be the perfect fit. Look for sitters whose "can host" section only lists dogs weighing 0–7 kilograms and/or 7–18 kilograms. During your Meet & Greet, ask about play areas based on dog size and energy level.
- For high-energy dogs: The ideal doggy day care can offer scheduled breaks and outdoor spaces or activities. You can also find sitters who host multiple dogs to satisfy your pup’s socializing needs.
- For dogs who prefer human-only companionship: Use the filters "Doesn't own a dog" and "Only accepts one pet at a time" to find the right care.
Play groups can be an option when you book with a day care sitter through Rover. Many sitters do host a small number of dogs at the same time. Smaller dog packs are generally safer, more fun, and ideal for dogs who enjoy playtime but also want to relax throughout the day. When looking for your dog’s pack, check the sitter’s profile to see if they "Accept multiple clients" or have their own dogs. Then during the Meet & Greet, you can see whether your dog is a good fit for their social circle!
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in NC ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, Rover is well-suited for finding sitters who can care for your pet within 24 hours. With 237 sitters in Old Fort, 86% respond to messages in under an hour.
You can message multiple sitters simultaneously to find the fastest available match. If you need care today or tomorrow, you can look for sitters with a "calendar last updated" notice on their profiles.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
