“We used John for the first time recently, he took care of our girl Irie, a high energy Wirehaired Pointing Griffon for five nights. We appreciated John and his calm demeanor after an initial meeting with him and his dog Laverne a week prior to drop off. Irie and John and his Family got along great and Irie arrived home after pick up as if we were only separated for short while. A great indicator of her being well taken care of.”

“Kerri has been the best sitter for our Tiller! With photos everyday while we were gone and easing my nerves along the way that he was having the BEST time with her dogs in the snow and also playing inside, We would definitely use her again!”

“Naomi!!! Amazing!!!Talk about a peace of mind! We had to leave in rather short notice & Naomi was so accommodating!!! Fin & Daisy fell in love right away w/ Naomi & her little Puppy Love Gazebo!! What a cool “kennel-esque” feel, well even more of a She Shed vibe, you know like a place you want to escape to with a good book & a glass of wine … except this one was designed perfectly for pups! Exactly what I was looking for, their own dedicated space full of warmth, the perfect cozy spot to curl up in, yet with plenty of room to roam & explore!! Naomi was incredibly kind, caring, and attentive to our two little dogs. It was clear from the beginning that she genuinely love animals and treated our pups with so much patience, affection, and care. We felt completely comfortable knowing they were in such good hands. We highly recommend Naomi to anyone looking for someone trustworthy and loving to care for their pets!”

“Kelly could not have been more communicative and kind. She took such good care of our pup, and he came home exhausted (which is what we hoped for since he’s so high energy). She kept us up to date on all necessary things during our pups stay, and send videos and pictures too. We will definitely consider booking again in the future!”

“Veronique and her husband were excellent. They honored our same day request for a meet and greet so that we could feel comfortable booking quickly. During my trip they proactively sent pictures and videos daily and gave daily updates on my dog’s comfort level and activities. They were wonderful to partner with and I’d happily leave my dog in their care again because they made me rest easy on my time away. 10/10 would recommend.”

“Bear was very comfortable with Yi and his family, which, puts me at ease. I will definitely recommend Yi AND I have every intention on using him again when my family head out of town.”

“Great feedback and an understanding and accommodating of my dog's quirks. Traveling is made so much easier when you can feel that your dog is well taken care of in your absence. That is what I experience here.”

“Catherine was great! From our initial meeting through picking up Johan. Her home, backyard and own dogs are so welcoming. She was in contact with me the whole time and flexible with pick up and drop off. We will definitely use her again!”

“Thank you so much for watching kylo this weekend! We appreciate how you always make him feel right at home and provide multiple updates throughout the stay on how he’s doing. He loves your family and is always eager to run up to your house.”

About: I have owned and taken care of various breeds of dogs for over four decades. I currently have a 4 year old Golden Retriever named Duke. My goal is to provide your pet with the same care that I give my own. I only take one client at a time so I can provide you and your pet the best possible experience. I currently work part time from home so have plenty of time to interact with your pet. I have a husband and 2 children (12 and 14) that also love animals. I have a fenced in yard and a very friendly dog that will keep your dog company. I am able to crate as long as you provide the crate.
“Kyla is thus far the best per sitter I've ever had & I've had many because I travel a lot. My fur baby has special needs & Kyla took impeccable care of her! I returned after two weeks away, to find a happy & content pup! Thanks Kyla! You rock!!”
“Jamie was a great host. She sent us pictures several times during the day and was always responsive when we asked how our baby was. We would highly recommend her and plan on using her all the time.”

“We have a 80 lbs, 12+ year old lab, with arthritis in hind legs which makes it difficult for him to sit and get up. This time when our regular pet sitter was not available, we left Simba with Isabella with an almost skeptical mind as she did not have many reviews and seemed new. But at the end of the stay, we’re delighted to say that she took the best care of him, and made sure he got his walks and medicine on time.. she sent us very frequent updates including pictures and videos. She did everything to make sure that we were not worried about simba even for a minute while he was with her and were able to enjoy our time peacefully! Highly recommended!!”

“This is my first time leaving my dog with someone 6 hours away from home and I was nervous. It was last minute when I realized we had to bring the dog with us (last minute as in 8 hours before we had to leave). She responded to my request at 3am in the morning, thats great! I messaged many and didnt get many responses. There was no Hassel, she was very flexible and when we left then came back to the house to drop her off, my dog ran up to her as if she knew her forever. She did an amazing job and I'm so thankful she came by!! She is definitely recommended!”

“I couldn’t have asked for a better sitter! She treated Bailey like her own and made me feel completely at ease while I was away. Jeannemarie sent pictures and updates every day, which I really appreciated and looked forward to. It was clear my dog was happy, comfortable, and very well cared for. I would absolutely trust her with my dog again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a caring, reliable sitter! ❤️🐾”

“Emma was fantastic. This was my first experience leaving my 4 month old golden. My golden is young and full of energy, the sitter needs to be special and Emma certainly was. I highly recommend Emma and will ask her again in the future.”

“Jillian was a great sitter for Romeo! He was happy and snoozy when I picked him up. Jillian was super responsive with updates. I had a few travel snafus on the way and Jillian was very understanding and flexible.”

“Gen was very accommodating by taking Winston and gave me updates the entire time. I knew the whole time Winston was safe, and was well taken care of. I will be booking w/ Gen again the next time I go away!”

Dog parents share their Rover experiences - Nissequogue
This was Nico’s second visit with John, and I am 100% confident in his ability to care for dogs. As he says in his profile, he truly is a dog whisperer. He is calm, knowledgeable, compassionate, and clearly understands dogs and their individual personalities. If you’re considering trusting John with your pets, you can feel confident they will be in excellent hands and receive thoughtful, attentive care.

We had such a great experience! Kristen watched Sadie and Tinky for a few nights and took wonderful care of both of them. It gave us such peace of mind knowing they were happy, comfortable, and well cared for while we were away. We would absolutely recommend her and will definitely use her again!

My dogs Bella and Bailey were in amazing hands with Rachel, Henrik and their children. They treated my dogs like they were their own from the moment they entered their home. My dogs are 14 years old and have some special needs and Rachel was up to the task! She even cooked rice for Bailey when he had an upset stomach! I would definitely recommend them to anyone who needs to have their dogs taken care of. My dogs got spoiled and would love to visit again in the future! Thanks for everything :)

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
Every sitter on Rover has their own routine. Depending on the arrangements you agree on before the stay, a sitter can follow your dog’s regular feeding schedule, provide a comfortable place to sleep, offer companionship, and support their usual exercise and play needs.
Depending on the sitter, their home environment, and your dog’s needs, daily exercise may include walks, outdoor play, indoor enrichment activities, or supervised play with compatible dogs. These activities are not automatically included with every booking, so ask the sitter what a typical day looks like.
During the Meet & Greet, discuss your dog’s usual exercise and play routine, whether they can safely interact with other dogs, and any activities or restrictions the sitter should follow. You can also ask the sitter to send photo and message updates during the stay so you can see how your dog is spending their time.
Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their Nissequogue home-away-from-home, packing:
- Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
- Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
- Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your Nissequogue.
Tip: You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.
You and your Nissequogue sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in NY ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
