“Alison was lovely. We requested her last minute but she somehow made it work to take care of our little baby rocky. She was on time, super sweet and very interested in learning about rocky. She send us pictures and told us updates of our baby almost every half an hour which was so sweet. Would definitely recommend booking with her :)”

“Shanette stayed at our house for one week with our Maltese. Took excellent care of our dog and sent updates, pictures, and videos. We felt so at ease and comfortable with our dog in her care. Worth the money for peace of mind.”

About: I have taken care of my neighborhood dogs for the past few years. I have also been setting up occurring dog play dates around my neighborhood and dog walks. I am currently working remotely and am pretty flexible when it comes to walking dogs or stopping by for a drop-in visit. I am available Mondays to Thursdays and occasionally over the weekends as well. I regularly walk my dog Bandi; and create a safe and inclusive community by setting up dog play dates with the dogs in my neighborhood.
“Ms Krista was very professional and kind. During the time she had my keys to my house she was 1000% professional. Taking photos and videos of her visit and updateing every single morning with no problem not one. She was genuine and I truely appreciate her kindness and honesty. She is a perfect candidate for future pet sittings or anything. I recommend her strongly.”

“Robert took great care of Jeffrey! He is a reliable, caring, and professional dog sitter. We booked him from out of town for a wedding and he kept in touch to confirm, showed up on time and became immediate friends with Jeffrey. He was great with communication - sending us many pictures and videos. His passion for dogs is evident, I could tell that my dog not only received necessary care but also enjoyed the company and companionship Robert provided.”

“⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Paige is the first sitter we hire through this app. And the experience couldn’t have been easier. She came to the house to meet Toby a few days before the actual sitting and it was great, in general he is afraid of other people and has Separation Anxiety, but with her he was all happy and playful. On the sitting day she arrived on time, and took the time to go over the care details for Toby and he continued his regular routine. Additionally, she spent time playing with him throughout the day. Toby really liked spending time with her and it was like we had never left the house. She is a great sitter and we will be hiring her again.”

“Monique was excellent! She was able to adhere to specific instructions we needed for a reactive dog plus another dog that is relatively well behaved and our cat in our apartment. Monique was very friendly with them and able to accommodate coming over to meet them on two separate occasions before the trip began to make sure that we had all the instructions clearly understood. She was very nice during our trip while we were away and sent us photos and videos to document the time they spent together and she made sure that we felt comfortable the entire time that we were away.”

“Beth was truly amazing!!! Me and my now husband got married last weekend and we were stressing about our fur babies since everyone who would watch him were going to be away with us. I reached out to Beth and from the minute we started speaking I knew they would be in good hands. My cat is friendly and easy to take care of but my dog Capone is a large scared anxious boy. He gets depressed when we aren’t around. Beth sent me pictures and updates the whole weekend. She was patient with him and made him feel comfortable. He definitely warmed up to her and now has a new friend. When we got back and she came by he was so excited to see her! I can’t thank her enough and will definitely be using her again to watch my fur babies!”

About: As a dog owner myself, I love long walks and hang outs with my 4 legged friends. At home I have 2 dogs of my own, Bruno a 3 year old LabPit mix, who is friendly, loving, and very active. He loves to play fetch and run but also cuddle on the sofa when resting at home. Lola is a 10 year old Maltese/Shih tzu mix who loves her naps and shorter walks. Our daily activities include long walks or runs around the neighborhood; twice a day and a short midday walk. Although Lola doesn’t always keep up with her brother, she enjoys accompanying us in our hikes and so she comes along in her backpack! At home we also I also have 2 parakeets who bring us lots of joy. Aside from my personal pets, I have also fostered 11 dogs through an organization here in Staten Island. I took in dogs ranging of ages from 3 puppies of 5 weeks to a 6 year old pup. Some with medical need such as taking prescribed medication, special diets or receiving medicated baths. Here your furry friend will have company from my two 4 legged friends, she/he will play and receive lots of physical activity, but if they are more couch potatoes, that works too! Their needs will be catered. They will be part of our pack until you are ready to return home! During weekdays, pets will receive morning, afternoon and night walks. During days when I am at work, they get their longer walks during the afternoon and nights since I work 8-3 outside of the home. In the afternoon I make sure to give them lots of attention and weather permitting, take them to the yard to play fetch or let them run around a bit. During weekends, they receive longer walks/ park visits earlier in the day. Morning walks turn into park visits or small hikes, then midday walks depending on when we get home and night walks. Although my yard is not fenced, I have long 30 ft leashes long give your dog opportunity to run as they pleased. At my home, they will have friends to play with, feel love and care for. I love communicating with fur parents on how their pets are doing and easing any worry they may have about leaving their pet behind.

“Diana was great! She came through in the clutch after we had a last minute sitter cancellation. She spent quality time with Dinho multiple times a day, called right away the one time Dinho was acting up, and was easy to coordinate with. Would definitely book her again!”

About: Growing up with dogs, I learned early on that wagging tails and puppy cuddles are the best part of life! With years of pet care experience, I’m all about keeping dogs happy, healthy, and spoiled with love. Currently working part time and doing online schooling! I’m available Monday/Tuesday/Friday from 7am-12pm Wednesday/Friday from 7am-8pm Saturday/Sunday from 8am-8pm Let me know what time works best for you :) I have two dogs in my home and keeping them happy and healthy is a main priority. Waking up to make sure they get their walks in because we all need our steps!! And then walking them at the end of the day so they are sleepy at nighttime :) They are basically my children.
“After having several bad experiences with pet sitters (on and off of Rover), we knew immediately upon meeting Jenna that she was going to be fantastic. She was prompt and very communicative. I know our GSD had the best time with her. 10/10. We will absolutely be using Jenna again in the future!”

“Tammy is absolutely amazing! From the moment I met her at the meet and greet, I knew I had found a great dog sitter. She is the kindest, most reliable, caring and experienced dog sitter I've ever met. I trust her 1000% with my fur baby. She sends updates with photos and videos. She made the separation for the day worry free. She is the best!”

“Stephanie was amazing!! She watched our 3 dogs while my husband and I went overseas for our wedding. We were gone for over a week, and we got multiple pictures and updates daily. She is extremely communicative and responsible. We were nervous to leave our babies that long but Stephanie put our minds at ease so we could relax while we were away. She left our house even cleaner than before we left. I would definitely recommend Stephanie and plan on booking her again! 10/10 stars! Thank you Stephanie!!”

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Mid Island walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Mid Island maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Mid Island choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
