I was so nervous about leaving my dog with a stranger for 3 days, but Claudia went above and beyond to make me feel at ease. She was kind enough to meet my dog beforehand to make sure it was a good fit—and my dog loved her instantly. She even rolled over for belly rubs, which she never does for anyone new! While I was away, Claudia sent me tons of photos and videos, which made me feel so connected. I had left very specific door-training instructions (my dog must sit before the door is opened, and the hallway must be cleared before the release command). Claudia followed these perfectly, which was really important to me for safety and consistency. When I came home, my house was spotless—honestly cleaner than when I left. Even my Brita was filled to the top! And the sweetest surprise of all: it was my dog’s birthday while I was away, and Claudia threw her a mini birthday party. She sent me photos of my dog in rainbow birthday hats, a princess sash, with balloons and a new toy. It meant the world to me to see someone else celebrate my dog with so much love. She also shared the cutest little updates, like how my dog would wake up around 2 or 3 a.m., give her a kiss, then go back to bed. It’s the small details like that that showed me she truly cared and kept our routine. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. My dog adored her, and I’ve already recommended Claudia to my coworkers. I’ll definitely be hiring her again—not just for overnight stays but for occasional walks too, so they can keep their sweet bond going.

Holly took good care of our senior dog Bear. Communicated daily on how he was doing. She genuinely cares and is very knowledgeable about dogs. Bear even gave her kisses (and it takes him a while to warm up to anyone).

Anna was quick to respond and available for a meet and greet before our scheduled trip! She was so sweet. Our dog Winnie took to her immediately and our super shy puppy even approached curiously when he usually runs away and hides. I instantly knew our pups would be in good hands while we were away! Anna was great! 10/10 recommend her!

I had a house/dog sitter lined up but the had a family emergency and bailed on 6 days before I was leaving town. After searching, begging, and panicking, I got a response for Shea who was on board with the work and timeframe! He was very communicative, sending me messages regularly and responding quickly. He kept in the loop about my pets (dog and hamsters). And, one of the most important factors for me, he was kind and enjoyed being with the animals. He has experience with dogs so knows how to work with them and my dog behaved well and listened to him. When we got back my dog was a little confused - this was the first time we had ever left her with another person so we knew that she would be and Shea hung out a few minutes and we talked about some of the many many things he does while we acclimated a bit. My dog has an abuse history but with Shea she wasn't jumpy at all, she was comfortable and felt safe - that alone was a huge sign to me - just seeing how she reacted after a week with him and she was happy, comfortable, and calm. Oh and he pointed out an owie she got while we were gone so we could get it taken care of. Thanks Shea! I highly recommend him to others looking for someone!

Kathryn was amazing with our senior Golden over the Holiday break. She even took the initiative to research and purchase some doggie socks and hot spot medicine for a hot spot on her foot we have been trying to get rid of. Our neighbor even ran into Kathryn on a walk and couldn’t stop talking about how wonderful she was and wanted her number for her pups. I’m so thankful I found someone I trust and feel so comfortable with in my home with my Daisy. Will definitely book her again for our next trip!

About: I took care of 'Beau', a very large white American Retriever. He is the sweetest! I was temporary mom to Elsie, a huuuuuge Great Dane lady. You can see images of me and Elsie in my profile. I took care of a home and Chester (Tabby Male Kitty), Luna (Black Female Kitty) and their dog sister SnoBella. I watched these 3 for several months while their mama was recovering from illness. You can see images of SnoBella, Chester, Luna and I walking. The kitties loved to walk with SnoBella and me. I am also a plant mom. My own home — which is cared for by my daughter when I'm gone — contains 3 indoor trees and over 10 live plants, as well as a Gardyn indoor garden. I consider my plants also sort of my babies and will take care of yours as well. I work remotely, which allows me to spend much of the day with the pets in my care. Because I'm home throughout the day, I can provide companionship, maintain their normal routine, and keep a close eye on their well-being. Many pets enjoy relaxing nearby while I work, whether that's a cat curled up in my lap or a dog snoozing by my desk. If your pet is allowed outside I sometimes enjoy sitting on the patio and letting them roam the yard while I work. I keep pets on their normal routine as much as possible. My day includes feeding, fresh water, litter box cleaning or potty breaks, playtime, walks, and plenty of affection. Since I work remotely, pets often keep me company throughout the day, whether that's a cat in my lap or a dog at my feet. If approved by the pet parent, I'm also happy to let pets sleep with me so they feel safe and comfortable while you're away.

Lety was amazing! She took care of Bloom for 10 days, and she did a phenomenal job. We got daily updates with pictures and videos, which was great and so reassuring that Bloom was having a blast! Bloom was also able to play with Lety’s dog, Penelope, which made the videos extra cute. 10/10 recommend Lety, and we will definitely be booking her again the next time we need a sitter. Thanks Lety for taking such great care of our Bloom!

About: I am a reliable and dedicated dog sitter with six years of experience. I genuinely enjoy what I do, and I understand that each dog has their own personality, needs, and routines. I take time to make sure each dog in my care feels safe, comfortable, and cared for while you are away. I enjoy being surrounded by dogs and learning new things along the way, I strive to create a positive environment where pets can relax and feel secure as if they were at home. I know how important trust and communication are when leaving a pet with a sitter. That’s why I focus on being dependable, responsible, and respectful of both pets and their homes. I provide updates and photos so owners can feel reassured that their dogs are happy, safe, and receiving the best care possible. Through my years of experience, I have cared for dogs of many different breeds, sizes, and temperaments. I am comfortable working with energetic dogs that require frequent exercise as well as calmer or older dogs that need a slower pace and more patience. My responsibilities have included feeding schedules, administering basic medications if needed, maintaining secure spaces for puppies and seniors, ensuring clean water and bedding, daily walks, monitored playtime, leash training, kennel training, connecting with anxious or aggressive dogs, etc. I have also gained experience understanding dog body language and behavioral cues. This has helped me recognize when a dog may be stressed, excited, tired, or in need of attention. Being attentive to these signals allows me to respond appropriately and provide care that fits each dog’s personality and needs. My goal is to make sure every pet feels secure and relaxed while in my care. I understand that trusting someone with your pet is a big decision, which is why I prioritize reliability, communication, and respect. I make sure to keep owners updated with messages and photos so they know their dog is being well cared for. Building trust with both pets and their owners is very important to me. Overall, my experience caring for animals has taught me patience, responsibility, and attention to detail. I genuinely enjoy spending time with the dogs I care for, and I strive to provide a safe, attentive, and positive environment where every dog feels comfortable and loved. Caring for dogs is a natural part of my daily routine. I structure my schedule so I have plenty of time to give dogs the attention, exercise, and care they deserve. Because of this, I’m able to stay consistent with walks, feeding schedules, playtime, and constant supervision. Throughout the week, I intentionally set aside time for dog care activities such as walks, outdoor breaks, enrichment, and quality interaction. I enjoy being active and spending time outside, so taking dogs on walks or letting them explore safely is something that fits easily into my lifestyle. This allows me to provide pets with both physical activity and mental stimulation. In addition to basic care, I also make time to simply spend quality time with the pets I watch. Whether it’s playing, giving attention, or keeping them company, I believe dogs benefit from having someone present who is patient and engaged with them. I try to make sure every dog feels comfortable and cared for during their stay. I am used to maintaining structured care routines, which is important for helping dogs stay relaxed while their owners are away. I follow feeding schedules carefully, make sure pets always have fresh water, and ensure they get regular bathroom breaks and exercise. Sticking to their normal routine helps dogs feel safe and reduces unnecessary stress. When caring for pets in my home or a client’s home, my main goal is to keep their routine as consistent and comfortable as possible. I carefully follow the owner’s instructions for feeding schedules, walks, medications if needed, and any specific care preferences. Maintaining a familiar routine helps pets feel safe and reduces stress while their owners are away. In terms of boarding in my home, I create a calm and safe environment where dogs have space to relax, play, and receive plenty of attention. I make sure they get regular potty breaks, daily walks, and time for exercise and mental stimulation. I also monitor them closely to ensure they are comfortable and adjusting well to the new environment. When house sitting in a client’s home, I focus on keeping the pet’s care exactly how they are used to it. I provide feeding, walks, playtime, and companionship while also keeping the home clean with respect to the owner’s space. Staying in the pet’s familiar environment often helps them feel more relaxed while their owner is away. I pay close attention to each pet’s behavior and body language to make sure they are comfortable and happy. If a dog is more energetic, I make sure they get enough activity. If they are older or more relaxed, I adjust the care to be calm and patient. Communication is very important to me while caring for pets. I provide regular updates and photos so owners know their pets are safe and happy. My goal is to give pets reliable and attentive care.

FAQs for House Sitting - La Jolla Amago

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of July 2026, there are 2,660 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across La Jolla Amago. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred La Jolla Amago walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in La Jolla Amago maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in La Jolla Amago choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in La Jolla Amago. On Rover:

  • 96% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 98% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
