Amanda was great with our kitties while we were away on vacation! She sent lots of updates with photos/videos and was very respectful of our space. Amanda went above and beyond during meal times as our kitties need to be separated and can be picky eaters. I would highly recommend Amanda for any of your pet care needs!

Elliot and Jackson are truly amazing dog sitters. They took the time to get to know our two mini schnauzers (one being a nervous rescue) prior to the visit. Communication was excellent during the pet sitting and I felt confident that my dogs were being well cared for. They even got some kisses from my rescue boy, which doesn’t happen often. I would highly recommend them.

We had Kelly come dog sit in January for a week. She was amazing! Very comforting for us that my dog, Sophie, would be cared for in my home. Sophie is normally an anxious dog. While Kelly was with her, Sophie was completely fine. I really enjoyed the photos of Sophie that Kelly sent me during her stay. Kelly stayed overnight for Sophie, she was very respectful of my home and left it the way she found it. I would highly recommend Kelly for your pet needs!!!!

About: I have been a vet receptionist for the past year and I have a furry friend that has been with me for 13 long healthy years. I’ve taken care of dogs for friends and family since I was 15 and overall I can say it has been a great experience. I work two part time jobs and I’m looking to fill in the gaps in between my schedule and also work some hours on the weekend. I’m offering walks and drop ins in between the mornings and evenings. I love communicating with owners on how to take care of their pets the more I know the better care and experience your pet will have. I like sending updates and cute pictures of them just a heads up! I do require a quick meet and greet to discuss any behaviors or preferences I should be on the lookout for. Also I like to ensure it’s a great match if you have any questions or need special accommodations don’t hesitate to ask I’m open to some requests depending on my availability. Hope to meet you soon!

Maria was absolutely wonderful with our dog, Milli! She was incredibly attentive, patient, and tuned into Milli’s needs from the start. You could tell she genuinely cares about the dogs she walks—she took the time to make Milli comfortable, gave her plenty of exercise, and sent thoughtful updates after each walk. Milli adored her and would get so excited every time Maria arrived! It’s such a relief to know our pup was in such capable and caring hands. Highly recommend Maria to anyone looking for a reliable and loving dog walker!

I highly recommend Donna for any pet sitting needs. She was an amazing sitter and took wonderful care of our three dogs, guinea pig, and fish. Our dogs have become very attached to having someone home since my husband started working from home, so it was a huge relief to know they were happy and calm in Donna's care. Her calm demeanor and warm personality made our dogs very comfortable, and we appreciated the daily photos and messages she sent to keep us updated. We also returned to an immaculate house. Donna’s care truly made our vacation much better. Please do not hesitate to book her for your pet sitting needs.

Melanie and Anthony are absolute gems as pet sitters and house guests. They are so kind and caring- both towards animals and towards us humans - taking great care of all of us during their stay. They sent lovely photos of our pets being adored and living their best lives in our absence and they took great care to be respectful about my needs as a person with Celiac disease, even leaving extra GF staples for me and cleaning the house! They are truly great humans and we feel so lucky to have found them. Booking them again ASAP!!

She was incredibly professional, attentive, and clearly has a genuine love for animals. She took such amazing care of my dog and kept me updated the entire time with thoughtful messages and photos, which gave me so much peace of mind. It meant everything knowing Winnie was in such good hands. I will absolutely be using her services again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable, caring pet sitter!

About: I’ve always had a love for animals and enjoy making pets feel safe, comfortable, and cared for while their owners are away. I understand that every dog has a different personality and routine, so I take the time to follow each owner’s instructions closely. Whether your pet needs walks, playtime, feeding, cuddles, or just a calm companion, I’ll make sure they feel loved and cared for. I work from home, so pet care fits very naturally into my daily routine. Since I’m home often, your pet won’t be left alone for long periods of time, and I can help keep them on their normal schedule so they feel safe, comfortable, and cared for. For house sitting, I’m also able to bring my work equipment with me, which allows me to stay with your pet while still working remotely and giving them consistent care and companionship. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I make it a priority to keep their routine and environment as normal and comfortable as possible. I carefully follow all instructions for feeding, walks, potty breaks, medications if needed, crate routines, and any house rules. I always make sure doors, gates, leashes, and fenced areas are secure, and I pay close attention during walks and playtime to keep pets safe. I’m respectful of every client’s home and will treat both your pet and your space with care. I’m also happy to send updates and photos so you feel comfortable while you’re away.

If you know me you know my dogs are my children. My husband and I have never had anyone in our home to watch our dogs before. We don't treat our dogs like 'dogs', they are part of our family so to us this was like having a babysitter for our children. Well, Rosie, was amazing! She came twice to visit and get to know my babies. During our weekend away she texted photos and sent updates. Gabe broke his favorite toy and she even went out and bought him a new one. Rosie truly loves animals and you can see her heart is truly in this 'job'. She will care for your pets as if they were her own. I whole heartily recommend Rosie to sit for your pets as she will for mine in the future.

Katlyn and her husband were wonderful with our two dogs! They watched our dogs at our house for 12 days while we were on vacation and took care of them like their own. One of my dogs was on medication, and they did a great job administering it. We came back to our house being neat and tidy. Would highly recommend!

About: I have taken care of bearded dragons, cats, and dogs since 2018 personally and professionally. I grew up with cats and dogs. I am in the process of becoming a vet assistant. This is my full-time job so I will have plenty of time and energy to dedicate to your furry love. When I am with your pet(s) their needs come first! I am familiar with positive reinforcement training principles, crate training, potty training, and have had to administer medications to a variety of my own pets in the past.

About: I’ve taken care of a variety of dogs for 10 years. I have lots of experience with large/giant dogs, senior dogs, and puppies. Previous dog owners have been satisfied with my dog walking, house sitting, bathing, and medicine administration. I love them like they are my own. Hours available for dog walking are dependent upon the day. I am available everyday for dog sitting and house watching. My work schedule is Thursday-Saturday and Tuesday. I am available every night for overnight dog sitting. I love to bring my work to dog sit, this way after your pup is tired out from playing or walking, we can relax together and they get some cuddles. I can easily crate your dog if needed. I live in a community with lots of paths to walk, as well as a beach to play at if allowed. When I let dogs out into the yard I make sure to keep a close eye on them (we don’t have any escape artists!).

About: Dogs have been a massive part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I honestly can’t imagine life without them! I’m the proud go-to pup sitter for my friends and family whenever they need a hand. Amy was the best, we are so lucky to have found her! She took care of our large dog Luna who is very sweet but also doesn't know her own strength sometimes. Amy is great at handling all sizes of dogs. She kept us informed every day and took good care of our house too. We (including Luna) highly recommend!

Very simply- Nick and Justin were awesome! Not only did they respond very clear to our initial last minute request, but they were so nice to our three dogs. Communicated every single walk that they were taken on and anytime that they were fed or let outside. If there were any concerns that they had, they made sure to connect with us before doing anything I felt like I was watching my dogs and I’m very appreciative. We will be sure to be using Nick and Justin exclusively for all of our trips in the future. And I would recommend them to you for your visit in the future as well. Thank you both.

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Islip Terrace on Rover is $41.73 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 8,036 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Islip Terrace. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Islip Terrace walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Islip Terrace maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Islip Terrace choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Islip Terrace. On Rover:

  • 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 93% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 98% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
