Riya was great- we definitely recommend her for anyone who wants to feel comfortable leaving their animals when they have to leave. She was great at keeping us updated, asking questions, and paying really close attention to the health and happiness of both our cat and dog! We will for sure be coming back to ask her to watch them in the future because she is very dependable and trustworthy.

Ebony did a great job watching my 11 mo. old puppy over the weekend. She stayed and left the house spotless. She also communicated very well when my puppy had an issue with her harness (puppy was nervous about someone new) and was open about what was going on. Puppy was in good hands and I could relax on vacation. I would highly recommend using Ebony for an overnight stay!

About: Yes it's been awhile but I'm back! I take care of pets like they're my children because they're the same in my eyes. Sweet & cuddly needing to be nurtured with compassion & great care. I've owned plus taken care of several pets including my dog for 10+ Years, my sister dog from pup to senior, and my beautiful feral cat of 4 years whom passed away. Throughout the years I've volunteered assisting with cats waiting to be adopted through cleaning, grooming, feeding, and companionship. My heart desire since childhood has always pulled towards owning a pet sanctuary to foster and take care of stray animals. That is my goal within the next 5 years ! A fun fact about me is I'm a master reiki practitioner which is also known as an energy healer with practices of shamanism. This info is for anyone who resonates with this and would like care to their pet in that capacity. With given permission and consent ! Right now in this summer season my schedule is open and flexible to become acquainted with the fur babies of earth until I return to Puerto Rico I have open and flexible availability for the remainder of summer season providing an arrange of services. Looking forward to meeting you and your fur family I care for pets as if they were mine and follow given routines or schedules if that is what's requested or in simply go with the flow providing my care, attention, and love. Just as people have boundaries I understand pets do as well and will respect that by observing body language.

I worried about my dog’s separation anxiety, but didn’t need to. Amanda instantly was one of the pack. She cared for the house, kept it clean, and brought in the mail. Perfect 5 star sitter.

Kristen did a fantastic job with our two dogs while we were out of town for 5 days! She was very responsive to communication the entire time. We didn’t return to any accidents or messes we had to clean up which for us is a blessing as one of our dogs tends to have some potty issues when we are gone for an extended period. Usually our dogs are super excited to see us when we return- this time I think they were disappointed to see us and not to see Kristen!! Would definitely rebook ☺️

About: As a previous dog & cat owner, I know how stressful it can be to leave your pets with strangers. I will make your furry pets as comfortable as possible. (Disclaimer - I'm Mike. I'm in the picture getting smooched. I can't update the profile name. Phyllis and I are still friends!) Your fur babies will be in great hands with me and get lots of attention. I live in the city, so walks are definitely on the agenda, weather permitting. I'm retired so I will be home with them 99% of the time. I just enjoy pets. I've had them (cats, dogs, lizards, turtles and fish) all my life but now I find myself without. So Rover let's me scratch that itch without the full time responsibility. My backyard has a fenced in area if necessary, but there is also a dog park right around the corner. I am a pet lover and will give your dogs (and/or cats) lots of pets, cuddles, and kisses! I can work with high energy or relaxed depending on the animals needs! *Phyllis and I did Rover together a few years ago. We have since split but we're great friends and I watch her small poodle Scooter every time she needs a sitter. I wanted to use the same profile with the testimonials/reviews. 🙂

Maia was incredible. 🤯🎉🎊 She kept us updated and took care of the house. We had some people come to the house to move furniture and repair some things and Maia remained flexible through the entirety of that endeavor. The dogs clearly loved her and we’d be absolutely delighted to utilize their services again. 🦮🐕‍🦺🐕 She did some awesome, creative activities with the dogs too!!! 🎨 What a wonderful surprise to come home to the crafts she made with them! Strongly recommend her services 😊

About: I love animals but most of dogs because they keep me in a good mood. I make sure that dogs eat , get the right exercise, and got to the bathroom on time. I also own a dog of my own back my hometown. And we have a great relationship! I know what she wants just by her body language and her speaking to me lol kind of cute. Dogs are like humans. I love to play with dogs. Dogs give me a since of joy and calmness because I know when they are taken care of they trust me. I make sure that dogs retrieve the right nutrients that they will need as requested by the dogs owner. Dogs are my best friends. Safe!

About: I have grown up with and taken care of animals roughly my whole life! Having two cats and two dogs makes caring for animals a daily routine for me. I am also great with caring for kittens and puppies as I have raised all four of my animals since they were little. I have also cared for my own dog’s litter! I’m currently a full time student at the University of Akron & have a ton of time during the summer and holiday seasons to care for any type of animal as needed. I have crate training experience and will be able to crate your pet if needed. I am able to easily adapt to any other security measures as needed.

FAQs for House Sitting - Independence

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Independence on Rover is $111 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 1,410 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Independence. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Independence walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Independence maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Independence choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Independence. On Rover:

  • 97% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
