“Sarah did an incredible job watching my dog while I was away. She was so flexible in accommodating my flight cancellations. She was able to stay for 2 extra days while I tried to make it back home. I'm not sure what I would have done if she hadn't agreed to stay! She truly cared for my dog while I was gone. I will 100% use Sarah in the future!”

There is also a dog park in the neighborhood for your dog to play with other dogs if you want him/her dog to socialize. Exercising a dog isn’t always important! I have experience training dogs. I have been assisting in training future guide dogs for the past 3 years. I would love to take in your cute pups even if they are not potty trained; I have experience and am willing to help potty train or any other forms of training you would like your pup to continue while you are away. I am also willing to administer any medications your dog needs during his/her stay. I am here to make your life easier and give your dog the best experience possible! I will play, walk, cuddle, and love all fur babies! Dogs of any age (as long as they have some vaccinations), size, and gender are welcome in here!

“Courtney did a wonderful job watching our 2 fur babies for a week. She kept us updated throughout the week to let us know that they were doing well. It is a relief to know your pets are being well taken care of so you can enjoy your trip. She left the house in pristine condition when we came home and were able to rest and snuggle with the dogs when we returned.”

About: I have 17 years of animal care experience from growing up on a farm to volunteering at many animal shelters. Experience with walking and feeding cats and dogs, training, medication administration, bathing, and play time. I am an animal lover and have owned animals most of my life. I am comfortable with all types of animals and am very mindful of their individual personalities. I am currently a student who is home full time and able to provide lots of attention to animals. I am free most of the day to take pets to the park or on walks depending on their needs. I have a large yard for animals to run around safety and live in a gated community. I am open to crating or letting pets free in my home depending on the owner's preference. My husband and I have no kids or other pets so they will get our undivided attention.
“Christina is an amazing and thoughtful sitter. She took care of our two dogs and our house while we were out of the country for over a week. She kept us updated and gave us so much peace of mind while we were away. Our dogs had a great time, too!”

I am a graduate student, so my weekday availability is limited, but my weekends have plenty of time free to spend with your pets! Let me know if you have any questions or special requests for your animals. I am a graduate student, so my weekdays are slightly limited. Wednesdays I have more time to check in. My weekends are a lot more free for check in visits! I currently do not offer pet care in my own home. I offer check in visits, walks, and house sitting. With regular clients, I may consider offering this service!

“Rebecca is a wonderful sitter; reliable, professional, and attentive. Our pups clearly enjoyed their time with her, and we really appreciated how she kept us updated throughout.”

About: Animals have always been a huge part of my life, and caring for them is truly my passion. I’ve been working with animals since I was a little girl, and one of my very first jobs was at a local pet shop called Aquarium Connection. Over the years, I’ve gained experience with all kinds of animals — from dogs and cats to reptiles, birds, and exotic pets. I personally own several reptiles myself, so I’m very comfortable caring for reptiles and birds in addition to traditional pets. I’m not afraid to get messy, handle shy or nervous animals, or care for pets with disabilities or medical needs. I’m experienced with giving medications and making sure animals feel safe, comfortable, and cared for while their owners are away. Animals have always shown me unconditional love and comfort throughout my life, and being able to give that same care back to them means everything to me. I treat every pet like family and always strive to provide patient, loving, and dependable care. Pet care is a night weekends and holiday job. There are no off days ! I’m currently available 24 seven 365. I am looking to make my passion for animals into a full-time job Caring for my animals and others, is my upmost priority. They receive 100% of my time and attention. I have a completely fence and backyard with plenty of room to run. Inside they have a chance to meet three kitties, and have all the toys in the world. If they’re feeling adventurous, my bearded dragon would probably like to meet them too.

About: I’m a second-year veterinary student at the University of Florida with years of hands-on experience caring for dogs of all ages, sizes, and temperaments. I have dog sat numerous times for friends, neighbors, and families, including extended stays lasting several weeks. Through veterinary school and personal experience, I’m comfortable monitoring pets closely, administering basic medications if needed, and providing attentive, compassionate care. I understand how important consistency, communication, and trust are when leaving your pet with someone else, and I strive to make every pet feel safe, comfortable, and loved while you’re away. I’m currently on summer break from veterinary school, so I have a very flexible schedule and am available throughout the week at all hours of the day to meet your pet’s needs. If you’re looking for a long-term sitter, I will also make sure to prioritize time for your pup during the school year (August–May). When caring for pets in my clients’ homes, I focus on maintaining their normal routine so they feel safe, comfortable, and stress-free while their owners are away. Whether your dog enjoys long walks, playtime, and staying active or prefers a calmer, more relaxed environment, I’m happy to provide the care and attention that best fits their personality and needs. As a veterinary student with experience pet sitting for extended periods of time, I’m very attentive to animals’ behavior, routines, and overall well-being. I carefully follow all owner instructions regarding feeding, exercise, medications, and household routines to ensure your pet is cared for exactly the way they are at home. My goal is always to make pets feel loved, comfortable, and well cared for while giving owners peace of mind. I also enjoy sending regular photo updates so owners can feel confident their pets are safe and happy while they’re away.
“We appreciate Randee's excellent care of our three cats! She was fantastic and we will definitely invite her back. Not only were our cats very relaxed when we got home, it was obvious that Randee took excellent care of our home as well. Randee's communication while we were away certainly gave us a sense of peace knowing that our fur babies were in her good hands. She is a wonderful person, very caring and professional. I recommend her without hesitation!!”

I will also stay in contact with client through out the stay with their pet I am a senior at Gainesville high and have a part-time key holder position at palmetto moon I don't work everyday so free after school. I take care of Clint's pets as asked for, following all feeding and waking instructions. As well as calling Clint in the cases of an emergency
“Teagan was absolutely amazing with our pets! She took such great care of our dogs, Beppo and Haruki, and even went above and beyond by helping with our cats and managing everyone’s medications with such care and attention to detail. When we got back, our dogs were not only well taken care of: Beppo & Haruki were genuinely happy and in great health when we came back home. Teagan is reliable, compassionate, and clearly loves what she does. We would welcome her back into our home anytime and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy and dedicated pet sitter!”

About: Currently working at Newberry Animal Hospital, I want the chance to continue to help out the community to a less medical environment. Our furry buddies should be able to have love and care even while you’re away! I am currently working at Newberry Animals Hospital on Tuesday , Thursday, Fridays, and some Saturdays. That leaves Mondays, Wednesdays and some evenings open to hang with your little buddies! I do not plan on bringing your pets into my home. I prefer for them to be in their most comfortable space, that way, we avoid any unneeded stressors.
“Cami was so great with our puppy! Our dog has separation anxiety but did great with Cami and her dogs! She sent regular updates and made sure we knew she was doing good. Will definitely be using her again! I could tell from the pictures that our pup had an absolute blast there.”
“Riley stayed with my dogs for boarding at my place. I came home to two happy pups. Riley was easy to communicate with, left the space tidy, and kept me updated. Would definitely book again!”

“Kaitlyn was absolutely amazing! She took such great care of our pets and went above and beyond to make sure they were happy, safe, and loved while we were away. Her communication was great, and it truly gave us peace of mind knowing they were in such good hands. We couldn’t have asked for a better pet sitter and would 100% book her again. Highly recommend!”

About: Hi, thanks for considering hiring me! I have experience being the primary caretaker of a maltese-poodle since childhood--including in old age and end-of-life care-- as well as walking and doing drop-ins for family and friends' dogs of all sizes. I have limited experience with cats but am very happy and willing to learn. I love animals and spending time being active or just sitting with them. I am currently a college student studying from home who is able to take their work wherever! I do not currently have another job so my availability is very flexible. I will do drop-ins or come stay at your house for walks, feedings, litter-changes, etc, as well as general house-sitting as needed (ie watering plants, getting mail). And of course providing the animals lots of attention!
The median cost per night for house sitting in Gainesville is $45
Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Gainesville
Haley always takes great care of my cat, Loa. She is very communicative and sends lots of photos. I know Loa is in good hands and well taken care of with Haley. She even asked if she could cut Loa’s toenails, which I really appreciated! She takes care of my lizards too and is comfortable with exotic pets. Your pets will be in good hands with Haley.

Samaria is the best!! My dog is very hesitant and scared when it comes to trusting and meeting new people. Samaria made sure to take her time to earn Archie’s trust. With the amount of time and patients each day Archie became really comfortable with her and I will forever be thankful to her for that. She gave daily check ins, updates, and pictures of Archie that I am so appreciative of. I will definitely book her again for a pet sitting appointment. She’s amazing!

Xanadu was incredible. The pups love her and so do we. We came home to the most happy, well-looked after puppies. The place was spotless when we got home. Xanadu was so responsive when we checked in and offered regular feedback and photos. We are so grateful for Xanadu for the best (first) home sitting! We will absolutely book Xanadu again! And again!

We cannot speak highly enough of Mackenzie! We’ve never had anyone other than family watch our dogs, but for our wedding, we had to go with Rover since all of our family was traveling with us. This included our three dogs plus my dad’s dog (all 60+ lbs). We were nervous because they can be a handful, but Mackenzie was truly amazing with them. They loved her. Even our skittish dog was already asking for belly rubs from her on the first day. She handled all meds without issue. They got so much play time and attention that they’re going to be sad when they go back to real life with us and we’re at work not playing with them! She sent frequent updates and pictures, letting us know any concerns she had with the dogs. Our home was left clean and everything in its place. Our dogs, as she put it (and we laughed and agreed wholeheartedly), are cute but very crazy. If she could handle the four of them without issue, she can definitely handle your dogs. If we ever need to rover again, I would book her in an instant. Especially for a high stakes moment like being gone for a wedding, we needed this to go well, and couldn’t have asked for better!

I honestly can’t say enough good things about Randee. I was in a really stressful situation when my original sitter canceled in the middle of a stay while I was out of town, and she stepped in immediately without hesitation. Her quick response and willingness to help on such short notice truly saved me. From the start, her communication was amazing. She kept me updated with frequent texts and plenty of pictures, which gave me so much peace of mind being away. I could tell my dogs were happy and well cared for the entire time. She stayed completely on top of their routine—making sure they got their walks, plenty of outside time, and all the attention they needed. It was clear she genuinely cared about their well-being, not just checking off tasks. Overall, she was absolutely incredible. Reliable, attentive, and compassionate—everything you could hope for in a sitter, especially in an emergency situation. I’m beyond grateful for her and the effort she put in, and I would trust her again in a heartbeat.

Angelina did a great job of taking care of my 2 Boston Terriers. She walked them and took them on an occasional car ride. She also took great care with my house. It may have been cleaner than when I left it. I would definitely recommend her for your pit sitting needs.

We used Liana for house sitting for our 3 pets while we were away for 4 nights. She did so great with them, we were extremely pleased! We could tell the house and pets were well taken care of. She sent pictures and detailed updates daily. She did a great job walking our younger, more high energy dog. We would definitely use her services again! It's obvious she loves caring for pets.

You can tell Kat has a real love for animals! She was punctual, reliable, and so loving with our fur babies. It was our first time leaving them in the hands of someone other than family and she made the process easy! She sent us photos, kept us updated, and was very responsive. She went above and beyond for our pets and we will definitely be working with her again in the future :)

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Gainesville on Rover is $38.85 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 462 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Gainesville. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Gainesville walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Gainesville maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Gainesville choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
