“This was a great first experience using Rover. It was easy to set up a meet and greet and then the actual boarding all went great. Allison was the best communicator sending updates and pictures of our dog in her care. I will confidently be able to use this service going forward”

“Bingo had a great time! Margarita sent us pictures throughout his stay, which made my kids so happy. Our baby Bingo was clearly well loved and well taken care of. We’re so grateful for the care and updates and would absolutely recommend Margarita to anyone looking for someone to watch their fur baby! ❤️”

“I’m looking forward to booking again [next year when i stay in town at Great Wolf Lodge] with Debra & Benjamin. Little Zoey is just so sweet and friendly - even on the first face to face zoom meet & greet she wagged her tail - to meeting in-person upon drop off. Immediately, my dogs appeared to feel safe and cozy upon meeting. Their home is set up to accommodate free range indoor/outdoor exploring in a safe fenced back yard/“backwoods” environment. Most importantly - at and post-pickup - my babies seemed calm, content and relaxed. Thank goodness I was able to find Debra & Benjamin to provide quality care! Def recommend”

“I’m so happy with the service Mary provided while watching my dog, Daisy. She made me feel so at ease with the amount of pictures and text messages she provided me to ensure Daisy was doing well. Each picture Daisy looked happy! Mary has a personality that is calm, gentle, warming and everything I would want for someone who is watching my dog. She went above and beyond! I definitely recommend her!!!!”

“Alessandra was so great! I was super nervous using this app for the first time, but feel truly lucky and blessed having found Alessandra! Upon meeting her, I was super comfortable and I felt as though I was leaving my dog in the care of a good friend or trusted family member. She was very attentive and communicative, I appreciated all the updates and photos while I was away. I have nothing but good things to say, and absolutely recommend her! She will def be my go-to dog sitter! She’s the best!”

About: I have grown up with pets all my life, and currently take care of 3 of my own! I love my two cats and dog more than anything, and will take care of yours like my own. I am always open to being flexible when it comes to taking care of your pets! My schedule is always ready and open for any animal. When it comes to taking care of my pets, I make sure that they get the proper amount of love and time to play everyday. My attention is always on them, and they are my top priority.
“Terra was friendly and has a nice family. And my pet was happy when we picked up. Overall very happy with Terra, she even did few FaceTime calls so we can check in on our pet. One request we have is if she can respond to messages quickly, but otherwise no complaints with the service.”
“Jennifer was great with our girl and sent plenty of updates and got her out and about even with the holiday weekend. Her last minute availability and convenient location came in clutch! Thank you again Jennifer!”

About: I've always loved animals as a kid especially cats since I have 2 of my own. I enjoy going out on walks and runs for really energetic animals and also enjoy making sure their needs are always met. I always enjoy having an animal by my side. I'm available anytime on a Mon/Wed/Fri schedule as I attend school Tue/Thu. I'm also sometimes available on weekends I would just need to know in advance. I have two cats and they are very shy around other animals they are more on the reserved side. I have a medium sized patio and live next to a park which is animal friendly. When I'm at a client's house I would usually do as I'm instructed to and look out for animals' social cues to have a clue on how they are feeling.
“As a first‑time dog‑sitting client, I was nervous and unsure what to expect. Kyle exceeded every hope I had. He was reassuring from the start, communicated clearly, and made me feel genuinely comfortable. Beyond caring for my dog, he showed real empathy and took the time to listen when I had concerns. His updates were consistent, and the extra photos were such a sweet touch. I couldn’t have asked for a better first experience.”

About: Animals have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember! From dogs to small animals like rabbits and guinea pigs, I’ve grown up understanding that every pet has their own personality, needs, and special place in their family’s heart. I’m also a master’s-level mental health therapist, so patience, compassion, attentiveness, and building trust are a big part of who I am, both personally and professionally. I’m currently a proud dog mom to Squirrel, my sweet senior rescue. Caring for her has given me an even deeper appreciation for the importance of consistency, patience, and understanding an animal’s individual needs, especially as they get older. I know how stressful it can feel to leave your pet in someone else’s care. My goal is to make that experience as comfortable and reassuring as possible for both you and your furry family member. Whether your pet is energetic and playful, shy and cautious, or simply enjoys a slower pace, I believe in meeting animals where they are and providing the attention, affection, and respect they deserve. Your pet isn’t just another booking to me. They’re family, and I’ll treat them with the same kindness and consideration I would want for my own. One of the perks of my schedule is that I work from home as a telehealth therapist, which allows me flexibility throughout the week! I have Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays completely free from client sessions, giving me plenty of dedicated time for walks, drop-in visits, playtime, and quality one-on-one attention. During the rest of the week, I also have breaks between appointments that allow me to accommodate additional pet care needs, depending on availability. Because I work remotely, I may also be able to provide extended companionship and a consistent presence for pets who are comfortable relaxing while I work. I understand that every pet has their own routine, and I do my best to provide reliable, attentive care that fits their individual needs. My goal is to make sure your furry family member feels loved, comfortable, and cared for while you’re away! Your pet’s safety, comfort, and well-being are always my top priorities. As both a pet parent and a mental health professional, I understand the importance of trust, consistency, and creating a calm, supportive environment. When caring for pets in their own homes, I respect their established routines and follow their family’s instructions closely. This includes feeding schedules, exercise preferences, medication instructions when applicable, and any special considerations related to age, temperament, or health. I take time to understand each animal’s personality, boundaries, and comfort level rather than rushing interactions or expecting every pet to respond the same way. I also believe communication is essential. I’m happy to provide regular updates and photos so you can feel connected to your pet while you’re away. My goal is simple: to provide dependable, thoughtful care that helps your pet feel safe and gives you peace of mind.
“We had a great experience!! Morgan sent us updates and we knew Leo was doing completely well and having the best time, playing fetch, going on walks, or taking naps. Thanks, Morgan!”

About: I've always had dogs and crate trained my dogs. I know how to train basic commands but nothing really beyond that. I do love playing with dogs and also relaxing with them as well. I do work full time but I do work from home most of the week. So my schedule is pretty flexible for the most part. I have a fenced yard, and 4 friendly dogs. We do have 2 cats but they stay outside as they don't like our dogs. I make sure the the pet I babysit is comfortable and listen to instructions on the owners requests.
“Hands down best experience with our pup. Our kids were extremely nervous about leaving him behind on our trip, but Jose and his family took the best care of him and also sent pictures and videos to update how our dog was doing. Jose also went above and beyond by giving him a bath so our dog was fresh and looking clean as we picked him up. We’ll definitely be repeat customers and HIGHLY recommend anyone who needs there dog to be in great hands. Thanks again!!”

“I am so happy with my experience. They did an excellent job. Bridget is amazing and made me feel so secure and took such good care of my fur babies. I will definitely be using her again and again.”

“Tyler has been excellent at communicating and watching over everything. I am very excited and definitely plan to rebook them. Highly recommend his efforts; he's good with dogs all around. Followed every instruction that was given. Open and ask if I needed anything else afterwards and even left all a treat to take home I highly recommend him.”

Dog parents share their Rover experiences - Bret Harte
Jennifer took great care of my dog. It was last minute booking, I was so glad to find someone like Jennifer to look after Chloe. She is a very careful person and asked me more details about Chloe before I dropped her off, so that she could prepare well and take good care of Chloe. She sent me pictures to let me worry free. I'm very grateful to her.

Alyssa and her family were absolutely the best. My little Shih Tzu gets kind of shy and nervous but he warmed up so fast. I was sent update photos and I could tell my dog felt at home. If I’m being honest, he seemed not as excited when I showed up. Definitely recommend and will use this family again. Thank you isn’t enough!

We had a great experience with Taylor and Brian taking care of our dog, Kellie. Taylor’s background in a veterinary clinic made us feel very confident in her care. She clearly loves dogs and has a lot of experience, especially with fostering. Caring for animals is a natural calling for her. Kellie was happy and well taken care of. We will definitely be using them again for Kellie in the future!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
Every sitter on Rover has their own routine. Depending on the arrangements you agree on before the stay, a sitter can follow your dog’s regular feeding schedule, provide a comfortable place to sleep, offer companionship, and support their usual exercise and play needs.
Depending on the sitter, their home environment, and your dog’s needs, daily exercise may include walks, outdoor play, indoor enrichment activities, or supervised play with compatible dogs. These activities are not automatically included with every booking, so ask the sitter what a typical day looks like.
During the Meet & Greet, discuss your dog’s usual exercise and play routine, whether they can safely interact with other dogs, and any activities or restrictions the sitter should follow. You can also ask the sitter to send photo and message updates during the stay so you can see how your dog is spending their time.
Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their Bret Harte home-away-from-home, we recommend packing:
- Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
- Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
- Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your Bret Harte.
Tip: You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.
You and your Bret Harte sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee, which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page.
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in CA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
