About: I have been a in-home pet sitter for the past six years for a medium size dog who had special needs as a puppy. I also am a pet photographer and have done pet portraits and holiday cards! I recently lost my beloved dog Zoey, who I had for over 12 years. I love dogs deeply, and welcome them into my home. I am available on a part time basis with more availability during the summer months. Weekends are ideal but I can be available after 5pm on weekdays or early morning. I live in a pet friendly apartment building, in a dog friendly neighborhood! My apartment is in the smaller side but dog and cat safe!

About: I have had cats and dogs my whole life, so I have a lot of experience caring for them and walking them. I understand how a dog communicates it's needs, like when they need to go outside for the bathroom, or when they need to get their energy out with some playtime. I can handle any sized dog on a leash (my dogs at home are 50-80 pounds!) I can take care of cats as well, and am comfortable cleaning out a litter box. I know how to approach both dogs and cats, and get them to warm up and be comfortable with me. I also have experience babysitting and house sitting. Animals make me so happy so I would love to take care of yours!! I work part-time and have a very flexible schedule, so I'm always welcome and happy to add a dog or cat sitting request into my routine. I take great care of my pets, ensure the dogs have daily walks and the cats always have a clean litter box. And of course, cuddles all the time :)

About: I’ve had dogs ever since I was 10 and love taking care of them. I’ve also taken friends dogs while they were on vacation whenever needed. I work midday so I can walk your dog before 11am or most likely after 7 pm. Even if you just need me to go feed your cats! I do have a fenced in yard but love taking my dog Nala to different dog parks in the area. She gets along with all dogs and loves to play.

About: I have a degree in veterinary science and I’m currently on the road to attend veterinary school! I have lots of knowledge on pet behavior and how to properly care for them. I’ve worked as a veterinary technician for the past few years. I’ve worked in general practice, emergency animal hospitals, and even a pet hotel. I’ve cared for hundreds of patients, provided preventative care, treatments, medications, cleaned their kennels, walked dogs, and played with them. I also helped my senior dog turn around her health around by helping her lose 8 lbs! I’ve been working with animals for the past few years, I truly love what I do. I’m a veterinary technician so I’m no stranger to daily pet care for cats & dogs. In my home, I take care of both of my cats. I feed them, clean their litter boxes, clip their nails, and clean their ears.

Juan is an amazing person. I am grateful to have him interact with my baby (Rick). He is really good with animals, very understanding, kind, responsible, friendly, and easy going. From the first time he interacted with my dog, I knew all will be well, because my dog was calm. Rick (my dog) is looking forward to future visit. I would highly recommend Juan.

Jane was so amazing, caring and meticulous with caring for our 2 dogs (one of which is a senior dog). She sent us detailed updates, photos and videos which giving us peace of mind when we were away on vacation. She left our house cleaner than the way we left it. I am so happy we found a great caretaker for our pups after many failed attempts. Jane was our saving grace and we look forward to using her again! If you would like to hear more about our sit I'm happy to be a referral, she was that good!

About: I've got the " Mommy can I have A puppy?""experience. My daughter got a puppy when she was 5 years old for her birthday Guess who took care of it? Me. Then I took her trick or treating at 8 years old and instead of of coming back with candy, we came back home with a pit bull puppy cause this guy had a rope around his neck trying to get rid of it. Guess who took care of it? Me. Then 10 years ago she wanted another puppy. She ended up getting 2 , a sister and brother. She promised she would take care of of them and be responsible for them. Guess who took care of of them? Me. She's 30 years old now and nothing has changed. I'm still the sole care giver. Need I say more?

About: I've been pet sitting privately for over eight years and added energy healing (BioEnergetic Synchronization Technique) to my repertoire for animals and people in 2023. I'd be happy to direct you to my personal site for testimonials or share some of the 50+ five-star reviews I've amassed on other platforms. Animals take to me very quickly, and I absolutely adore them! I have many regulars who reach out to me before anyone else because they feel complete peace of mind when I am with their pets. I know how important that is and love to provide that with an abundance of photos and updates. BEST energy work helps heal physical issues, as well as emotional challenges, like separation anxiety. Please note that while I love and do B.E.S.T. with all animals, at this time I am generally only accepting live-in pet sitting requests with cats. I do much of my work remotely, and even my most food-forward feline regulars allow me to focus fully when I'm holding a session. Most of them even curl up right next to me. Due to the nature of my remote energy work, I am only accepting cat sits at this time. They tend to love my work as much as my play! I stick to whatever schedule and routines the animals are already used to, unless otherwise requested. I am very sensitive to animals' needs and catch on very quickly if they need anything.

About: I worked at a veterinary clinic for over 5 years. I love all animals no matter the age, gender or size. I look forward to playing and spending time with your pet and giving them all the love I have to offer, I would prefer all dogs to be vaccinated, have proper identification and preferably be neutered. Any unusual requests require a fee which can range anywhere from ten to fifteen dollars. I will walk, play, and feed your pet however you will have to supply the bed, food, toys , and any other items required to occupy and/or keep your pet entertained, happy and comfortable. I look forward to meeting your special one and welcoming them into the family. There is special discounts for bonded or multiples. I offer specials for clients that are recommended or new. Please contact me for more info. Why I love dog sitting: It is a great way to bond with a creature that has endless love and compassion. My experience administering medication: No medication of any kind. I work from home full time so I have plenty of time to devote to your pet. I have the freedom to walk away and give your pet attention and any other necessities they may need. I follow all requests and am able to separate pets if necessary. I have a crate available if needed. I watch your pet with a keen eye and able to offer comfort and love. If multiple pets are in house, I will monitor at all times.

About: I’ve had numerous cats, dogs, birds and a rabbit! I love animals and the unconditional love they give in return. I would love to have the opportunity to take care of your babies while you are gone and give you the piece of mind you are looking for. I’m retired and have plenty of time to play and check on your fur baby! I adore animals and will love yours as much as I love my own! Currently I am offering services in your home only as I have a high energy puppy in mine. If your dog also is high energy and wants/craves stimulation with a like minded pup, I’d be more than happy to see how they get along! My home has a fenced in yard as well as a doggie door, and my dogs go on numerous walks per day. Depending on the where and when, I might consider staying the night at your home with your babies so they are comfortable in their own environment.

My two big fiesty dogs are very reactive to other dogs, but Beverly handled them with no problems, taking them for a long walk, and even encountering other dogs, but keeping the situation under control. Such a relief for me! I like to walk them, but am always worried to ask others to do that. I am very glad to find someone who can do so and keep them in check. They are all bark and no bite, but other dogs and people do not know that, so it is good to know that Beverly understands how to keep everyone safe! She is upfront, honest, and calm. You want her on your team.

Alex was amazing, He took care of our 9 year old dog for 10 days, stayed at our place for a few days and then he took peanut to his place when he thought she would be comfortable. We found her happy and healthy when we got back home. During the whole time Alex was sending pics and videos and letting us know how the day went, that gave us peace of mind and we were able to enjoy our time away. I highly recommend him and we’ll use his services again, that’s for sure!!

FAQs for House Sitting - Barnum Island

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of August 2026, there are 17,903 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Barnum Island. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Barnum Island walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Barnum Island maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Barnum Island choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Barnum Island. On Rover:

  • 88% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 93% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
