“Maria & Matthew are the absolute best! We’ve used them twice and each time it gets better! Our dog loves his mini vaca at their house with his doggie friends. Their communication is incredible! Maria and Matthew are our go to sitters!”

“Cassandra & Tradd have watched my sweet girl a couple times now and they have been amazing every time! My pup loves it over there and I get updates every day. Will continue to book with this lovely family. 🥰”
“Coco loved Beverly from the moment she saw her! I was surprised to see how she ran up to her, tail wagging and excited, just as she does when she sees my mom. Beverly was sweet and warm to Coco and even showed genuine concern for her allergies, giving tips to help. I will definitely return to Beverly.”

“We had a great experience working with Melanie! She was attentive, caring, and kept us updated throughout our pet (Kash’s) stay. We really appreciated the regular pictures and messages showing how he was doing, it gave us so much peace of mind. Kash was well cared for, and we wouldn’t hesitate to book with her again. Highly recommend!”

“Katja watch our labradoodle for 5 days and she kept me updated with pictures and text daily. I can tell he had an amazing time because he has been super pouty since he’s been home and he was sad to leave. I would 100% recommend her to anyone that is looking for a pet sitter in the Virginia Beach area!”

“I highly recommend Maryann! From her initial response to my request for pet sitting, to her multiple updates every day (with pictures), MaryAnn conveyed a professional and loving option for our little Puggle. We will definitely use her sitting services again!”

“Kristin did a great job watching our dog, Lucky for 3 days. Kristin sent pictures of Lucky walking and getting a belly rub, which he loved. I would highly recommend Kristin to watch your dog (or other pet). Very responsible. Thanks Kristin”

“I recently adopted a blind, deaf senior dog. I was very anxious about leaving him, since he was just starting to learn his way around, but I had a pre-planned trip out of town. Michelle had boarded my previous blind dog and I knew she provided outstanding care, so I asked her if she would be willing to board this one. She said yes, which helped relieve me a little, and reassured me that she would keep him safe. Little did I expect the level of service she provided! She sent me pictures of him daily, introduced him to other senior pets, and carried him around in a special harness while she did chores. I was able to relax and enjoy my trip without worrying! She is the only one I trust with my pets! You won't be sorry...she's fabulous!”
“Michelle is absolutely amazing! She took such great care of our sweet girl Jewel ! We received lots of great pictures and communication! Jewel definitely was living her best life and had a great doggy vacay while we were also on vacation ! I would recommend her to everyone !”

“Cameron was great with my pup, Bailey. I got frequent photos and updates on her during her 4 day stay with Cameron. He was super communicative and responsive. I truly appreciated his willingness to watch her even while she was recovering from her spay. Thank you and I know Bailey is excited for another stay in the future!”

“Leah was very friendly and took good care of my Daisy girl. She also took my booking request really last minute, lifesaver! My pooch came back relaxed and happy, and apparently didnt have any problems with the super friendly resident lab.”

“Tammy was absolutely wonderful with Macie! She took such great care of her during the 5 days she watched her, and it was clear from the start how much she genuinely loves dogs. Tammy kept me updated every day, which gave me so much peace of mind while I was away. Macie was happy and well cared for when I came back, and I couldn’t have asked for a better sitter. I highly recommend Tammy to anyone looking for someone trustworthy, caring, and attentive to watch their dog!”

“I was really nervous to leave my dog but she made me feel extremely comfortable. Luna got lots a play and seemed to really enjoy her stay. Stephanie even provided videos of my sweet girl during her stay.”

“Absolutely fantastic! John and Zena took excellent care of Fergus. John is a real animal lover and I felt very comfortable to leave Fergus with him. I loved the daily check-ins with news on how Fergus was bonding with John 😊. Fergus had an amazing time and we will definitely be relying on John and Zena when we go out of town again!”

“Rémy had so much fun at their house and enjoyed the company of their fur babies. He got spoiled! I felt comfortable leaving him. She provided updates and pictures. I will definitely ask her if she is willing to watch Remy in the future!”

Dog parents share their Rover experiences - Albemarle Acres
This was our first time booking with Aimee, and everything from booking to pickup went great. Communication was timely, and we received an update and pictures everyday. Both our babies made new friends, and got to have the staycation that fit their personalities. Bella got to relax and chill while our wild child Biscuit had a friend to match his energy. They even got a report card which I must say was graded pretty accurately. Thank you Aimee and family!

Mackenzie and Brendan were wonderful with Chilli! From the beginning, Mackenzie was easy to communicate with and made the whole process of leaving him in their care feel very comfortable. I received plenty of updates and pictures while I was away, and it was clear Chilli had settled right in. He loved having their backyard to explore, going on walks, and getting lots of attention. They followed his feeding routine, gave him his medication, and made sure he was comfortable and well cared for. Chilli is an older dog who really enjoys companionship, so it was important to me that he felt included and had people around him. He especially took a liking to Brendan. He has such a gentle nature that Chilli seemed immediately drawn to him, and since Brendan works from home, Chilli also had plenty of company throughout the day. Their daughter was very sweet and gentle with him as well. Chilli fit right in with the rest of the household. There were zero issues with their cats, and he and their dog Jackson became buddies. I also really appreciated that Mackenzie and Brendan let him make himself at home and be part of their personal space rather than simply having him there as a dog they were watching. Chilli came home happy and clearly well cared for. Mackenzie and Brendan provided exactly the kind of home environment I was hoping to find for him, and I would absolutely feel comfortable and confident leaving Chilli with them again!

After a few not so great rover experiences I decided to try again. So happy I did, my pups had a great time with Vozzie and her pups! She sent updates everyday which helped us as our one dog has never stayed with anyone other than family members. They both came back happy and tired!

Heba and her sons were great. They took good care of my babies (King and Coco). She sent me pictures and updates while we were gone. She also had to give Coco daily medication and King ear drops, which she gladly did. We will be using her again in the future when we travel. Highly recommended!!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
Every sitter on Rover has their own routine. Depending on the arrangements you agree on before the stay, a sitter can follow your dog’s regular feeding schedule, provide a comfortable place to sleep, offer companionship, and support their usual exercise and play needs.
Depending on the sitter, their home environment, and your dog’s needs, daily exercise may include walks, outdoor play, indoor enrichment activities, or supervised play with compatible dogs. These activities are not automatically included with every booking, so ask the sitter what a typical day looks like.
During the Meet & Greet, discuss your dog’s usual exercise and play routine, whether they can safely interact with other dogs, and any activities or restrictions the sitter should follow. You can also ask the sitter to send photo and message updates during the stay so you can see how your dog is spending their time.
Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their Albemarle Acres home-away-from-home, packing:
- Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
- Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
- Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your Albemarle Acres.
<b>Tip:</b> You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.
You and your Albemarle Acres sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the , which provides up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
