“Isaac is my son. We have never been without a pet in our home. Isaac grew up with a South American Yellòw Front Parrot. This bird calls Isaac by name at dinner time and gets very excited when he comes home. The first thing Isaac does when he comes in is pick up our dog Patch and give him a big hug, then he takes rhe bird on his shoulder and will often sing with it or to it. The bird (Oida) is very affectionate with Isaac and will put her head down and ask for a scratch. Patch our dog totally trusts Isaac and loves the liveliness Isaac brings when he comes home. Whether dogs or cats or our bird we have always had at least one pet in the house if not several and Isaac has always been nothing but kind and caring about them. He enjoys there antics and loves the humorous things they do.”

“Just thinking of leaving my 14 year old Ando made me very worried and uncomfortable. In the past, pre-covid, we left him with a boarding/ daycare but that was not an option with a delicate 14 year old. Then we found Tam! Although we have never tried a house sitting, we felt that it was the best option for an arthritic picky old weim who loves attention all to himself. Tam is calm, confident and very thoughtful. And we could tell that she has taken care of many senior dogs. Even our standoffish Ando surprisingly liked her right away at our meet and greet! During our absence, Tam gave us updates with photos. Also she paid attention to details of Ando's health... those little things only a parent can notice.. she was able to notice small differences in his energy level and behaviour and informed us for further discussion and possible course of action. As Ando just had an UTI and has a few other health issues, these personalized updates were very helpful for me. We would definitely ask Tam to care for Ando again. We feel that she really cared for Ando. We thank Tam so much for the care and love she gave Ando ♥️🙏🏼”

“Where do I begin....... Paloma's integrity became apparent even before she arrived here to begin her stay. Despite a last-minute medical procedure that delayed her travel plans, she incurred the additional expense of last-minute flight changes from Canada and two back-to-back red-eye flights to get here in time. From the moment we met, it was clear that she was the right match for our family. Shelby (our dog) took an instant liking to her, and we knew that they would have a great time together while we were gone. The chickens would also enjoy the yard time that they would get daily as she sipped a cup of tea while sitting in the enclosure with them, and/or played on that terrace with Shelby and our neighbor's dog, Stella. Paloma loves hiking, and Shelby walked more during the week that we were away than she ever has with us. Our GPS tracker notified us daily of the distances that she was walking, and she even managed to place on the "Leader Board" - That was a first! Communication with Paloma was stellar. She delighted us with daily videos/photos and stories of their adventures. We were so happy to hear that she was also having a great time. One message proclaimed "I love pretending that I'm a little farmer" We returned to a very happy dog, well-cared-for chickens, laundry washed, and a clean home. What more could we ask for...... This was an amazing first experience of Rover sitters for us. Paloma, you have spoiled us all. I know that your future hosts will be so happy to have you, and we hope that our paths will cross again someday. Our guest house will be yours anytime you find yourself in the area. Beijinhos!”

About: My name is Kara and I am a fit, active, and healthy Canadian professional with a marine science and animal care background. I have always worked and cared for animals - from managing a large equestrian centre (50+ horses) throughout high school, to training and caring for a diverse range of animals at the Vancouver Aquarium. Non professionally, I've always kept pets (e.g. reptiles, amphibians, fishes, spiders, horses, cats, dogs, guinea pits) and I've pet sat for many in my network. During my recent year abroad in Australia, I provided pet sitting services for 100+ dogs (in addition to cats, birds, chickens) on platforms including Aussie Housesitters, Trusted Housesitters, and Madpaws. Throughout my post-secondary education and career, I've received training to understand animal behavior well and I am constantly applying my knowledge to my training services with diligence and consistency. I also have experience working with anxious and reactive dogs. Overall, I truly enjoy the opportunity to work with animals and I am happy to lend my expertise. I know breed temperaments well and consider the needs of the breed when tailoring care to the individual. Myself and my partner have experience providing care to dogs with extreme reactivity and anxiety, and we know how to manage and mitigate these behaviors. It has also been a pleasure to train younger dogs and maintain training of older dogs. If you want to go away and be at ease while enjoying time out, you can be reassured that I will look after your home and animals as if they were my own. As I am new to the platform, my current prices are posted at a discount. They will eventually be raised to be adequately representative of the time spent providing high quality care, enrichment, and training. I take an hour or two out of my day to go for a run and pups are welcome to join if they also enjoy running. Similarly, I am happy to take dogs out on dog-friendly trails/hikes if they suit this type of activity. I have a fully fence backyard, with space for crating and potty training. I am happy to maintain/advance training and am comfortable with operant conditioning.
