“Stephanie did a wonderful job house-sitting and taking care of our elderly cat, Cinnamon, while we were away. She was quick to respond during the scheduling process, which made everything straightforward and stress-free. She cared for Cinnamon with attention and kindness, ensuring she was comfortable throughout. Stephanie also kept us updated with regular check-ins, which gave us peace of mind during our trip. We returned to a clean home and a content cat, which we greatly appreciated. Stephanie was reliable and accommodating, and we would happily work with her again in the future.”

“I had to hire Peter at the last minute after my other sitter wasn't a good fit. All I can say is everything happens for a reason. Peter was so attentive and caring to my senior pup, it was night and day from my previous experiences. Peter checked in and followed all my care instructions and went above my expectations. I will definitely use his services again!”

“Hannah did a great job! We booked her for house sitting, and she watched our dog and cat. Our dog is nervous and shy, but warmed right up to her! She left the house in great shape and was very communicative as well. We would certainly book with her again.”

“Devin took care of our pets while we were on vacation and was great! Our dog and cat seemed to be very well taken care of. Devin has been walking my dog for a few months now and has showed up on time every time. Would recommend her to anyone.”

“Sara is truly a great sitter. She took very good care of my senior dog. I told her and he showed her all of the issues that he has and she handled them with great care which put me at ease. I'll definitely be using her again.”

“Jessica is a caring and reliable sitter for us when we are out of town. She stays in contact with me as often as I send her messages and she kindly sends photos throughout the day. We will continue to book her services and we are thankful we met her.”

“Don't hesitate! Book Saraelizabeth to care for your pets and your house. We traveled abroad for two weeks and left behind four of our own cats, one feral cat that we feed regularly, and a yard full of high maintenance plants. We asked her to stay in our home for the duration of our trip, and we came home to perfectly happy and healthy cats, a yard that is thriving, and an immaculately clean house, which was totally unnecessary for her to clean but she insisted that she was "brought up to leave things the way she found them." Saraelizabeth is extremely responsible and capable, and she was skilled at connecting with our cats who are typically very shy with strangers. She was continuously communicative and exercised excellent judgement on managing our pets, who are used to being indoor-outdoor. The peace of mind her thoughtful, conscientious, diligent service she gave us was priceless. I recommend her without reservations.”

About: I have taken care of dogs in my house cor the last 10 years, and have always looked after / walked my neighbor’s pets and houses anytime they have gone out of town! Pet care fits seamlessly into my flexible schedule due to the fact that I am a student at Samford University. I am in class for a maximum of 4 hours in a day, and love getting to go meet pets and spend time with them while still missing my sweet doggies back home! Obviously always making sure they have been walked, fed, and have plenty water. Pets keep a household running, and taking care of them is such a joy and just brighten my day I would do anything they need.
“Morgan did a great job taking care of our elderly dogs! It was a bit of a last minute trip so we were grateful she was available for a holiday weekend. When we got home the pups were happy and the house looked as if no one had been here. Highly recommend!”
“Catherine is the best! She is so sweet and intentional, and my sweet Knox had the best time with her. She even offers crafts, homemade treats, and paw-decures!! 💅🏼 Will be booking again”

About: I’ve loved dogs my whole life, starting with my childhood pup and later fostering for a local rescue until I became a happy foster fail! 🐾 While I’m not fostering anymore, I still volunteer with the rescue whenever I can. I also specialize in giving medication and following routines, so you can count on me to keep your pup’s care consistent and stress-free. Caring for dogs has always been a passion of mine, and I’d love to give your pup the same love, attention, and belly rubs I’ve given to all the dogs who’ve been part of my life. PLEASE READ ME: 30 minute walks are weather permitted. If you book a 30 minute walk and it is pouring outside, I will take your furbaby outside to potty but the remaining time will turn into an inside visitation. Consisting of belly rubs and throwing a toy around. HOUSE SITTING PLEASE READ ME: I do have a very friendly golden retriever who accompanies me on all my house sitting bookings. She’s friendly to all pets, dogs & cats. Please keep that in mind before booking, thank you! “I work part time, so I have a flexible schedule that allows me to fit pet care into my days with ease. I enjoy making time for walks, play, and routines it’s something I look forward to each week. While I don’t have the space to host dogs in my own home, I’d love to care for your pups in the comfort of theirs. I follow routines closely, give lots of love, and make sure they feel safe and happy while you’re away.
About: Neighbors, friends, and family have relied on me to feed, walk, and entertain their pets for several years. I’ve loved animals for as long as I can remember! I’m a graduate student at UAB and my schedule has the opportunity to be flexible, so I am available for early mornings, late afternoon, and evening walks and check-ins during the week. Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Vestavia Hills
Allison stayed for 8 nights with our 3 month old puppy (Katie) while we were out of the Country. We were concerned with leaving her because she is still so young and has a ton of energy and puppy moments. However, Allison was great. She took care of our Katie and kept us informed of how things were going while we were gone. It helped make our trip worry free. I would highly recommend Allison to take care of your fur baby.

Hayden was absolutely AMAZING! she made sure to send lots of pictures and updates throughout our trip, and was so quick to respond to any texts. this was our first time having a sitter stay at our place and she made it so stress-free! & our dogs just absolutely adored her! cannot recommend Hayden enough!!
Lyndsey was fantastic! She stayed at our place for a week and took great care of our anxious Newfypoo and our rather skiddish Boxer. By the end of her week, both dogs were completely relaxed and at ease with her. With frequent updates along the way to assure us that all was well! We definitely hope to hire her again for our next trip away!

Riley was great. My Bentley is young and in the middle of potty training. Riley continued to work with him during his stay and took the necessary time and patience needed. This took a lot of late nights and early mornings. I cant say enough how happy we were with the time he put in with Bentley. He left the house in pristine condition and followed up with a call to summarize the week. Riley is awesome and we will continue to use him in the future when available.

Morgan has been amazing with our two golden retrievers! She is so kind and a wonderful communicator and we loved the photos she sent us of the dogs while we were away. She was incredibly understanding and flexible when we had to adjust our trip dates as well. Thank you, Morgan, for your excellent care of our girls and our home while we were away!!

Ashlyn took good care of my fur babies for a full week. She gave us daily updates and sent pictures. I have 2 large dogs and a cat and they all have very different personalities… she did a great job handling each one of them. We will definitely call on her again.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Vestavia Hills walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Vestavia Hills maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Vestavia Hills choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Vestavia Hills. On Rover:
- 96% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 100% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
