“Melissa was amazing with my australian shepherd Levi! She was super flexible about scheduling, communicative during his stay, shared lots of photos and videos, and has a lovely dog-friendly set up. I felt reassured knowing Levi was in good hands while we were away and he came back from his stay a happy pup! We will definitely be using Melissa again!”

“Samantha went above and beyond to make sure our dog Zassha had a comfortable stay while we were away. We mentioned Zassha could be an anxious dog around new people and other pets , and she made time for a meet n greet walk so they could get to know one another, and we knew right away that our dog would be in great hands! She sent frequent updates while we were away, and communicated promptly throughout. Samantha even took the dogs out on hikes and to the beach, which is so much more than we could ask for, we loved seeing pictures and videos of them playing together! She was also very flexible when it came to picking our dog up, which we appreciated coming back from a road trip. We would love to have Samantha sit Zassha for us again in the future given the opportunity!”

“Melanie took great care of my dogs and dropped them off before we arrived! She was lovely to communicate with and my dogs seemed happy and healthy when we got him. Her place on the hill with the fenced in area looked lovely for the dogs. Will definitely use Melanie again!”

“Julia was great, able to watch our pup overnight after a last minute booking. She was great with our separation anxiety dog, took plenty of walks and potty breaks, and kept us updated through the stay. Will definitely book with Julia again when we have future needs!”
“Gissell was amazing with our puppy. We got daily photos and videos of her and it was so clear how happy she was even during her first time staying at someone else’s house”

About: I’ve spent most of my life around dogs and understand that every pup has their own personality, pace, and needs. I raised my own dog for nearly 18 years after rescuing him, and that experience taught me patience, consistency, and how to truly care for a dog through every stage of life. Beyond that, I’ve helped care for dogs of all sizes and temperaments—from walking large, high-energy huskies to spending extended time with senior dogs who need a slower, more attentive approach. I focus on creating a calm, safe, and positive experience so your dog feels comfortable and cared for while you’re away. My goal is simple: to treat your dog like they’re my own and give you peace of mind knowing they’re in good hands. I work from home, which allows me to maintain a flexible and consistent schedule throughout the day. I’m available for morning, afternoon, and evening walks or check-ins, and I can easily adapt to your dog’s routine. Because I’m home most of the time, your dog won’t experience long gaps without care or attention. I do step out occasionally for the gym or quick errands, but these are brief and planned around any bookings. When appropriate, I also enjoy bringing dogs along for safe outdoor time like relaxed walks or fresh air. My goal is to provide dependable, attentive care so your dog feels comfortable and you feel confident. I focus on creating a calm, safe, and structured environment where dogs feel secure and well cared for. In my home, I live in a single-story house with a fully fenced yard that allows for safe outdoor time and easy supervision. The space has previously been home to multiple dogs, so it’s well-suited and comfortable for them. I always prioritize safety by monitoring interactions, keeping a clean environment, and following any specific instructions you provide. In a client’s home, I stick closely to your dog’s established routine to reduce stress and maintain consistency. My approach is patient, attentive, and built on trust—treating every dog as if they were my own.
About: I grew up with dogs and cats, however, as a renter, I have not committed to one of my own. I have many years of experience loving and taking care of animals of all ages. I have experience with puppies and taking them to training classes. Each dog has it's own personality and quirks and I am happy to get to know them and their needs. I am happy to learn your expectations and meet them to provide your animal with the best care possible. I love going on hikes and would love to bring your pup along for the company! I work doing property management and from home so I can take you dog with me where ever I go! I typically create my own schedule so I am happy to go for walks and down to the river for a swim, as well! I am happy to listen and abide by all of your pet's needs to keep them safe and loved. I believe that exercise is crucial so I will get them out as often as possible for adventures.
“Jennifer was a wonderful care-taker for our 60lb Vizsla. She was accommodating, communicative, and thoughtful, and cared for George as if he was her own. She made sure that as an active dog, he was adequately stimulated, and she made sure he was comfortable in his foreign environment while we were away. In addition, she made sure to send us updates in a nonintrusive yet fully transparent way. As dog parents, we felt calm and confident that George was in safe and loving hands. This is all we could wish for while away from our pup! Would 10/10 recommend. Thanks, Jennifer!”

“Jan was great with our pup. She sent us regular photo and video updates so we knew she was being well taken care of. Jan ensured our dog got her daily exercise, even in inclement weather. I recommend Jan and will have her care for our dog again in the future.”

About: I have lived in Tahoe for 25 years and always had my own dog and watched over my friend's dogs throughout the years. My best friend (Maggie - Retriever) passed away 18 months ago and I watch many of my friend's dogs frequently, including an elderly short hair retriever that is battling pancreatic cancer. I work from home and board my friend's dogs as well as check in and walk dogs when owners need help. I do have a number of recent references. I have worked from home for 25 years. I am very active and walk frequently. I am an early morning riser and monitor how often dogs need a walk or outside break. Pets are a part of my daily routine. My home: I have beds set up and recognize different doggy routines, ie need to go on the porch for sun, or need to go out for a break and walk. I have a section on my porch and in the laundry area for their food and water and a special area where I organize all the food, medication, leaches, doggy bags. I have a place by my couches with a large basket with balls, toys and stuffed doggy animals. I watch a number of my friend's dogs, and each has a unique and special routine and they have all come to trust me a look forward to visiting. I stay a bit at some of my friend's houses if they want me to help with house watch, plants, delivery receipt and other home needs while they are traveling and away on extended trips.
“Our dog Ruby took to Zoe right away. Zoe was flexible enough for us to pick up Ruby to take her with us for part of our day. When we had to return her to Zoe for the night, Ruby ran right into her house with no reservation, making our stay very relaxed and worry free.”

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
Every sitter on Rover has their own routine. Depending on the arrangements you agree on before the stay, a sitter can follow your dog’s regular feeding schedule, provide a comfortable place to sleep, offer companionship, and support their usual exercise and play needs.
Depending on the sitter, their home environment, and your dog’s needs, daily exercise may include walks, outdoor play, indoor enrichment activities, or supervised play with compatible dogs. These activities are not automatically included with every booking, so ask the sitter what a typical day looks like.
During the Meet & Greet, discuss your dog’s usual exercise and play routine, whether they can safely interact with other dogs, and any activities or restrictions the sitter should follow. You can also ask the sitter to send photo and message updates during the stay so you can see how your dog is spending their time.
Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their The Cedars home-away-from-home, we recommend packing:
- Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
- Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
- Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your The Cedars.
Tip: You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.
You and your The Cedars sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee, which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page.
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in CA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
