“Kim was so great! Visits were consistent every day (which I know my cats appreciated), and many of the daily pictures she sent are so good I could frame them! I really enjoyed working with Kim and look forward to calling on her again the next time we’re out of town.”

“Tabitha was so kind helping my dogs when we needed to get care for them last minute! She sent great pictures and communicated updates as needed. She was reliable, flexible and friendly- We highly recommend her.”

“Carleen was perfect. Everything was in great shape when we returned from our one week trip. Daily updates kept us confident that everything was going well. Looking for someplace else to go now that we have a reliable sitter Thanks Carleen!”

“Paula was OUTSTANDING!!! Full reports and details each visit and our pet crew adored her!! We will most definitely use Paula again anytime we need pet services! It says a lot about her as our dogs , who normally bark at someone new in our home, greeted her whole heartedly with nothing g but tails wagging and wanting to play with her!! THANK YOU PAULA!!”

About: I have previous experience working as a field manager for a professional pet care company where I have taken care of dozens of dogs/cats of all ages with many different routines/needs, I have my Pet First Aid and CPCR certification, and I currently have two young German Shepherd pups of my own! I have always been very passionate about animals and know how important it is to feel that your pets are in good hands when you are away. I currently work an early morning part-time job, which leaves me the rest of the day to play with your pups! I am available during the week and on most weekends for boarding and walking. I live near many different walking trails to keep your dogs entertained. I have a fenced in yard and two young German Shepherd dogs who LOVE playing with other dogs. I have crates and gates if needed. I do my best to keep animals close to their usual daily routines so they are as comfortable as possible while they are away from their owners.

“Dana is seems to be very good with Keira. The dog is always happy in the pictures she sends. I think she does a great job. It was a big plus that she already knew how to use a gentle leader.”

“Shannon was wonderful with our pets. We have a very wacky dog that she was so patient with. She paid attention to all of our cats, and even got our most shy ones to let her pet them. She was careful and attentive to our Crested Gecko as well. She provided thorough updates every visit, and the pictures made us confident our pets were being well taken care of. We would absolutely book Shannon again to care for our family while we’re away!”

About: With 30+ years of hands-on animal care experience, caring for animals isn’t just a hobby for me — it’s a lifelong passion. I grew up around my grandparents’ AKC dog kennel & have cared for everything from dogs & cats to reptiles, exotic birds, & unique critters. I studied Veterinary Assisting at Massanutten Technical Center & dual-enrolled in Veterinary Technology at Blue Ridge Community College, where I completed internships in both small animal clinics & large animal (farm) settings. I’m comfortable with pets of all ages, including puppies, seniors, & animals needing extra patience or specialized care. Whether your pet has fur, feathers, scales, or something a little more unusual, I provide a safe, loving, & stress-free environment where they’ll be treated like family. Pet care has always been a big part of my life, & I’m fortunate to have the flexibility to make your pets a priority. With over 30 years of animal care experience, including growing up around an AKC dog kennel & veterinary assisting training, I understand that pets are family & deserve personalized attention. My routine allows me to provide consistent care, including walks, playtime, feeding schedules, medication needs, & plenty of love & companionship. I take pride in creating a safe, calm, & comfortable environment where pets feel cared for while their owners have peace of mind. Safety, trust, & comfort are always my top priorities when caring for your pets. I believe every pet has their own personality & needs, so I take the time to learn their routines, behaviors, & what helps them feel happy and secure. With over 30 years of animal care experience, including growing up around an AKC dog kennel & completing Veterinary Assisting training, I have experience caring for dogs and cats of all ages—from playful puppies & kittens to senior pets who need extra patience, comfort, & attention. I’m comfortable providing care for pets with different personalities, including shy, anxious, or special-needs animals. I understand the importance of maintaining routines, recognizing changes in behavior, & providing a calm environment where pets feel safe. Whether caring for your pet in my home or yours, I treat every animal with the same compassion and respect I would want for my own. My goal is to give your pets loving, dependable care while giving you peace of mind that they are in capable hands.
“Tom was a superstar with our newly adopted, very shy 6 month old puppy. We only had the pup 2 weeks when Tom agreed to help us with a “let out” for crate training. This was not an easy task as the pup was still adjusting to his new home. Tom had patience and understanding with our pup and we appreciated it more than he knows. Tom was trustworthy and very attentive to the needs of our pup. His communication was stellar as well. We highly recommend Tom!!!!”

“My wife has always had someone to watch her dog, but we recently built a house and she moved to Goochland County. It was our first time using the Rover service and Riley was great. She sent notes and pictures to keep us updated on each stay. She was great and will be using her services again!”

“Cynthia is an excellent cat sitter! She has tons of experience with cats, had no problem cleaning up after my cat when she had an accident, and shared helpful advice for cat care. I’ve already booked her twice and intend to have her as my go to for future travel!”

About: I’ve had two dogs in my life and the most recent one was very old and taking care of her was something I did everyday. I also trained her when she was young to do basic commands. I am free any day during the week besides late afternoon and nights during Thursday every week, I am open to any day of the week six days a week I worked closely with my last dog and was able to rely on her with close observation to take care of her in the yard as well as in the house.
“Ruby loves Allison! We appreciate her prompt communication and attention to detail. She brings in my packages, searches for missing treasure Ruby has buried in the yard. Highly recommend!”

About: I've always had a soft spot for the pets that need a little extra love. Over the years, I've adopted two rescue dogs and two rescue cats. One of my dogs was a deaf and partially blind senior who had been overlooked at the shelter, and caring for him taught me patience, attentiveness, and how to make an anxious or special-needs pet feel safe. Today I'm the proud cat mom to two tuxedo rescues, ages 14 and 6, who both have separation anxiety. Because of them, I understand how important it is to keep pets comfortable, maintain their routines, and earn their trust. I'll care for your pets with the same patience and love I give my own. Pet care is a natural part of my daily routine. I work from home, which gives me the flexibility to provide dependable care and adjust my schedule to meet each pet's needs. I'm an early riser, so my mornings always begin by feeding, playing with, and checking in on my own cats before I start my workday. Because I'm home throughout the day, I'm able to give pets plenty of attention, companionship, and playtime rather than leaving them alone for long stretches. Whether your cat needs a little extra affection, interactive play, fresh food and water, or simply someone to check in and make sure they're comfortable, I have the flexibility to provide attentive, consistent care. I know how important routine is—especially for cats—and I'll do my best to keep your pet's day as familiar and stress-free as possible while you're away. At home, my cats are part of my family, and I make sure they always have fresh food and water, clean litter boxes, daily playtime, and, of course, plenty of affection on their own terms. Because they have very different personalities, I've learned that every cat has unique needs. One may want to play and cuddle, while another simply appreciates a calm presence and a predictable routine. When caring for pets in a client's home, I strive to keep their routine as consistent as possible. I'll follow your feeding schedule, refresh water, clean litter boxes, administer medications if needed, and spend quality time with your pet based on what makes them happiest—whether that's interactive play, brushing, lap time, or simply sitting quietly with them so they feel safe and comfortable.
About: Hello there! I’m Sam. I’ve loved animals since I was 9 years old and have been a pet sitter on Rover for over 4 years now. As you can see from all my reviews, I enjoy being part of this community! Currently, I have two fur babies of my own: Tango, a Norwegian Elkhound, and Scout, a Pitbull/Yorkie mix. In 2024, my beloved Timmy, a dachshund senior dog passed away at 15 years old, so I also have personal experience caring for older dogs who need a little extra love and specialized attention. I know firsthand how important and how difficult it is to find someone you can completely trust with your pets while you're away. I can assure you that your fur baby will be in safe hands with me. A Little Perk: I just got a nice camera and am looking to practice my photography! I am offering free digital pictures with any house-sitting or drop-in booking. I currently work a remote 9-to-5 job with plenty of flexibility, meaning I can easily adjust my schedule to fit your pet's specific routine and needs throughout the day. I do not offer services in my home since I live in an apartment with my 2 dogs. I have a reliable means of transportation, and I can make any special accomodations for your pets if necessary.

Cat sitters on Rover care for your cats’ needs and can spend quality time with them, including activities like feeding, playing, and refreshing their water and litter boxes. Depending on your arrangement, you can schedule as many visits per day as your cat needs or find a sitter who can stay at your house overnight. Some sitters also board cats in their home.
House sitting can be ideal for cats who need socialization or care that lasts longer than a few hours. Your cat stays in their own home, on their own schedule, with care based on what you and your sitter agree on together.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your cat, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Subletts. On Rover:
- 94% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
