Jordan was amazing. She took great care of Tango and sent us updates and pictures throughout the weekend. She was very thorough and asked lots of questions when we met up before to make sure Tango would be well taken care of. We will absolutely be hiring Jordan again!

Claudia watched my dog for about four days while I was away for the holidays. She was very easy to communicate with and easy going. She was able to handle my large dog who is a bit rambunctious at times. While I was away, she periodically sent me updates and even some photos and videos. My dog was relaxed and happy when I got home and my house was in the condition I left it in. Overall, she was fantastic and I would definitely recommend her services.

Robin hands down is one of the best. We booked her for the first time for 2 weeks to stay in our home since our Lilly is 17 years old and is blind and deaf. Robin did an amazing job taking care of our Lilly and loving her as if she was her own. Sent pictures daily and updates. We came home to a spotless home. Like we had never left. I highly recommend Robin 100 percent! 🥰

Absolutely amazing house sitters! I can’t sing their praises enough! They were so kind and I knew the house and our 3 little pups would be in great hands! They send daily pictures and checked in to make sure we knew everything was ok, they even left the house in a better state than when we left. The pups were happy and relaxed when we returned and that has never happened! I hope we will be lucky enough for them to be available the next time we are out of town!

About: I’m an experienced, dependable dog lover with two active, playful dogs of my own, and I have previous house-sitting experience caring for other people’s dogs. I enjoy providing dogs of all sizes with engaging playtime, regular walks, and attentive care. I’m comfortable caring for puppies, adult dogs, and senior dogs, including helping reinforce basic training and routines. I’m confident handling both large and small breeds, and I prioritize safety, consistency, and each dog’s individual needs. I understand the importance of keeping a reliable schedule for meals, walks, playtime, medications, and other care instructions. I can also provide baths when needed. Most importantly, I genuinely love spending time with dogs and making sure they feel happy, safe, and well cared for. I currently have a flexible schedule and plenty of availability for pet care. As a college student, I will need to attend classes during the academic year; however, I am on summer break until late September and have broad availability during that time. Once the school year begins, I will be in class on Wednesdays from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Outside of those hours, I can provide reliable and attentive care for your pet. I prioritize every pet’s safety, comfort, and routine. I will keep unsafe or non-pet-friendly items securely out of reach and follow your preferences for collars, harnesses, leashes, and outdoor safety. For walks, car rides, and any time spent outside the home, I will make sure your pet is properly secured. I will maintain their regular feeding and potty schedule, provide frequent outdoor breaks, and keep them engaged with activities they enjoy, such as fetch, tug-of-war, or other favorite games. Most importantly, I will provide plenty of companionship, attention, and affection so your pet feels safe, happy, and cared for while you are away.

Rebecca was amazing! Our dog was 3 weeks post ACL surgery, Rebecca was able to maintain the recovery plan and provide the attention and care needed to keep our dog happy and calm. Rebbeca's communication was wonderful, she provided daily updates and photos which provided us with a sense of comfort while we were away. We hope our schedules align with Rebecca's when we need pet sitting in the near future.

I cannot say enough good things about how Brandy took care of our dog. She is caring and really bonded with Abbey. Her daily photos were a source of great comfort for us as we traveled, knowing Abbey was in such good hands. Also, she left the house in wonderful shape - vacuumed the whole house and everything was shipshape. We will definitely use Brandy again when we travel.

Nellie was absolutely wonderful and took such great care of our little munchkins! She had great attention to detail with our little ones. Specifically, one of our puppies has a history of seizures and requires medication multiple times a day. Nellie also sent pictures and updates on how they were all doing which was comforting given it was one of our longest trips away from home.

About: I’ve been surrounded by animals my entire life and have cared for pets since I was a child. Caring for animals isn’t just something I do—it’s something I truly love. As a retired pet sitter with a flexible schedule, I can give your pets the time, attention, companionship, and frequent potty breaks they deserve throughout the day. I’m experienced caring for pets of all ages, including senior dogs and cats, and I’m comfortable administering medications when needed. I also have experience caring for cats, alpacas, goats, chickens, and cows, so I’m comfortable with a variety of animals and their unique needs. I understand that every pet has their own personality and routine, and I take the time to make them feel safe, loved, and comfortable while you’re away. I share my home with my sweet senior Beagle, who is very laid-back, gentle, and gets along well with other animals. His calm personality helps visiting pets feel welcome and at ease. While my yard is not fenced, I live in a wonderful, walkable neighborhood that’s perfect for safe leash walks, sniff adventures, or stroller rides for senior pets who still enjoy getting outside. For added peace of mind, a veterinary clinic is conveniently located right at the bottom of my street should an emergency ever arise. I will care for your pets as if they were my own, providing them with plenty of love, patience, and individualized attention. I’ll also keep you updated with photos and messages so you can relax knowing your furry family member is in loving, dependable hands. As a retiree, I have a very flexible schedule and can provide care any day of the week, including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and last-minute bookings when available. Because I’m home most of the day, your pet will receive plenty of attention, companionship, frequent potty breaks, playtime, walks, and lots of love. I understand how important it is to keep pets on their normal routine, and I’m happy to work around their schedule to help them feel safe, comfortable, and cared for while you’re away. “For everyone’s safety, I only allow dogs outdoors while securely leashed unless otherwise instructed by the owner.” As a previous owner of two small Yorkies, who sadly passed away from old age, I know how important it is for them to continuously be watched due to predators etc. I will always be very cautious with your prize possessions. I occasionally have my 7 year old grandson in my home, but he is great with animals. He’s only at my place a couple times a week.

FAQs for House Sitting - Startup

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of September 2026, there are 3,455 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Startup. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Startup walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Startup maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Startup choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Startup. On Rover:

  • 93% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 94% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
