I think we'll have lots of fun together! I work-part time substituting and working for a non-profit retail store, but I often find I'm overwhelmed with people. Even though animals are demanding, they aren't as much an energy drain. My retail job is on the weekend, and subbing is during the week. I tend to accept subbing jobs the night before or the morning of the assignment, so I'd like 1-2 days advance for when you'd like me to take care of your dog or cat. I first like to know emergency contact info. This usually means the clients, but this can also be a vet. I then like to know the pet's dietary or personal needs as well as their schedule, what sets them off or gets them calm, and their basic personality traits. This helps me ensure I'm able to provide them with the best care. Typically homeowners will have a safe space already for their pet, but I continue that trend by ensuring nothing hazardous is left out. Above all, I try to establish a level of trust with the pet. Once I do, it makes ensuring the safety of the pet easier.

Hi there! My name is India, and I'm a lifelong animal-lover from sunny Southern California. I have always adored both cats and dogs, and I'm deeply committed to understanding their behavior/needs both in general and as individuals. Though I wasn’t able to have my own cat until early adulthood, I have always been fascinated by them. After taking an animal behavior course in high school, my awareness of the communication potential between humans and all animals increased dramatically, and my ability to communicate with cats and dogs especially benefitted. Since then, I have developed not just a passion but a real knack for genuine, effective, and compassionate communication with our furry friends. What’s my secret? To me, each and every cat or dog is an individual first and foremost, and deserves to be treated as such. I take great joy in meeting all of them and revel in the experience of getting to know their unique personalities, quirks, and preferences. Above all, I respect them and meet them wherever they are. There's just nothing quite like the love and appreciation you receive from an animal who has just realized they can truly trust you with their needs! As for experience, I spent much of 2019 working at a large pet store, where I received thorough training in basic dog behavior and the prevention/de-escalation of aggressive encounters involving both humans and multiple canines. Over the last 10 years, I have provided as-needed pet and house sitting services primarily to friends with 1-2 cats or small-medium dogs. I also have experience with elderly cats as well as those with other special needs, so I’m comfortable administering medications (oral, inhaled, or topical). Prior to that, I raised my first cat from a kitten through early adulthood (3 years total). Until recently, I was also caring for my own cat, Scully, whom I adopted as a terrified, traumatized kitten 7 years ago and have since transformed into a curious, mischievous little lovebug! It took some time and oh so much patience, but rehabilitating and socializing her has easily been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Unfortunately, she now lives out-of-state with her other parent, but on the flipside this leaves me with plenty of time and flexibility to accommodate your pets and your schedule! I currently cannot care for animals in my home, but I genuinely prefer offering in the pet's home environment, where they are most comfortable, anyway. I also own my own, very reliable vehicle, so I do not mind traveling up to 30 minutes from my location in Outer SE Portland. I also currently have the flexibility to accommodate almost any schedule, including multiple overnights, so please don't hesitate to reach out for a quote! NOTE: Although I absolutely adore big dogs, I am unable to offer dog-walking services to pooches weighing over 40lbs. I currently have the flexibility to accommodate almost any schedule, both drop-ins and overnights. I require small windows of time in the morning and evening to care for my own cat, but otherwise my days are very open. I am currently unable to provide care in my own home. However, when providing care in a client’s home, I am always careful to ask about and document any risk factors that might already exist in the home. I generally default to the pet parent’s knowledge of and rules for their own animals, but I’m also careful to maintain my own knowledge of house plants and food items that can be toxic or deadly to pets.
