“Jennifer was a God send for us. We booked VERY last minute as our original sitter bailed on us the day we were supposed to leave to go out of town. Not only did she agree to drop in on our pup she took 53 photos, a video, and texted us at every visit a complete play by play! Let me tell you, seeing our dog smile as though he was home with us made us feel so comfortable with Jennifer. We will definitely be booking with her the next time we need a sitter!”

“Lauren was amazing!! So communicative and friendly. She took great care of my old man dog and was willing to accommodate all his special care needs! Will definitely be using her again!”

“Emily is a very courteous caretaker of pets and the house as well. She is great at reviewing the instructions and asking great questions to make sure she knows what to do during the sit. Her communication is awesome, and she sends great pictures of our kitties while she was watching them! For what it’s worth we have a very shy kitty and after several sits, the kitty has warmed up to Emily which is awesome. if you need someone to overnight and watch your critters and your house, she is definitely someone to consider!”

“I ended up having to cut my trip short. I had booked Makayla for four days to stay at my house and ended up coming home on the second day due to difficulties in my trip. I appreciated that she quickly modified my payment amount.”

“Helen watched our dogs, Sophie and Tala, and house sat for us over the weekend, and we couldn’t be happier with how everything went. She took great care of the dogs, and it gave us real peace of mind knowing they were in good hands. When we got back, the house was left clean and virtually untouched—it looked just as we left it. Helen was reliable, respectful, and easy to communicate with throughout the whole process. We would absolutely recommend her and would gladly have her watch our dogs and home again in the future!”

About: I had a golden retriever when i was little girl, and my love for dogs exploded! I have experience with young puppies to older dogs. Playing fetch and walking are my favorite activities to see doggie tails wagging! 😊 I currently work part time and go to college part time. I have plenty of time to take care of your loving fur babies and make them always feel at home! I cannot do pet sitting at home, but I am more than comfortable staying at your home and taking care of your furry animal! Safety comes first!
“Lillie watched our two dogs in our home for 3 nights and 4 days. She did an excellent job. She gave updates a couple times a day. She also responded whenever I reached out. We would use her again.”

“We had an excellent experience with Abigail and would absolutely book again. From the start, communication was clear, proactive, and professional, which made coordinating everything seamless. Our dogs were incredibly well cared for—happy, relaxed, and clearly comfortable the entire time we were away. We received regular updates and photos, which gave us real peace of mind. It was obvious our sitter paid close attention to routines, preferences, and small details that make a big difference. Our home was also left in great condition—clean, organized, and exactly as we left it. That level of respect and care doesn’t go unnoticed. Overall, this was a stress-free, reliable experience. If you’re looking for someone trustworthy, attentive, and easy to work with, I highly recommend her.”

About: My schedule is hybrid so I can be in and out during the work day. I grew up around cats and also have a toy fox terrier. I spent a lot of time with labs as well. Spade spent a lot of time with beagles and labs. I used to have a Chihuahua who sadly passed away 2 years ago. The yard is completely fenced in and big enough for them to play. I will also take them for walks. I have experience with injections for dogs that need insulin or medication. I work two days at home three days in office. It is hybrid and a lot of it is spent out in the community so I am able to pop in and out a lot during the work week. I have a fenced in backyard. I have a dog that is super friendly and loving. She loves other animals and any kind of company.
“Kerri is an absolutely amazing dog sitter — truly one of the best out there. She’s reliable, caring and someone we trust completely with Pearl and our home. Her communication is fantastic! She keeps us updated with plenty of photos, which always make our day. Pearl adores her so much that we wonder if we should be jealous ;-) And honestly, we want to gatekeep Kerri because she’s that good… but we won’t (even though a part of us really wants to). If you’re looking for someone who will love your dog like their own and keep you in the loop the whole time, Kerri is the one.”

“It was a pleasure to have Alyssa in our home. Her availability was exactly what we needed for our older dog and her communication with us was great! Our dog was well cared for and our home was clean when we arrived back home. Will definitely book her again for future trips!”

About: I have had dogs my entire life and caring for them has always been a big part of who I am. I currently work at a doggy daycare, where I spend my days supervising, playing with, and caring for dogs of all breeds, sizes, and personalities. This experience has given me strong skills in understanding dog behavior, maintaining safe group environments, and making sure every dog feels comfortable and cared for. I have experience with dogs of all ages, training levels, abilities, and dietary needs. I’m comfortable caring for high-energy puppies, senior dogs who need a gentler pace, and everything in between. Working in daycare has also taught me how to read body language, manage different temperaments, and provide individualized attention to each dog. My goal is always to make pets feel safe, loved, and happy while giving owners peace of mind that their dog is in good hands. I treat every dog like they are my own and truly enjoy getting to know each pet’s unique personality. 🐾 Pet care fits naturally into my routine. I currently work part-time and am an MSU senior and have a flexible schedule, which allows me to dedicate time and attention to the pets I care for. I’m available for visits, walks, and sitting during weekdays after work and have more open availability on weekends. Since I already spend much of my time around animals through my job, caring for pets is something I truly enjoy and easily incorporate into my day. Safety and comfort are my top priorities when caring for pets. I always take time to learn each pet’s routine, personality, and any specific needs they may have so I can provide consistent and attentive care. In a client’s home, I respect their space and follow all instructions closely, including feeding schedules, medications, exercise, and house rules. I pay close attention to animal behavior and make sure pets are always in a safe and calm environment. My goal is to make pets feel relaxed and cared for while giving owners peace of mind that their pet is in good hands.
About: I grew up around dogs my entire life! My dad used to breed rottweiler puppies! I also have a puppy of my own so i am extremely experienced! I currently work from 7am to about 2pm. But I am available to let them out before work and then once I am out of work my full attention is on your pets! I also have weekends off and when pet sitting I stay home aside from a quick trip to get food or something I do not offer at my home services. I unfortunately have 4 dogs in my home and it is already so chaotic! But I will absolutely take care of your pet in your home and respect your home like my own!
About: Hi! My name is Malia and I have a passion for taking care of dogs and cats of all ages and sizes. I have one dog of my own and would love to take care of your pet! I have flexible availability.
About: I grew up on a farm and I know my way around animals. I currently have two dogs. The youngest one, Phoebe, I was the primary care taker when she was a puppy since my parents were at work and I was at home during covid doing online school. My second dog, Beau came to our family when he was 4.5 years old because his previous owner couldn’t take care of him. I’ve also dog sat dogs from friends and family growing. I’m a big dog lover and looking forward to working with you. I am currently working part time at Carls Supermarket as a deli clerk. I’m available Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and every other weekend. I would love a heads up 3 days in advance however i’m open to one day or same day notice in some circumstances. I have large back yard and a lovely neighborhood to walk and play with your pooch. I do have a park 5 minutes from my home as well. My yard is unfenced however I have a dog run and other extended leashes so your dog can play. I have crates if you need to crate them as well. I do have two dogs at home. They are not aggressive but if preferred I can keep them away from your dog.

Jordyn watched our two dogs in our home for a week. She did a great job following instructions and taking care of them. She always sent daily updates and was quick to respond and left the house clean and tidy. The dogs seemed to enjoy her company. I would be happy to use her again.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Portland walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Portland maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Portland choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Portland. On Rover:
- 97% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 100% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
