“Megan is amazing, she came on time, followed instructions, took Athena out at night and in the morning as instructed, not to mention she stayed up all night with Athena🥹 which was very sweet of her, but not necessary. She sent us updated pictures and gave us a nice little summary before she left the house. We definitely will be booking with her again, thank you so much!!!”

“Elissa is a really sweet and very professional person. She’s house-sitted and dropped by to take care of my two puppies and they’ve quickly grown to love her. She’s trustworthy and communicative. I would highly recommend her!”

“I felt very comfortable leaving my 2 cats in Leticia’s care. Very reliable and consistent with timing. I received daily updates including photos. I highly recommend Leticia for your pet sitting needs.”

“Brooke is an all around wonderful person and it translates over to the way she cares for dogs. Our dog, Chancha, had the best time with her! It was a last minute booking, too! My boyfriend took me on a surprise trip to propose and if it weren’t for Brooke’s quick response and willingness to dog sit, he might’ve haven’t had that chance or made this trip happen! So, thank you beyond words!!! She is responsible, compassionate, and truly someone that loves dogs. I wouldn’t skip her over! She is 6 stars out of 5.”

About: I started my experience dog walking 2 years ago for a professor’s friend in Winchester, Virginia. Twice a week, I would walk her hyper pups. She then recommended me to her father, whose dog I began walking twice a week as well. From there, my mini business boomed through word of mouth. I began dog sitting in people’s homes as well for multiple individuals for varying time spans. Most of the dogs I interacted with were seniors and required extensive care. However, all dogs owners loved and recommended me to others! I still walk the original dogs and add in others as my schedule allows with two other jobs. I am sad to leave my extensive clientele in Winchester, but I am moving back to New Jersey for graduate school and excited to meet new puppy friends!! For the summertime, I am incredibly flexible with nothing planned. I prefer weekly walks / drop ins, but also like sitting as well. In August, I start physical therapy school at Columbia University so my availability will decrease but I’d be willing to provide services on nights / weekends. During breaks, my availability will open up again! Whenever walking / sitting, I respect the owner’s rules, no matter what. I long to maintain utmost cleanliness and adherence to routine as physically possible. I am also very communicative and honest, building trust with my clients.
About: Animals have always been family to me. I grew up with dogs and now share my home with two cats who are truly my kids. I’m the kind of pet parent who wakes up in the middle of the night if they need me, or rushes to the vet the moment something feels off. When I lived with my parents, I cared for their two dogs with the same devotion. From daily walks and playtime to the less glamorous tasks, I did it all with love. What sets me apart is my genuine commitment to treating every pet like they’re my own. Whether it’s an energetic puppy needing play and structure, or a senior pet who deserves patience and gentle care, I bring reliability, compassion, and the kind of attentiveness that gives pet parents peace of mind. With me, your pets will feel safe, loved, and cared for as if you never left. I work full-time as a Human Resources Benefits Administrator monday through friday 8–5, but outside of those hours I’m available for pet care. On Fridays I work remotely, which gives me extra flexibility. I can do daytime visits, evenings, or overnight care the night before. I make sure to plan around my work schedule so your pets get the attention they need. On Saturdays and Sundays, I’m fully available for drop-ins, walks, or overnight care. I care for pets like they’re my own. I follow your routines so their day feels normal and stress-free, whether it’s mealtime, playtime, or quiet time. I keep things clean and safe by refreshing water, cleaning litter boxes, and tidying up after walks or play. Every pet is different, I pay attention to what makes them happy, extra cuddles, space to relax, or more play.
“Erin was reliable, communicative, and made the entire experience stress-free. I felt completely comfortable leaving my dog in her care, and it was clear my dog was well looked after. I wouldn't hesitate to book with her again. Highly recommend!”

“She was great with our pups. One fairly energetic, but in need of calm because he was recovering from knee surgery, and the other a 17 year old diva who is mostly blind and mostly deaf. Will definitely book again.”

“Tatiana was wonderful with our puppy! She was caring, playful, and very knowledgeable. She not only followed all of our requests but also went above and beyond with her own thoughtful touches. We felt completely at ease knowing our pup was in her hands”

“I highly recommend CeeCee for your pet and home sitting needs. We hired her to look after our overly affectionate cat and our quirky pit-mix pup while out of town for 6 days. CeeCee was communicative, sent pictures, and took care of needs as requested, including watering plants. She kept the house tidy, even throwing in a load of wash at the end of her stay. We will definitely be repeat customers for future pet sitting needs.”

“Jennifer house sit with our dog for several days and was great to work with. I would highly recommend. When we came home we can tell that our dog was well taken care of and happy. She also took care of the house very well- and went above and beyond for us. She kept us posted and gave us updates on how our dog was doing and what he was up to. Our dog also had a recent minor leg injury and Jennifer was extra careful with him and followed our instructions well.”

“Stephanie was terrific. Friendly, conscientious, really took great care of our dog while we were away for3 days. Sent many photos so we knew everything was going well. Would definitely use her again.”

About: If you give me the opportunity to care for your pet, you'll feel at ease knowing I'll take care of it as if it were my own. I'll give it all the love and attention it needs to make you feel happy. Right now I'd like to dedicate myself solely to animals and their care. I have every day of the week free to dedicate myself to them. For me, all animals deserve the same treatment and care. I always give them my best, no matter the occasion. I will always give you all my love, attention and you will never lack my care.
“Ariana was AMAZING! She stayed in our home and took care of our two pups. One that is an elder pup and requires medication. She took them on daily walks and left our home in perfect order. Ariana communicates well and our pups can’t wait to see her again. Highly recommend Ariana. 12 out of 10 stars!!”

About: Hi! I’m Lindsay, a 19-year-old college student originally from New Jersey. Some things about me that I do on my free time is going on runs, going to the beach, and spending time with friends and family. I’ve been around animals my entire life and have years of hands-on experience caring for both dogs and cats. Growing up, my family always had dogs, and now currently have a tabby cat. I’ve frequently helped care for pets belonging to friends and relatives as well. I will always enjoy spending time with pets whether it be on a walk or just hanging out with them to keep company! I also have been caring for pets through a different app as well providing walks, sittings, drop ins, etc with a 5 star rating! The same love and attention I give to my pet will be the same for yours! I’m currently working part-time at Ben And Jerry’s. Usually Mondays, Thursdays, Friday, Saturdays. However, I work around my schedule as a pet-caregiver. I understand how important it is to feel safe and comfortable when leaving your pet in someone’s care. I promise to treat your pet with the same love, respect, and attention that I give to my own. Your pet’s well-being and happiness will always be my top priority, and I will make sure they feel secure and cared for every step of the way!

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Paterson
Giselle is hands down the best sitter we’ve had. She went above and beyond in every way. Our elderly cat, who is usually skittish with new people, took to, her right away. My dog Cody was smitten, and we felt at ease the whole time we were gone. The pictures we received each day were proof positive they were happy. Giselle has a real gift with animals. This was our very first Rover experience, and we hit the Jackpot with her!

We had Debora stay in our house with our two dogs. She did such a good job that I think our dogs might be sad that their staycation with Debora is over. We got updates and photos every day. The dogs’ schedule was adhered to completely and we feel that they were very well taken care of. Debora is also a very sweet, caring person and we look forward to have her watch our pups again in the future!

Valerie did a great job taking housesitting and taking care of our animals (dog & cats). The house was in good order and she sent photos and regular reports via chat. We know how our animals are and the reports were right on track with what experience - the good and the moody! - which added a lot of trust on our part. Definitely recommend Valerie!

This was our first time using Katherine for dog sitting our 8 year old lab mix, Gus. We needed someone on very short notice who was willing to stay at our house. Katherine was very responsive and flexible to our needs. Our plans were difficult to nail down and Katherine was easy going and adjusted the reservation without hesitation. While we were away she was outstanding at keeping us in the loop with pictures and videos of Gus. Getting those reminders that Gus was being well cared for, played with and well fed was a big relief. I would recommend Katherine to anyone and look forwards to using her in the future!

We’re so happy to have found Eilleen! She is reliable, communicative, and super friendly. We felt so comfortable leaving our Lucy in her care, and Lucy loved her so much! They had a great time snuggling and hanging out together. We will certainly be rebooking in the near future!

Joeli took fantastic care of Boomer! It was our first time using Rover for an overnight sitter (without first getting to know someone with walks) and she was great! Watched our pup for - 5 day trip. She had Excellent communication and we came home to a happy dog an a clean house.

James was wonderful with Brio. Our much loved dog gets anxious and grumpy when we leave him in someone else's care, so we were delighted to see videos of Brio playing in the yard early in our trip. James was just the reassuring presence Brio needed! We were truly appreciative of his care, and look forward to having him back.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Paterson walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Paterson maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Paterson choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Paterson. On Rover:
- 89% of sitters can help with special care needs

- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
