“Liz was absolutely wonderful with our newly adopted dog. She was so patient, kind, and clearly experienced in working with dogs who are still adjusting to a new home. She took him on long walks, gave him lots of attention, and treated him like her own. We’re so grateful to have found Liz and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy and compassionate pet sitter!”

“Avary did a great job watching over our pets while we were out of town for about a week. Her communication was prompt, she sent lots of pics of our cat and dog, and we look forward to using her again for our pet/house sitting needs in the future!”

“Suzanne was nothing but spectacular. She was extremely meticulous with our pets and I was very comfortable having her stay in our home. She went above and beyond with things around the house, inside and out. Watered plants, filled feeders, laundry etc. She was always reachable and sent pictures. I am pretty particular with who I choose to watch our pets and Suzanne exceeded my expectations. ❤️ Thank you, Suzanne!!”

“Jordan is an amazing dog sitter, excellent communication, professional and our dogs love her. I was able to fully enjoy being away because she was taking wonderful care of our dogs. Will definitely have her sit again!”

“Stevie stayed in my home with Miley and Parker for four days and took incredible care of both of them. She made sure they received all of their medications, kept me updated with messages and photos, and gave them so much love and attention. I came home to two happy, relaxed dogs and a house that was just as I left it. Knowing they were so well cared for gave me complete peace of mind while I was away. I'll be booking Stevie every chance I get... so get in line! 😊”

“Mary was fantastic with Ricky and Riley. She really made them feel at home in my absence. Whether it was playing with them in the backyard or comforting them in a thunderstorm, she was professional and diligent. I strongly recommend her services, and I know I will be calling her again.”

“McKinnon took great care of our pup. She kept in touch with us and sent us photos (which we love and so appreciate), and Frasier was obviously well cared for and happy while we were away. Thanks so much, McKinnon!!”

“Cathy took great care of my 2 mini schnauzers. They were relaxed (as much as mini schnauzers can relax😆) and healthy when we returned home. I felt very comfortable leaving my doggies with Cathy in charge! Cathy was very communicative throughout her stay and she was respectful of our home. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We will continue to have her help us with our doggies during our times away from home.”

About: I love caring for pets and making sure they feel safe, comfortable, and happy while their owners are away! I've been dog sitting for family and friends for the past three years and have experience with all kinds of pups. From energetic puppies who need lots of attention and playtime to senior dogs who require medication and a little extra care. I know every pet has their own personality and routine, and I always do my best to help them feel relaxed and right at home. I love being active and spending time outdoors, so if your dog enjoys walks, playtime, or just hanging out outside, I'll make sure they get plenty of exercise and attention. If they're more laid-back and prefer relaxing inside, I'm happy to spend quality time indoors too! I also have experience caring for elderly dogs, including administering medications and following special care instructions. My goal is to give you peace of mind while you're away and make sure your pet gets lots of love and the best care possible! Pet care fits naturally into my routine! I genuinely enjoy spending time with animals, whether that means going for walks, playing, giving medications, or just keeping them company. I’m flexible with my schedule and always make sure pets get plenty of attention. I always make sure to follow all of my client's instructions and care for their pets as if they were my own. Your pet's safety, comfort, and happiness are my top priorities. I will also treat your home with the same respect and care! I prioritize keeping everything clean and exactly how I found it while you're away.

About: I have taken care of all kinds of dogs, cats, and other pets for friends, family, and neighbors since I was 13. I have experience in young pets and senior pet. I’m am currently going to school part-time so I’ll have plenty of time to take care of your fur babies. Every new semester my schedule changes but working around my classes shouldn’t be a problem. I love you go on walk and will play will your fur pets as much as they need. I am willing to do some housesitting as well as some light housekeeping.
“Elizabeth watched our 4 pups while we were out-of-state and was absolutely phenomenal! Really the best dog sitter we’ve ever had. Took fantastic care of both the pups and our home! She took time out of her day to take the pups to parks and even to continue working on their training while we were away. Truly loved her and will definitely be using her every time we need a sitter for our pups!”

“Daniela was amazing. When we got home from our trip our dog was so happy and relaxed. She washed our sheets and sent us regular updates of how everything was going while we were away. I would highly recommend Daniela.”

About: I grew up working on Cheryl's farm. Savethehorses. Helped look after all kinds of animals including over 15 dogs. There was never a dull moment being surrounded by all types of animals in my care. I currently own 3 dogs now but have owned up to 5 dogs at one time and cats in the past. I have raised a couple dog liters as well as one cat liter. All found amazing homes and I have been able to stay connected to watch them grow and thrive. I have training in animal behavior as it is important to know what to look for when caring after someone else's animal, even your own. Things can happen fast and you have to be able to know what to do next. I have raised three male dogs in my house hold and as you probably can guess, things can get overwhelming but it's important to know what to do if an animal makes a quick decision that can change the situation very quickly. Each animal has their own specific needs and I will be sure to follow what is needed for your fur babies to thrive while you are away or working in within your home. Whether it is my animal I'm caring for or someone else's, I take it very seriously to ensure the proper care is given. I have a senior dog at home as well, she is 13yrs old with cancer and a deteriorating spinal cord disease who gets supplements every morning amongst other medications. She is my couch potato but my absolute world, she is fragile and living out the last years of her life being the wonderful potato she is. I have experience in birthing two dog liters and 1 cat liter. Experienced in what is needed before and after birth. Extra care if needed. I have worked along the side of a professional dog trainer as well as helped run a boarding and training facility up to 30 dogs, being one out of two kennel techs. I work at a vet hospital in ellijay, ga for dogs and cats of all sizes and breeds currently. I am looking to help others out who need the extra hand in caring for their fur babies. If your working from home or away or just simply need the extra hand. I've got you! Sometimes it takes a village and it's important to know you can trust someone to take care of your fur babies no matter the size or fluff. It's important to take your pups for a walk or utilize the pets favorite way to get all that energy out could be throwing a ball or Sometimes even going for a run if you have any that are like my huskies and cattle dogs, that energy never dies.
“Catie is the best. She took very good care of our dogs while we wee away in Colorado. Will come at the last minute and meet any request. Will definitely be using her again in the future. Highly recommend for any out of town trips or long days at the office.”

“So glad to have found MaryKate. I have a dog with high anxiety and it’s difficult to get away. He was completely comfortable with her, and I had a great stress-free weekend away. Oh, and two senior cats. No problem.”

“My wife and I had the opportunity to take a 3 1/2 week trip out of the country. We weren’t sure what to do with our fur babies because it was too long to put either of them in a kennel. We looked at Rover‘s website and found Jenna who agreed to watch our fur babies in our home for the duration of our trip. Our beagle is a rescue who has a number of special needs due to abuse as a puppy. Jenna did a wonderful job of watching both our beagle and our kitty cat for the time we were gone. It’s obvious Jenna loves animals and we will certainly book her again if we ever need to leave town for an extended period. We highly recommend Jenna as that only a pet sitter, but a house sitter as well.”

“Veronica an outstanding house sitter for us and our 3 goldens. She took great care of our home and "kids" while we were away with great communication and check ins all the way. She left our home as she had found it, and I will not hesitate to hire her again.”

“Patricia has been watching my babies off and on before she joined Rover. now it’s good to have a platform to schedule the times! I must say one of my dogs love her more than me hahaha. She treats them like her own babies! Given I have two large dogs it’s nice she has a huge yard for them To run around in and they feel like she’s their second mom. Could not say enough nice things about her and how happy my dogs are with her. I think they have so much fun they don’t want to come home 😔. 5 stars!”

“He sent daily photo updates and always responded quickly about the dogs. They seemed happy and like themselves when I came back , which is a great sign since one of my dogs doesn’t do well with change. Highly recommend and will book again when needed.”

Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of August 2026, there are 2,655 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Nelson. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Nelson walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Nelson maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Nelson choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Nelson. On Rover:
- 96% of sitters can help with special care needs

- 98% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
