Stevie stayed in my home with Miley and Parker for four days and took incredible care of both of them. She made sure they received all of their medications, kept me updated with messages and photos, and gave them so much love and attention. I came home to two happy, relaxed dogs and a house that was just as I left it. Knowing they were so well cared for gave me complete peace of mind while I was away. I'll be booking Stevie every chance I get... so get in line! 😊

Liz was absolutely wonderful with our newly adopted dog. She was so patient, kind, and clearly experienced in working with dogs who are still adjusting to a new home. She took him on long walks, gave him lots of attention, and treated him like her own. We’re so grateful to have found Liz and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy and compassionate pet sitter!

My wife and I had the opportunity to take a 3 1/2 week trip out of the country. We weren’t sure what to do with our fur babies because it was too long to put either of them in a kennel. We looked at Rover‘s website and found Jenna who agreed to watch our fur babies in our home for the duration of our trip. Our beagle is a rescue who has a number of special needs due to abuse as a puppy. Jenna did a wonderful job of watching both our beagle and our kitty cat for the time we were gone. It’s obvious Jenna loves animals and we will certainly book her again if we ever need to leave town for an extended period. We highly recommend Jenna as that only a pet sitter, but a house sitter as well.

Patricia has been watching my babies off and on before she joined Rover. now it’s good to have a platform to schedule the times! I must say one of my dogs love her more than me hahaha. She treats them like her own babies! Given I have two large dogs it’s nice she has a huge yard for them To run around in and they feel like she’s their second mom. Could not say enough nice things about her and how happy my dogs are with her. I think they have so much fun they don’t want to come home 😔. 5 stars!

Avary did an amazing job watching my for baby and chickens for the weekend. They were well taken care of and the house was left the way I left it. My only complaint is I wish she sent me more pictures. Definitely will book again.

About: I had three miniature dachshunds until they all eventually passed away from old age. I treated them as if they were children. I am very in tune with an animal’s needs and emotions. Animals that I have never met before, usually take to me right away. When I cared for my father-in-law’s dog for two weeks, he did not want to return home with him….lol. I hate to see any animal suffer or be in danger. I go as far to remove turtles from the road so that they do not get hit and I have tried to save numerous injured birds in the wild. Animals, especially, dogs, provide so much unconditional love. I am a retired law enforcement officer. Thus, I have a lot of availability. I am available Sunday-Saturday 24 hours as long as I am provided at least a short notice. I have a fenced in back yard that I always ensure is securely locked at all times. I would pet proof home ensure no medications or cleaning products, etc are accessible to pets. Also, I would only feed what the owner wanted the pet to be fed.

Kristen is the best! She sat for ourGreat Danes and took care of them like they were her own! The house was cleaner when I got home than when we left. This was the first time we got to go away and not stress about our pups! She sent pictures, videos, and checked in with us every day. Thank you Kristen!!

This was my first time leaving my babies Maggie and Milo for a trip and I was absolutely terrified of it. I was very worried about Maggie in particular because she has separation anxiety and doesn’t warm up to strangers. When Elizabeth saw that Maggie wouldn’t eat whatsoever, she went to the store and bought some food that helped with her appetite. She even took Milo to the vet since nobody else could take him and began administering his meds. I struck gold with Elizabeth who went above and beyond to gain their trust and take care of them. She also did all she could to reassure me and has won my trust. She took such good care of my dogs and I highly recommend her. Definitely will be having her dog sit my babies again when necessary!

Kimberlee was an excellent sitter for our two dogs. One of our dogs is very anxious and takes a long time to warm up to people, but she quickly warmed up to Kimberlee. Kimberlee kept our house tidy and even watered our plants. We would definitely book with Kimberlee again.

Took great care of our elderly corgi who is still recovering from fractured leg. Tegan recognized her from last house sitting job and did not bark at her. Our dog likes her so much she had to say goodbye when Caroline left. I received great pictures which reassured me that everything was fine. I would hire her again and recommend her

She went above and beyond with things around the house, inside and out. Watered plants, filled feeders, laundry etc. She was always reachable and sent pictures. I am pretty particular with who I choose to watch our pets and Suzanne exceeded my expectations. ❤️ Thank you, Suzanne!!

Aleena was great for our active foster dog, Dash. She took him on regular hikes and long walks while we were gone, which is what he really needed. She communicated with us regularly and sent lots of photos. Dash really enjoyed his time with her. He's also a reactive dog, which can be difficult for some people to handle, but Aleena wasn't phased by this and made sure he and other dogs were safe while in her care.

I am new to hiring a dog sitter to care for my sweet Ginger. However, I believe I have found my forever pet sitter. Thank you Ashley for sending me pictures of Ginger while I was away. It really put me at ease. Folks, Ashley made me feel is comfortable in leaving Ginger in her care. I love the fact that Ashley came over before my trip to meet and spend some time with Ginger. Also Ashley's price to watch and care for Ginger was so reasonable! I look forward to planning my next trip knowing Ashley is there for Ginger.

FAQs for House Sitting - Big Canoe

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of August 2026, there are 1,451 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Big Canoe. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Big Canoe walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Big Canoe maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Big Canoe choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Big Canoe. On Rover:

  • 96% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 96% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
