“Lexi is wonderful with my pups! I’ve used her before and have been consistently pleased. My dogs love her, even my shy, avoidant little girl pup. Lexi is friendly, thoughtful, considerate, and very easy to work with. She is thorough and asks questions/makes suggestions about things I wish I had thought of!”

“Tonya took excellent care of our two elderly dogs. I think they barely missed us when we were gone because they got all of the pets and cuddles they could ask for. She took excellent care of the house and handled our excessive amount of deliveries with care. She kept us regularly updated with status updates and photos. Highly recommend.”

“Toni came and stayed at our house and watched our pup Manny. She was wonderful! We got daily updates and pictures. She took great care of Manny and our home! We highly recommend her! Thanks Toni!”

“My dog loved Anna! Anna took my dog on walks. She sent me photos showing their activities. She was even willing to sleep with my pup to calm her at night. I would definitely have her babysit my pooch again.”

“Alison and her little one Cassidy were perfect caregivers for my Lily. They stayed at my home and made sure she went on plenty of walks, and kept up with her relentless energy playing with toys. I was provided with plenty of photos and updates while I was away. Couldn’t be more thankful for the help over the holiday while I was gone.”

“Stephanie was absolutely awesome!! We received daily pics and communications and it was more than obvious that she totally clicked into our two kitties and each of their personalities. She made being away from our kitties a lot less stressful. We got home to two very happy, calm kitties and an amazingly clean home!! She really deserves 10 stars! Thank you so much Stephanie ?”

“Emma did an absolutely fabulous job taking care of all our animals. She is kind, caring and a professional. It was our first time using rover and she made it so easy and sent us pictures of our pets who always looked happy!”

“Jessica did a great job with our dog and cats! They were all acting differently due to us not being there so they're just not used to other people. She sent plenty of updates & pics. Will certainly use her when we can!”

“Jennifer took excellent care of our dog, cats, and home while we were gone. She kept us updated with messages and pictures the whole time. We felt very comfortable leaving our fur babies in her care.”

“Jordan watched our fur babies in our home for 11 days. She did an amazing job. The babies were well taken care of as was our home. She returned the home to ready status by doing the bed laundry and leaving no trace. But, the most important was the care and love our wee ones received. I can tell they took to her and were comfortable and at peace while we were away. Knowing that brought great comfort. Thank you Jordan. We really appreciate you.”

“Heather was wonderful with our pets while we were away. She stayed overnight with them and was around a lot during the day. She sent us daily photos and check ins so we were never out of the loop. She pulled in some packages for us that we had delivered as well. The house was just as we left it when we returned. We would definitely hire her again. Thanks Heather!”

“Jann took great care of my 4 kitties and my house while I was away. She has a friendly and calm manner that attracted one of my shy cats out of hiding. I highly recommend her!”

“Nicole was amazing, our dogs loved her. We will definitely be using her again when she is in town! We came home to happy puppies and a clean house, she even put the bedding she used in the washing machine! Definitely would recommend!!!”

“Serenity is a wonderful communicator who made us feel at ease, house sitting and taking care of our furry ones! She was very kind and even took time and energy to leave the house better than she found it! I hope to have many more bookings with Serenity in the future!”

“It’s never easy having someone new come into your home and take care of your fur babies and your home, so we trusted in the reviews of Cynthia and we were not disappointed! Cynthia was very communicative and shared updates with photos every day of our 2 Ragdoll cats and 2 Golden Retrievers. She took our dogs on walks everyday which they love. She took very good care of our home and left it nice and clean. We would be happy to hire Cynthia again to care for our pets and our home!”

“Jalen was wonderful, she spent some time with us prior to leaving. Paid great attention to our dog and sent pictures. The house was spotless, she was great. I look forward to using her again.”

“Crystal was fantastic with our Tuco and he was so happy in his update pictures. This was our first time leaving him in the care of someone else and Crystal was perfect. We can tell Tuco already misses his friends and we will absolutely book Crystal again!”

“Kayln watched our cat, Loaf, for a week with just short notice. She came by prior to us leaving town for a meet and greet, and we got great pictures everyday and came home to a happy cat and a clean house, maybe even cleaner than we left it! I’d highly recommend her to anyone looking for pet sitting.”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Machias
Kristen did a phenomenal job taking care of my Caoimhe while I was away. I had planned my trip before I got my pup, and she worked with my crazy flight times. My family and I enjoyed all the pictures while I was away. I’ll definitely reach out to Kristen if I need a pet sitter while away again.

Lexi has been wonderful! She has stayed in our home twice without any issues and took great care of our girl. She is always prompt, communicates well, asks questions when needed, and sends daily pictures and updates. We especially appreciated her administering eye drops to our Frenchie with care and attention. We feel completely comfortable leaving our home and pup in Lexi’s care and highly recommend her!

Alison and Cassidy were beyond amazing and the best sitters I’ve used from Rover yet. You can tell Alison truly cares so much about what she does and I never felt anxiety during my trip away from my babies. She not only took great care of my fur babies, but I came back to my garden so alive and beautiful. Our home was cleaner than we had left it and we are just so impressed with everything Alison did for us while we were away. We hope we can book her again for all our future trips!

Deana gave my reactive dog a chance back when I told her his challenging history. She started walking him with no issues. He loved her! At some point, she couldn’t walk him anymore, but I’ve called upon her several times for dog sits. The more recent one went longer than anticipated due to some travel delays and she was able to move things around to accommodate. I feel very fortunate that she was able to be flexible with that, because I know she’s usually pretty booked up. She went above and beyond and I’m very grateful for her professionalism and willingness to look after our complicated dog. Definitely would recommend!

I think we were Grace's first customer on Rover and she did a great job housesitting and taking care of our boys. She sent updates and photos each day and was very good about communicating with us if she had to leave the house. We will be using her again in the future.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Machias walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Machias maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Machias choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Machias. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 94% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
