“i made a mistake and forgot to leave the key to my house - Taylor problem solved and did all she could to figure it out with me - she also picked up treats for manuel 10/10”

“Ellen took wonderful care of our cat Seven while my husband and I were out of town for several days. She sent detailed updates daily with photos, made sure to give Seven lots of playtime with his favorite toys, and kept our home in spotless condition as well. I highly recommend her if you're looking for a responsible, communicative sitter who loves cats!”

About: I had a dog in my family for around 10 years. He was really the best. It was so fun to watch him grow up and take care of him through it all. I absolutely adore animals and love to give them attention, play with them and learn with them. I work full time but have different hours and sometimes will be available in the mornings, sometimes the middle of the day, and sometimes weekends! I will always have time for animals. I provide a safe and comforting environment for dogs and humans alike. I am very considerate and observant of everything around me so I will always make sure everyone is safe and having a great time with everything they need. I am very respectful of people’s space and always make sure to leave things the way I found them.
About: I have had a dog in my family from the moment I was born. They truly are family and I believe a house doesn’t feel like a home without a pet. I have been a stay at home mom since 2019 spending most of my time at home caring for my 3 daughters, 2 dogs and my girls cat. We have a recently built new home and a large partial of land in the country perfect for outdoor playing and walks. If your fur baby stays with me I promise that they will be cared for like family themselves. I am home most of the day so they won’t be alone long, cuddles are definitely welcomed and I will respect all rules that you have for your pet! I am looking forward to my home becoming your furbabies beloved vacation spot. If you would like to set up a play date for your pet to meet me and my pets before booking that is welcome but not mandatory..whatever makes you feel more comfortable. Any questions before their stay or check ins during their stay are always welcome as well! 😊 I stay at home with my 3 year old daughter and drive my 4 & 5 year old to school every day. Other than that your pet will not be left alone for long. I spend most of my time at home so they will have plenty of attention and love! My pets are like my children before having children. They are allowed to snuggle on the couch and in bed. When I leave the house they are crate trained. I will respect your wishes and listen to what suits your pets lifestyle best. I have plenty of room at my house for your pets own crate or dog bed. Whatever will make them feel most at home I will do!

About: I've been taking care of all my friends' pets for the last 2 years since I moved to the Hudson Valley! I'm usually their first call when they're in need of a pet sitter and they're gone on vacation. I love dogs (especially lap dogs!) and although I'm allergic to cats (except hypoallergenic breeds) they're my kryptonite. So cute! Because I work freelance for half the week, I have a bit of flexibility for drop-ins! I'm responsible, attentive, respectful, and communicative! I give the so much love, and play time. I love taking long walks around the neighborhood, or on a short trail. But, I'm also equally excited to cuddle up next to a lap dog cutie! Can't wait to play your fur babes! PS: I've cried at the sight of a beautiful dog bc I just love em' so much! <3 I'm quite open during the week because I am a freelance social media manager & creative consultant. So, I can fit walks into my schedule no bigggie! And, if you need someone to house-sit, I just need wifi and my laptop. ◡̈ We'll be all set! I'm responsible, attentive, respectful, and communicative! I give them so much love, and play time. I love taking long walks around the neighborhood, or on a short trail. But, I'm also equally excited to cuddle up next to a lap dog cutie! Just let me know if they're more of a couch potato or a walker, and I can prepare for both! <3

About: I offer drop-in visits, dog walking, and overnight house sitting for cats or dogs, and I’m happy to provide daily exercise, playtime, feeding, and medication support as needed. Whether your pet loves long walks, quiet companionship, or consistent routines, I tailor my care to fit their needs and personality. I grew up with mid-size dogs and frequently watched smaller dogs for family friends in Pittsburgh. After moving upstate, I became a devoted cat dad to my black cat, Lola, for four years. Since then, I’ve cared for cats of all ages, including seniors with specific feeding and medication schedules. I'm attentive and responsive to every animal’s unique rhythm. I currently work remotely as a freelancer, which gives me the flexibility to drop in or house-sit for quality time with your pets during the day. I enjoy staying active and love being outdoors—so your dog will always get a good walk (and a happy walking buddy!). For overnight stays, I treat every home and pet with the respect and care I’d want for my own. I pride myself on being responsible, respectful, and kind—treating every home and animal as if my own. As a freelancer who works remotely, I have a flexible schedule that lets me give your pets the attention they deserve. I’m also available for house sitting and overnights provided there's stable wifi. I am a trustworthy house sitter/ walker who priotizes clear communication on expectations and house standards. I do not offer pet care from my own home.

I am an Occupational Therapist in a school district full time and love to farm and bicycle during my off time. I’ve done house sitting and dog sitting previously and enjoyed the work. I wanted to get back into dog sitting and pet sitting to assist in getting a new car and to get to spend time with pets! I have always been obsessed with dogs! I show that through meeting as many as I can when out in the community :). I am active person, so long walks and playing is something I can provide. I am great with a schedule and specific requests.
“Elizabeth saved me in a pinch when I couldn't get home--she came over and walked my dog, whom she'd never laid eyes on, and brought her cute daughters to give her a snuggle. Plus sent me a picture of the scene, with my happy dog soaking up the attention. Thanks again!”

“Alicia was very responsible, responsive and overarching a pleasure to working with! I have one big dog with rear legs problems and other one with puppy personality. Alicia has handled both dogs very well. Highly recommended her to anyone!”
“We just got home after being away from home for 14 days. We missed our kitties but were very confident in the care and love they were receiving! Janice and Noah are the best, time and time again.”

I usually work shifts under 8 hours, so with good communication I would be thrilled to come up with a plan that will suit you and your pet(s). Candice was wonderful! She was very attentive and loving with my three cats, She was very efficient and prompt when attending to their needs. Candice also spent quality time playing with them during each visit. I also greatly appreciated the prompt, detailed feedback given to me after each visit.Overall, a great experience!

Sophie took such excellent care of our two cats while my husband and I went on vacation! She is warm, attentive, communicative, and immediately made us feel at ease. Not only did she go above and beyond to care for the cats, but she also took great care of the house while we were away, keeping the kitchen and litter box sparkling clean and even keeping an eye out for package deliveries! Highly highly recommend! <3

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.
Before booking, confirm:
- the timing, length, and frequency of visits;
- the care instructions the sitter should follow;
- which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
- how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.
Not every sitter offers the same services, availability, or booking options. Review their profile and discuss the care you need through Rover before booking each service.
If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.
The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the , which provides up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.
Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.
During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first .
sitters on Rover set their own , which you can find on their profile under their contact information. Sitters may set a same-day, one-, three-, or seven-day cancellation policy. Cancelling within your sitter’s cancellation policy qualifies you for a full refund.
Same-day cancellations for recurring services, which include walks, drop-ins, and day care, follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for pet boarding and house sitting, if you cancel after 12 pm on the applicable cancellation deadline, you’ll receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for any remaining days.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means you will get a full refund and our support team will work with you to find a replacement sitter.
