“As always, I truly appreciate Jenna. I don't know what we'd do without her!! My pets are always thrilled when she arrives which is a complete 180 from when I boarded the dog (she would tremble and cower at the boarding place and also go on hunger strikes). Now she couldn't wag her whole butt harder! Jenna's always great with communication, respecting our home while we're away, ensuring everything gets done for all the animals (walks, love, feeding, etc.), and sending photos so I know they're happy and healthy. I can't imagine going away any other way than having Jenna staying here with our animals while we're gone. Thank you!!!”

“Hannah was absolutely incredible! She took amazing care of our kitties and went above and beyond to make sure they were well cared for. She sent us lots of pictures throughout the day, which we truly appreciated as self-proclaimed crazy cat parents! Knowing they were in such great hands gave us complete peace of mind while we were away. We also had a last-minute schedule change and Hannah was incredibly accommodating and so kind throughout the process. We’ll definitely be booking with her again in the future. Thank you so much, Hannah! 💖”

About: Hi! I am 32 years old and I have been a groomer for 14 years. I owned my own grooming salon and sold the business to return back to college. I am Fear Free and AKC SAFE groomer certified which means I know how to handle animals safely and trained in animal behavior. I would love the opportunity to take care of your babies promising you they will be safe and loved! ❤️ I attend college online at ECU so I am available any day or time. I do need a few hours a day to spend doing my school work, which won’t affect drop ins or walks, but if I’m house sitting I would do this work from your home (: I understand that every dog is different so I am very flexible on what kind of care you need for your pet. If you want a stroller walk for senior pets or a run for an active dog or if you simply just want me to play fetch in the house. You know what your babies need the best!
About: I've had my own dogs and have taken care of other dogs for many years - puppies & dogs of all ages and personalities. I can take care of your dog for a short visit or an extended period. I'm retired and I have a flexible schedule and plenty of time to spend with your dog(s). If they are active, I can also run with them. I take dogs on lots of long walks, plus playtime and cuddling. I have plenty of room in a dog friendly house with covered furniture. I have a crate big enough for a 50 lb dog if your dog is used to a crate for naps, etc.
“Lauren is amazing! She took care of our two cats - Raja & Carmela - and house sat for a week while we were on a trip. She provided thorough updates throughout the day, and we are so grateful for the love and care she provided to our two cats. Thank You so much Lauren!”

About: Hi, my name is Sarah -- I am 28 and grew up in Virginia with dogs and horses my whole life, and as such, have been sitting for friends' and family's animals (and kids!) since high school. Upon leaving Virginia, I missed having pets of my own, so always love the opportunity to take care of others' fur friends when they need. I work fully remotely, so while I cannot board at my place, I am easily able to stay at yours for in-house pet sitting, as well as come for as many drop-ins, or take your dog(s) out for as many walks as they want, throughout the day! I have experience watching all sizes of dogs, and up to as many as four (large!) dogs of all ages (plus some cats) at once, so I am likely to be comfortable with whatever combination you have in your home! I work fully remotely, so can pretty much make any pet care routine work into my schedule, dependent on your needs for your fur friends! I adapt to any set of needs or circumstances since each dog is different and has their own likes and dislikes, especially when it comes to their parents being away or interacting with new people.
About: Loved dogs my whole life and got my first one at age 24- five years ago, enjoy taking my dog to the beach and on walks near water. He is pretty high energy so I’m very accustomed to dogs that need constant stimulation and love :) I work remotely 8-5 Monday thru Friday but have lunch breaks and other breaks throughout the day to help let out or walk pets nearby or stay overnight when needed. I have weekend availability as well. I have a fenced backyard and typically walk my dog twice a day and let him run on beach in evenings while playing fetch in the waves. I’ve watched dogs aged 7 weeks old to 15 years old and comfortable with all ages in between :)
“We are visiting from out of state and upon arrival our pup had a seizure. We were afraid to leave him alone. Caley was a lifesaver. Cooper took to her immediately and we felt very comfortable while we were away from home. We were able to celebrate our son's birthday and engagement with the family. We highly recommend Caley!!”
About: I work at the DCAS so I’m around animals all day. I’ve also grown up in a house hold with cats and dogs my whole life. i currently have a job, i’m available after 5pm for most of the week depending on my schedule. rotating weekends i’m available after 2pm. i have 6 animals myself. depending on where you’re located i have an hour lunch break in the middle of the day. when i cat sat for my neighbors id feed them twice a day and scoop they’re litter box once a day. same thing with at home, the dogs same thing feed them twice a day and 2 walks and a bonus potty break.
“I would definitely have Tara take care of our dog again. She kept us well informed of how our dog was behaving and thankfully our dog was good! Our dog seemed very happy and content when we arrived Home which made us think she had a good time with Tara! The house was neat and tidy also. I would certainly recommend her services.”

“Our dog is territorial and over protective. Brandi was able to come in and make a great connection, love on our pup, and take care of her as well, if not better, than we would have! She is the best!”

About: Daytime and overnight sitting available. Dogs will not only be cared about but cared for. They will be walked and played with, fed and stayed with. I have wiener dogs who are very social so it includes a socializing experience. I am experienced with deaf/ blind doggos and doggos with insulin shots. I am comfortable helping those with medical needs and most doggo breeds . Only requirement is no aggression towards other animals. I enjoy playing and getting to know your dog, dogs have different personalities and different interests. If your dog is a couch potato we have Netflix, if your dog enjoys long walks on the beach we have a near by park that we walk to, and for those who are more timid and scared we have plenty of places to cover up and burrow in.
“Rose did an amazing job! She is very loving and very easy-going! And helped us with a last-minute all day long taking care of puppies and dogs day! She’s very kind and the dogs loved her! Thank you so much!”

“If you're looking for someone to love, care for and spoil your pet, look no further. Cheri is amazing. She will be our first call anytime we plan our vacations. She is kind, keeps the house spotless (cleaner than when we left!), great communicator and spoiled our dog with lots of walks and playtime! I think he was sad to see her go. I cannot recommend her enough.”

Julie was fantastic! We were Parents of the Bride for this wonderful Destination wedding. Julie did a fantastic job and worked around our crazy schedule for the wedding day which was quite long. We had the hotel room next to the venue to make life easy. She took phenomenal care of Shamrock ☘️ and was very good with her. Let us know everything she did and how she was. Never had any worries or issues along the way and felt very at ease the while time she was cared for. Appreciate everything she did to make it a very easy day for us. Thank You Julie!!! ☘️☘️

In town for wedding and needed an evening sitter. Hannah was awesome with our older dog and totally understood her even though they only just met. Would definitely have her watch our dog again if needed. Thank you for taking care of her so we can have fun at the wedding events scheduled.

Haley thanks so much for your patience and kindness shown toward Case. Karen and i appreciated your approach with Case, your understanding of his needs and the pics w updates you sent while we were out. We would most definitely look forward to your assistance in our future needs!

Zach was absolutely great. My family and I went to the Outer Banks this past week. I have 2 dogs, my sister has 2 dogs and my other sister has 1 dog. We all traveled together and rented a home in Duck. It was one of our best vacations, THANKS TO ZACH. He came 2 nights that week and set with all 5 dogs. He sent me pics of all them. I thought I would be very nervous leaving my 2, but I wasn’t at all. If anyone is visiting the Outer Banks and needs a dog sitter reach out to Zach he will take excellent care of your furbabies. Zach if your ever in Morgantown WV look me up. Thank you again Zach for taking such good care of my babies.

This was the first time Case was left with a sitter and it was a success in our eyes. Lauren was patient enough to understand that Case needed some space to feel comfortable and she sent several updates and photos to us to assure us that Case was ok. Lauren allowed us to relax and enjoy our evening out under the stars at Festival Park ! Thank you Lauren!! We will def call upon you again.

Carmen was a joy to work with and Koa was so well cared for. Carmen communicated with me and sent photos which helped me relax while I was away. The house was left in perfect condition and she went above and beyond to make sure everything was welcoming when i returned. Most importantly, my dog was happy and thats what matters most.
Shelley was fabulous with our 9.5 year-old Labradoodle Tucker - staying at our home with him for days, three. Tucker had never previously stayed with a stranger, so it was important for us to a compatible fit. Her calm demeanor was exactly what he needed. We’d use her services again without hesitation.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Kill Devil Hills walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Kill Devil Hills maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Kill Devil Hills choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
