“Charissa and Alex have been taking care of our dog Leni for the past year. They do an incredible job and Leni always has the best time! She is always well taken care of and we are continuously updated on who she is playing with and what she is learning. We would never consider taking Leni anywhere else! It is the best feeling knowing that when we go on vacation and can’t take Leni with us, she’s going on her own little vacation to Charissa and Alex’s. I do not worry about her for a second! I cannot say enough good things. They are amazing people who truly love animals and we are so lucky we found them as pup-sitters!”

About: I've been taking care of animals of all kinds since I was 12! I started volunteering early with a local humane society and have been active in rescues ever since. I have also fostered dogs from two months-10 years old, including medical fosters, so I'm comfortable giving pets medicine if need be. I currently work at UVA in their communications office, where I have a lot of flexibility, especially on Thursdays and Fridays when I work remotely. I'm available most weekends and many holidays! I live in a shared house with a unfenced backyard and a couple of roommates, both of whom love dogs! There's a train near me that I enjoy walking dogs on if they are OK with other people/dogs. Otherwise, I take dogs on walks once or twice daily.

“Reuben took good care of my large one year old Great Pyrenees mix who is extremely rambunctious (to put it mildly). After 10 days with Rueben he learned to walk on leash and play nicely with Rueben’s dog Tyson. (It’s now up to me to maintain the good behaviors he learned). Rueben’s toolkit for dog training includes a prong collar, which I agreed to let him try with some trepidation. Rueben used it sparingly and with restraint, and Ixy seemed to respond well. Rueben was also very flexible with shortening and then extending the dates of stay so I could handle a medical emergency. He is prompt to respond to queries about how your pet is doing. I plan to board my dog there again.”

“I had a great experience with Debbie and Pete. This was my first time using Dog Vacay. Debbie and Pete have a great place. Their house and yard are both clean and perfectly set-up to care for their five small show dogs. They have a large fenced in yard (between half an acre and an acre). This allows the dogs to run around and play. The yard has a small kids pool for the dogs to get wet and have a good time. The dogs are also allowed inside. Debbie and Pete sent me a text with my dog sleeping on their couch. They also went out of their way to drop my dog in Charlottesville on their way to work to save me time on my return trip. Very sweet couple and I would highly recommend using them if you are going to be in the Charlottesville area.”

My border collier mix dog is energetic and can be a handful for others to manage, but she was well-cared for and seemed happy over the 5-day stay with them. They truly enjoy dogs and it definitely shows in the level of care, consideration, and photos provided during the visit. Very responsive and communicative, couldn't ask for more in that area. Also, it's worth noting that I'd initially booked a longer boarding stay and then had to reschedule the dates right before the deadline - but they were incredibly gracious and understanding of the situation.
