“Mike took good care of our two older dogs. They were happy and healthy apon our 5 day return and the house was great as we left it. He got packages from outside that werent supose to be delivered so that was great too. He showed up on time and stayed until our agreed upon touch down of flight very late the last night. Knowing he lives in the town we do also is nice. We will definitely get him to stay again if he's free next time we need a sitter. He even fixed our tv remote/sound bar connectivity issues. Thanks Mike! Dana”

She was so thoughtful in her attention to detail, and checked in with us multiple times over the weekend to let us know how things were going - our pup was very happy with her. She was terrific! We’d book her again in the future!”

About: What sets me apart is the genuine care and attention I give every pet. I understand that every dog and cat has their own personality, routine, and comfort level, and I take the time to get to know them. I’m patient, dependable, and committed to making your pet feel safe, loved, and right at home. I also believe in keeping pet parents informed, so you can enjoy peace of mind while you’re away. I’m able to provide regular care, playtime, walks, and cuddles while keeping their routines as consistent as possible. About: Hello! My name is Jennell and I am an energetic, kind, and fun person. I live an active lifestyle and enjoy the outdoors. I have a big heart for animals, experience with various types of animals, and my own fur baby at home, an indoor male cat. I've always had pets in my home, my current cat, and previous dogs, birds, fish, hamster, frogs, and snakes. I care for any other animals as I would want mine cared for. I've pet sat many times, different animals for different people. I work during the week but have breaks throughout my day and my workplace is down the street from my house only 2 minutes away. My weekends are free and spent at home with my fur baby or in the great outdoors. I have a large, fenced grass yard area to relax in and huge open field on my property to play fetch. I love going hiking and to the beach and have a car to transport animals in if you would like them to go on adventures too. Extra scratches and cuddles will also be included! I work during the week, but am available in the morning, mid-day, and evening to come home or go to your house to visit before or after work and during my breaks. I am available full day on the weekends. I care for pets with love and kindness. I will treat them as I would want mine to be treated. I am a very genuine person and love animals.

About: I have been caring for my 13 year old dog, Molly, for 11 years. I am also an active volunteer at the county animal shelter, working with dogs (1,000+ hours) and cats (400+ hours). I have a special place in my heart for dogs with behavioral and medical needs, and working with them at the shelter has taught me patience and skills that help to make the animals more comfortable. I also have training in puppy care, senior dog care, walking leash-sensitive dogs, and caring for injured animals. The time I get to spend with dogs is the most fun I have doing anything, and I take a lot of pride in caring for them with the appropriate level of attention and patience they need. I work remotely and have a flexible schedule, so I am available to walk and care dogs at a variety of hours. The length of walks is up to you and your dog-- I am happy to do short walks or longer outings depending on what you need! I am happy to refer you to references (animal shelter staff and volunteers) who can attest to my dog-handling skills and my ability to work with dogs from a variety of backgrounds. The safety of your pet and your home always come first, and I am very comfortable taking any steps needed to ensure that everything goes smoothly.

About: My dogs have passed and at this stage in our lives we travel to visit our children and grandchildren and so it's not reasonable for us to have our own dogs anymore. Instead when we're home we Foster dogs, we have fostered over 100 dogs for Monterey Bay Lab rescue. And we watch dogs for our friends. Rover gives us an opportunity to watch dogs for you and let you come to the Monterey peninsula or go camping or to family events or wherever you need to to go knowing that your dog is in our home and being loved completely. A home away from home for your dog. I promise. I work from home with a laptop on my lap sitting on a couch. All the dogs always love to sit next to me and snuggle and sleep and they love the fact that that's just what I do all day. They wander out to our little backyard area because we keep the door wide open and it's right next to the couch. They can bring their own toys but we also have a ton of toys. If you're from out of town, you can bring your dog to Carmel and go to the beach and Carmel Beach is the best for dogs. And then you can drop your dog off with me and you can go to the Monterey Bay aquarium or go out to dinner or do whatever you want. I'm a professor at our local University, my husband travels for business so he's gone a lot. I would love to have your dogs as companions during the days or nights. At our house dogs can go on the couches, they can sleep on the bed, they pretty much have the going to Grandma's house experience. I don't mix and match dogs unless I've watched them for a long time and I know they're all going to get along together. I like to just have one at a time or if two come in from a family, two is fine. Even three is okay if they're coming from the same family and they all like each other. We do have a dog park about a half a block away so if the dog is one that likes dog parks, we can do that. I will say from my fostering experience for the last 16 years, dogs normally do great when they meet someone who is just going to love them unconditionally. It's funny because the rescue organization gives me the dogs that need quiet and safe, loving and space to just decompress. So if your dog likes to just chill and you want to go, have a great adventure on your own and know that your baby is safe. I am definitely the pet sitter for you I teach online so I'm very rarely out of the house. I'm usually sitting on my couch with my laptop. I have a nice fenced-in back yard / patio area and I leave the door wide open to the back all the time, And the door is literally 2 ft from the couch. The dogs can come and go safely. I just love to have a dog snuggling up with me on the couch while I'm working. My husband teases me that we can't walk anywhere without me stopping and petting and talking and scratching every dog I see. I have a fenced in small backyard. I leave the door open between my living room and the backyard so the dogs can come and go. Some dogs love to just lay in the sun on the back pavers other dogs just go out to go to the bathroom while other dogs won't go out unless I go out and sit with them. It's very very safe

“Kivi was amazing with my sweet dog Nala. This was my first time asking Kivi to house sit, and she truly went above and beyond. Not only did she take Nala on great walks at the beach, but she hung out with her in her garden, sent me lots of pictures, and did all the things that Nala loves. I’m always a little nervous leaving my baby behind, but for a second I wondered if she was having more fun with me being away haha. I can tell Kivi is a genuine animal-loved, and she had a very kind and trustworthy nature. What more can you ask out of a house sitting experience?”

FAQs for House Sitting - Chittenden

Frequently asked questions about Rover

Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Chittenden walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Chittenden maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Chittenden choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee, which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page.

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.

Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.

During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first Meet & Greet.

sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their contact information. Sitters may set a same-day, one-, three-, or seven-day cancellation policy. Cancelling within your sitter’s cancellation policy qualifies you for a full refund.

Same-day cancellations for recurring services, which include walks, drop-ins, and day care, follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for pet boarding and house sitting, if you cancel after 12 pm on the applicable cancellation deadline, you’ll receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for any remaining days.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means you will get a full refund and our support team will work with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
