Kristen, is outstanding. She is an outstanding listener and very customer oriented regarding what we told her when we first mt her at our consult. Her communications during the stay are also great. She sent us many photos of our dog, Spud, either eating, walking or just enjoying himself! He was very happy and calm when we arrived home, which is the hallmark of an excellent pet sitter. That is that your pet is content, happy, well cared for and SAFE. 5 Star all the way. Took excellent care of our our house also. Thank you Kristin.

Samantha was a joy! My dogs now have a new best friend! I am very picky about who stays with my pups, as they mean the world to me but Samantha spoiled them more than me! She sent pictures every day of the great adventures they had with her… She went way above what we expect and I really can’t say enough good things about Samantha!

I highly recommend Gabrielle! My Aussiedoodle, Ozzie, loves her. He’s 13, diabetic (2 shots/day), and is going blind. She is so kind to him and follows his daily regime to a tee. Gabrielle has kept Ozzie for an afternoon and overnight, too. We’ll definitely reach out to her again.

I appreciated Chasydi taking the time to visit my dog several times while we were away. We have an anxious puppy, and Chasydi was careful not to push her too much, but to let her get familiar with her. We also appreciated Chasydi keeping the house neat during her stay and during her in-and-out visits. She shared photos and reassured us that Ember was okay.

Penelope was super sweet and very easy to interact with at our introduction. She was very understanding of each of our dog’s temperaments and handled them accordingly. Her communication was great and I was always able to get a response/update from her in a timely manner. Penelope stayed at our home and treated it well, making sure to clean up after herself and the pups! We trust her to take care of our babies and will definitely use her again in the future.

About: I’ve taken care of dogs and cats of my own ever since I was a kid. I love animals and having any excuse to bond with them. I currently have a dachshund named Tucker who is 7 years old and I have a lot of experience working with other people’s pets as a sitter. I am currently focusing on starting my real estate career so my availability may fluctuate but stay mainly consistent throughout my weekly routine. I will be mostly available during late morning to later hours I do not offer pet care in my own hone. I provide care for pets at client homes only. I believe pets should be surrounded in an environment they’re used to and familiar with.

About: I’ve been around animals for most of my life and truly love caring for them. I’ve worked with horses since I was 8 years old and have cared for dogs since I was 16. I’m experienced with animals of different sizes, personalities, and energy levels, and I always make sure pets feel safe, comfortable, and loved while in my care. Whether it’s walks, playtime, feeding, or just giving extra attention and affection, I treat every pet like family! I currently work part-time, which gives me plenty of flexibility for pet care. I’m available most weekdays and have open availability on many weekends. I love spending time with animals, making sure they get attention, exercise, and lots of care while you’re away. I provide a safe, loving, and calm environment for every pet in my care. I’m experienced with feeding schedules, walks, playtime, crating if needed, and giving pets lots of attention and comfort. I also make sure pets stay on their normal routine so they feel safe and stress-free while their owners are away.

One of the truly great dog care takers out there. She was so attentive and made our dogs feel so loved! We have one dog who has severe allergies and needs daily medications, and another who is VERY shy. Not only did Elise care for them as if they were her own, she got our shy girl out of her shell. This is truly a feat that not very many people have been able to do. We were blown away with her daily updates and the amount of detail they included. If you are looking for someone to treat your dogs like family, and take all the stress off leaving your pets at home- look no further than Elise. We cannot recommend her enough.

About: I will go the extra mile to make sure your pup is well loved, hydrated, fed, and exercised. I am new to the area and am eager to explore with a furry friend that I cannot financially support currently, so I will love and care for it like my own. I just moved to Southern Pines, and am looking for any kind of word I can. My experience having dogs in my house all my life has made me responsible and capable of taking care of any kind of dog. We have a very safe apartment complex that we take long walks around many times a day to keep your pup happy and comfortable. If your dog is also a competent swimmer we have a nearby lake with public swimming spots to enjoy.

About: I have a friendly 3 year old doodle and we are looking to make dog friends and have lots of play dates as well as help out with anything you and your pets need! I have grown up with dogs and cats my whole life and can provide long walks as well as tons of cuddles. I have lots of experience with housesitting in other peoples homes. My dog has leash reactivity so I am experienced in dealing with training and management of that. I work 12 hour shifts 3 days per week so have lots of free time to pet sit during the week. My free days vary each week but I will keep my schedule updated. I walk & play with my own dog at least twice per day. I’d love to bring my pup to play with yours and walk together if that’s something your dog would enjoy! I’m happy to come over alone or with my 3 year old friendly dog to walk, play, or house sit. I will try my best to accommodate any specific requests you have. I will change water, feed meals, and love on your pet like they’re my own! Please let me know if your pet has any behavioral concerns (leash reactivity, separation anxiety, difficulty with other animals) or any medical needs. I like to be as prepared as possible!

William is absolutely amazing! We have 3 very high energy dogs with a very strict routine. William followed their routine without flaw and was more than just “watching them”. He sent photos upon arrival, throughout the stay, and before leaving. His communication was timely and clear. We will be booking with William again because he is someone we know we can trust with our pups and they enjoyed him. Even our very picky cat took to William right away!

FAQs for House Sitting - Carthage

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Carthage on Rover is $62.06 per night (as of September 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of September 2026, there are 303 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Carthage. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Carthage walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Carthage maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Carthage choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Carthage. On Rover:

  • 100% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 100% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
