“I was visiting from out of town and needed someone to keep my puppies while I attended a private dinner. Mark was very communicative and flexible with me and I appreciated his time set aside for my babies. His yard was safe and well maintained. I highly recommend Mark!”

About: Personal care that is catered to your dog’s needs with love. An extension of the love you provide your dog while you are away for walks, hikes, beach walks, sleepovers in pets home or ours. Allow yourself to work or vacation without worry. I am a virtual assistant and work from home. I work Monday through Friday and allow time in my schedule during day to walk and play every couple of hours. I have a fenced yard with one dog. We take multiple walks throughout the day. He is friendly and enjoys play dates with other dogs. I am available to go to your home if you do not want other dogs around and leave my dog home with a member of my family. Each dog is cared for as their owners desire including how they eat, when they eat, sleep, walk & play.
“I would definitely recommend Mariah and Neil for pet sitting. Let’s face it little dogs are sometimes a little more high maintenance. They really seem to understand small dog behavior, which I appreciate! They are great communicators and are fast at responding, which is so helpful. Thank you for letting my pup stay.”

About: I have had my dog Pickle for 14 years now and during that time have dog-sat (short and long term) for many other dogs, and some cats too! I have also helped a handful of wild animals heal and thrive, such as bats, rats, and opossums. I've been vegetarian for over a decade now and just love to do anything I can to help any type of animals. I have all the time in the world to help with your fur babies and/or house sitting! Just contact me and I'll be there. :) I currently have a fenced in backyard for my dogs to play in and explore. They also get at least one walk a day. I can either let yours out in the yard or take them for a stroll!
“Mary was great! She was able to take our last minute booking and patiently worked with introducing our anxious dog to hers. She even kindly let our toddler chat with her about everything toddlers chat about (bugs he saw, how he likes the beach and halloween, letters, Spiderman, etc.) when he wanted to come pick up his pup and say hello.”

About: I've had dogs my entire life so I have experience with dogs of all ages. I currently have a dog and two cats, and I'm also trusted in my neighborhood and amongst family and friends as someone to watch their animals when they're gone. Im a full time college student but I usually always have my own animals in my bedroom with me, sitting under (or on top of) my desk while I work. I have a friendly dog who absolutely loves play dates, so your dog would never get bored. My backyard is quite large so the dogs have tons of room to run around and play. The fences are regularly checked for holes under them to ensure our dog can't get out. I also have two large cat cages in my home where each of my cats sleep, but if needed, they can sleep in the same cage and the other one can be used to provide your pet some privacy, with their own food and water dishes. I have many many many interactive cat toys so even while i'm working, they can play with the toys that are attached to my desk and walls, along with scratching posts.
About: I have experience with dogs and cats, young and old, easy and "difficult". I am very adept at walking and caring for reactive dogs who can have a hard time with other dogs and/or humans, and do my best to avoid any situations that can trigger reactive behaviors. I'm also happy to help keep up any training routines, I'm pretty proficient in general dog training, but I know it always comes down to the individual dogs for what works best. I often have people remark about their pets who usually don't warm up to new people immediately taking a liking to me! I'm also totally respectful of animals who do need time to get to know new people and always meet them where they're at, so more than welcome to accommodate those who need more introduction time. I've had dogs in the family my whole life, and have lived with many cats as roommates, and I've loved them all. I've done extensive house sitting everywhere from big cities to rural areas, for periods of time as long as two months, caring for animals as well as the house and surrounding property. My schedule is very flexible so I can make sure I have plenty of time to give my full attention to your animal friends, I live in a sweet quiet neighborhood in Arcata near the bottoms that's great for regular walks, and I have a car and am happy to take pups out on more special adventures too! I always check in about what's best for each dog, and can tailor care around what their usual schedule is with walks and feeding, what kinds of play they like best, and any training routines I can help reinforce during our time together. I make sure to take extra care with reactive dogs and avoid any situations that may trigger them as best as possible.
“Sonja is the best! Her beautiful place is not only dog paradise, but also a treat to see for two-legged parents as well. My dogs LOVE it there, and came home exhausted. Perfect for my long work days. She and Mike could not be better humans, so kind, loving, and very intelligent. I am so grateful that my fur-babies and I connected with them. Don't miss out on this rare "unicorn" opportunity. Thank you again, Sonja.”

“Whitney was super flexible with us and was great at communicating while we did some non-dog friendly hikes. Will definitely trust her again with our Luna any time we visit the area.”

“Stari was very warm and caring. Mister President had his tail wagging as we approached her. The second visit, he pulled me towards her door. He had a great time both dates and came home happy and tired. She sent updates and was very kind.”

Sitters on Rover can offer flexible scheduling, so you can coordinate times that work best for you and your pet—whether that’s early drop-off or later pick-up to match your Carlotta commute.
If your schedule changes, it’s best to let your sitter know through the app as early as possible. Many sitters can adjust pick-up and drop-off times when needed.
Think of doggy day care as your dog’s fun, supervised play date that happens to fit into your workday. Day care through Rover takes place in a real home. This offers a calmer and more personalized environment for your pup.
A typical day can include companionship, one-on-one attention, and same day pick-up and drop-off. Many sitters can also offer structured routines and exercise throughout the day. For recurring, weekly day care, sitters will include photo updates so you can see your dog in their element.
Here are tips for finding the ideal day care fit for your dog:
- For some small dogs: In-home day care can be the perfect fit. Look for sitters whose "can host" section only lists dogs weighing 0–7 kilograms and/or 7–18 kilograms. During your Meet & Greet, ask about play areas based on dog size and energy level.
- For high-energy dogs: The ideal doggy day care can offer scheduled breaks and outdoor spaces or activities. You can also find sitters who host multiple dogs to satisfy your pup’s socializing needs.
- For dogs who prefer human-only companionship: Use the filters "Doesn't own a dog" and "Only accepts one pet at a time" to find the right care.
Play groups can be an option when you book with a day care sitter through Rover. Many sitters do host a small number of dogs at the same time. Smaller dog packs are generally safer, more fun, and ideal for dogs who enjoy playtime but also want to relax throughout the day. When looking for your dog’s pack, check the sitter’s profile to see if they "Accept multiple clients" or have their own dogs. Then during the Meet & Greet, you can see whether your dog is a good fit for their social circle!
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in CA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
