“This was our first time using Rover, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience! Olivia went above and beyond to make sure our dogs were well cared for and comfortable. She was reliable, communicative, and sent us plenty of updates, which gave us total peace of mind while we were away. We came home to happy dogs and a smooth experience from start to finish. We’ll definitely be booking with her again!”

About: Hi! I’ve been an animal lover for as long as I can remember and have grown up surrounded by dogs. I currently have a Golden Retriever named Sayde who lives with my parents back home, and although I don’t have a dog of my own in my apartment right now, caring for animals has always been a huge part of my life. Throughout the years, I’ve cared for pets belonging to family, friends, and members of my community. While attending Iowa State University, I joined the ACE Project, where I had the rewarding opportunity to foster several dogs who had experienced trauma or needed extra help with socialization. Working with these dogs taught me so much about patience, compassion, and the importance of creating a safe, loving environment where every dog can feel comfortable and thrive. I currently work at BluePearl Pet Hospital in Des Moines, where I care for and handle animals with a wide range of medical needs, including critically ill pets. This experience has given me valuable hands-on animal care experience and a strong medical knowledge base, allowing me to feel confident caring for pets who may need extra attention, medication, or specialized care. I truly miss fostering and spending time with dogs, and pet sitting feels like the perfect way to continue doing what I love! My goal is to make every pet feel safe, loved, and comfortable while their owners are away. Whether your pet is energetic and playful, shy and still warming up, or requires a little extra TLC, I’m happy to meet them where they are and give them the individualized care they deserve. I can’t wait to meet your furry family members! I work three 12-hour shifts at BluePearl Emergency Pet Hospital in Des Moines, and my schedule varies each week. I receive my schedule monthly, so planning ahead is helpful, especially for overnight stays. On my days off, I have plenty of time to dedicate to your pets and am available for drop-ins, dog walks, and spending quality time with them. For longer stays, I appreciate at least a month’s notice so I can coordinate with work and ensure I’m available. I always want to be upfront about my schedule to make sure your pets receive the time, attention, and care they deserve! I focus on keeping pets comfortable and sticking to their normal routines while their owners are away. I follow feeding schedules, make time for walks, playtime, and cuddles, and provide plenty of attention. I live in a spacious, pet-friendly apartment in a great neighborhood for long walks, with nearby hiking areas to explore. I’m also happy to crate your pet when I’m away if that’s part of their normal routine. Through my work at BluePearl Pet Hospital, I have experience caring for pets with medical needs and am comfortable following medication instructions. My goal is to make sure every pet feels safe, happy, and well cared for!

About: Hello! My name is Nina and I am 24 years old. I love both cats and dogs as I have had many of my own growing up and now! I am available pretty much anytime to care for your furry friends! Feel free to reach out! I stay home with baby and need to get out of the house. This is a great way for me to make money and get out more! “Mackenzie is super reliable and I trust them to give my dog the care she needs and be in my home while I’m at work! I love getting the videos and pictures that they send me”

About: I’ve taken care of dogs for the past 10 years. Most of my experience comes from small to medium size dogs, but I’m also open to caring for dogs of any size. Additionally, I have experience with senior dogs that may take an extra amount of care/support (I.e., administering medicine, helping them get around, etc.). I’m currently between jobs, so I’m available whenever you need me! I’m happy to tailor my schedule (e.g., wake-up time and bedtime) to match your pets’ usual routines and what they’re most comfortable with. I do have two pets of my own, so I greatly appreciate advance notice for extended stays. This allows me to arrange care for my pets while I’m away and ensure they’re well taken care of, too! I will make sure to clean any messes or wash dishes while you are away. I like to keep the house clean while I pet sit.
About: Prices are negotiable. I understand when having multiple dogs it racks up to a lot. I am willing to work with you on prices. I’ve had a dog since I was 8 years old. My love for dogs is never ending. I have been taking care of other peoples dogs since I was 19. I’m available to stay with your dog. I am not available to bring your dog to my house. I believe dogs do best in their own environment with all their toys and their own area. I currently work full time for a daycare in Polk City. I work 10hr days Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. On the weekends I like to take my sister’s dog for a walk unless I am watching someone else dog I will take that dog on a walk if able to. Majority of the dogs I watch stay at home because they know that area better. Anxiety is very common in dogs that get boarded or are away from home.
About: If you’re looking for a calm, safe place where your dog can relax, play, and get plenty of exercise, you’re in the right spot. I provide dog boarding in a quiet country setting with lots of open space for dogs to run and burn energy. Many dogs feel overwhelmed in busy boarding facilities, so my goal is to give them a low-stress environment where they can feel comfortable and cared for. Your dog will get: • Plenty of outdoor time and exercise • Constant supervision and attention • A safe, peaceful environment away from crowded kennels I’ve been around dogs for years and understand that every dog has a different personality and comfort level. I take the time to make sure they feel secure, get the activity they need, and settle in like they’re at home. Whether your dog loves to run, explore, or just relax, they’ll have the space and attention they need while you’re away. I also provide updates and photos so you can see how your dog is doing during their stay. Caring for dogs fits very naturally into my daily routine. Because I’m located in a quiet rural area, dogs staying with me have plenty of space to get exercise and enjoy the outdoors throughout the day. My day typically includes multiple outdoor breaks, playtime, and regular check-ins to make sure every dog is comfortable and getting the attention they need. I keep a consistent routine with feeding, activity, and rest, which helps dogs settle in quickly and feel at home. Since I’m around throughout the day, dogs are closely supervised and never left alone for long periods. I also make sure to send updates and photos so owners can see how their dog is doing while they’re away. Providing a calm, structured environment with lots of outdoor time is a normal part of my day, and I enjoy making sure every dog has a safe, comfortable, and fun stay. Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.
Before booking, confirm:
- the timing, length, and frequency of visits;
- the care instructions the sitter should follow;
- which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
- how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.
Not every sitter offers the same services, availability, or booking options. Review their profile and discuss the care you need through Rover before booking each service.
If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.
The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee, which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.
Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.
During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first Meet & Greet.
sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their contact information. Sitters may set a same-day, one-, three-, or seven-day cancellation policy. Cancelling within your sitter’s cancellation policy qualifies you for a full refund.
Same-day cancellations for recurring services, which include walks, drop-ins, and day care, follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for pet boarding and house sitting, if you cancel after 12 pm on the applicable cancellation deadline, you’ll receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for any remaining days.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means you will get a full refund and our support team will work with you to find a replacement sitter.
