About: As a local PhD student, I bring an exceptional level of detail, structure, and reliability to pet care. I am a fellow dog owner with extensive experience that ranges from house sitting cats and dogs to managing high energy environments with up to four dogs at once. Because I understand firsthand the daily routines and unique personalities of animals, I treat your pets with the exact same patience and care I give my own. My organized schedule ensures your home is fully respected and your furry family members receive dedicated companionship while you are away. As a PhD student, my weekends are completely free for pet care. I love balancing fun, active time with animals alongside quiet study hours during their downtime. I’ve managed everything from single cats to a pack of four dogs. I’ll give your pets the structured, reliable companionship they need while keeping your home perfectly respected. When staying in your home, I treat your space and your pets with the utmost respect. I strictly abide by all house rules, seamlessly maintain your pet’s established routines, and am always happy to keep things tidy by doing quick chores like vacuuming up pet hair or cleaning up litter before you get back.

About: My name is Destiny and I grew up caring for large and small dogs and cats. I have hands-on experience raising puppies and kittens from birth through adulthood. As an adult, I continue to care for both cats and dogs, including adopted shelter cats and my own Labrador Retriever and Standard Poodle. Both of my dogs are neutered, gentle and affectionate. My Standard Poodle loves to run and play and can be wonderfully bouncy, but he's also surprisingly nurturing and likes to make sure everyone is okay. My Labrador is basically Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh—a lovely potato who is particularly drawn to wee, scrappy dogs. I actively study canine behavior and learning. I train and participate in dog sports including obedience, scent work/nose work, agility, Barn Hunt and NASDA. I'm comfortable observing canine body language, following established training and management routines, providing enrichment, and adapting my approach to the individual dog. Most importantly, I genuinely enjoy getting to know animals as individuals. I don't expect every dog or cat to immediately love me, and I don't force interaction. I believe comprehensive care starts with paying attention to what makes an animal feel safe, comfortable and understood. I work from home with a flexible schedule and control over my own hours, which gives me plenty of time to incorporate walks, play, enrichment, meals, potty breaks and companionship throughout the day. Our household is unusually quiet and relaxed. There are no children in the home, and my neighborhood is a peaceful residential area that's well suited to walks and downtime. Pets staying with me have opportunities for activity and engagement, but also plenty of time and space to settle, nap and simply relax. Because I'm home much of the day, pet care fits naturally into my routine rather than having to be squeezed in around a long commute or rigid work schedule. I believe pet care starts with understanding the *individual* animal. I take time to learn each pet's normal routine, temperament, preferences, training cues, feeding needs and anything that may make them uncomfortable or stressed. My approach is calm, patient and attentive. I don't force interactions, and I pay close attention to body language and changes in behavior. I follow owners' established routines and management instructions carefully because consistency can make being away from home much easier for a pet. My home is clean, quiet, child-free and low-stress, in a peaceful residential neighborhood. I want visiting pets to have a comfortable place where they can play and engage when they want to, but can also settle and rest without constant activity, noise or disruption. When caring for pets in their own homes, I bring the same approach: respect the animal's familiar environment, follow the household's routines carefully, communicate reliably with the owner, and leave things exactly as I found them.

Joel took care of my large breed dog in my home over Memorial Day weekend and I am so happy with how everything went. Not only did he accept the job last minute, but he went above and beyond during the boarding, picking up after my dog in the backyard, taking out my trash from the bins in the house, and sending me loving photos everyday. Joel is an excellent caretaker.

About: I’ve grown up with dogs my whole life and I appreciate every minute I have with them and all animals. I’ve created my own dog walking business several years ago and gained lots of experience working with and observing the ways dogs function. I am currently Undergrad at UC Davis but use my free time to walk the dogs at Yolo County Animal Shelter. These days, I am working hard at school but appreciate the time I have with any animal! Besides the occasional study session or family vacation, I am free! I am comfortable crating, feeding, watering or walking any pets! I am happy to help take care of other household chores like watering plants or taking in mail!

About: I have cared for a wide range of animals since my childhood on a small family farm. I have bottle fed kittens to goats, trained puppies to ducks, and cared for little piglets to senior dogs. I also have some experience with medical procedures with dogs and cats, to farm animals. Experience with cats with diabetes, pets with blindness, deafness, and immobility. I enjoy caring for animals of all shapes and sizes and good care and enrichment is always my top priority! I like to check on my animals and animals I’m caring for a minimum of 3 times a day for 30 minutes each. With cats I like to spend time playing, setting up enrichment activities, and learning how they are most comfortable. With dogs I like to do a minimum of 3 walks a day followed by some of their favorite activities. I believe pets should be checked on morning, afternoon and evening at minimum. I like to follow the routine of the pets parents to a T so as to not disturb the pets while their families are gone. I think having a routine is important for a pet especially when their people/family are gone.

About: My entire life, my family has had at least two dogs, so I'm very well versed and familiar with the care and attention that a variety of different dog breeds need to get. In addition, I have two kittens of my own, who are extremely well cared for. Animals are my passion in life, and caring for them comes naturally to me. I can guarantee your fur babies will get all of the love, attention, and care in the world while I'm watching them. I'm a student and work part-time, so I'm busy but have a schedule that easily allows me to check in on your pets as-needed! I can check in frequently, spend hours with your pets, and sleep over if preferred. How I care for your pets depends on your personal instructions, boundaries, and expectations, and the specific needs of your pet, if applicable. I always closely follow all instructions and requests that I receive, so that I can best make your pet(s) comfortable and within their usual routines, and to best respect your home.

About: Since I was 16 years old, I have cared for and pet sat for dogs. Over the last 20 years I’ve had two of my own dogs that I got when they were six weeks old. I believe a happy focused, dedicated puppy stage (with lots of treats) makes for a loving, caring obedient, joyful dog to be able to live their best life. Enjoying all the things they were created for. I look forward to helping your dog enjoy their time at home while you are on vacation. A side note to add is I am a mother of 4 and I have two younger boys ages 13 and 11 who will be taking turns to attend with me during my visits as a teaching opportunity for more skills with different dogs. I am a stay at home mom with four kids. My children’s ages range from 22-11yrs. My stage of life provides for many opportunities to be able to share my time to help care for animals while providing moments to teach my children how to care for others. We have a large fenced yard, and are happy to also help with crating if needed. Daily walks and feedings are built into are routine. Having this same routine allows for us to easily help others with the same needs.

About: I’ve been caring for animals for most of my life and genuinely love getting to know pets of all personalities, ages, and energy levels. I had my own dog, Boo, for 12 years and was responsible for her daily care, routines, and companionship throughout her life. Currently, I help with my roommate’s dog, Mavi, and have helped care for her for the past 3 years. I help make sure she is fed, walked, has fresh water, and of course gets plenty of cuddles and belly rubs. I’ve also pet sat for friends several times and have experience caring for dogs of different ages and temperaments. In high school, I regularly house sat and cared for animals for a family friend with a farm. Along with caring for their dogs and cats, I also helped look after their horses and goats. I understand how important it is for pets to feel safe, comfortable, and loved while their owners are away, and I always try to provide calm, attentive, and reliable care. I currently work full time Monday through Friday from 8am–5pm, but I’m available to care for pets before and after work, during my lunch break, and much more flexibly on weekends. I’m committed to making sure pets stay on their normal routines and get the attention, care, and companionship they need while their owners are away. At this time, I plan to provide care in the client’s home, where pets are often most comfortable in their familiar environment. Since I currently rent, I’m limited on additional animals in my home, but I’m happy to provide reliable in-home visits, walks, drop-ins, and house sitting care. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I focus on maintaining their normal routine and creating a calm, safe, and comfortable environment. I understand that pets can feel stressed when their owners are away, so I try to provide consistency, patience, and plenty of attention to help them feel secure. I carefully follow all instructions regarding feeding schedules, walks, medications, house rules, and any special care needs. I also make sure pets always have fresh water, regular potty breaks, exercise, affection, and supervision appropriate for their needs and personality. I believe communication and trust are very important, so I’m happy to provide updates and photos to help owners feel reassured while they’re away. My goal is always to make pets feel cared for, comfortable, and loved in their own environment.

About: Hi fellow dog lovers! I am a veterinary assistant for Banfield Pet Hospital looking to take care of your pet in my free time! Ever since moving away from home I have missed the companionship of a great dog and dog sitting is the perfect gig! I have 12+ years experience taking care of dogs and cats and it remains my passion till this day. Qualified to care for pets with all kinds of medical/special needs . I cant wait to meet your furry family member! I recently graduated so I have much more free time for pet care. Otherwise on my day offs I am pretty open, working on applications for vet school and crafting or going for a jog. I cannot currently host for boarding at my home, however I have a lot of experience pet sitting at clients homes. I can work with anyone’s preferences, be that only going in for feedings/walks or being a homebody for most of the day for prolonged company. FAQs for House Sitting - Yolano

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of September 2026, there are 2,397 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Yolano. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Yolano walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Yolano maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Yolano choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Yolano. On Rover:

  • 95% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 98% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 94% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
