Karri was great with our elderly dog while we were gone for a week. She stayed in our home and took care of him like he was her own. She went over and above in taking care of Ben. He has ongoing health issues that can change very quickly and she easily adapted to his needs, gave meds and even completed ear cleanings when needed. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a dog sitter. We will not hesitate to have Karri stay with Ben again.

Allysa did a great job watching Jayla while we were away for my daughter’s wedding. I appreciated her communication and photos she sent while we were gone. She was very accommodating with providing the same routine with Jayla that we do when we are home. House was also clean when we returned. Will definitely have her watch Jayla again!

My fur babies loved her. She was very knowledgeable, kind, easy to talk to, good energy. Understood and was reassuring of my nervous issues leaving my kiddos at home for the first time in 6 years. Definitely recommend and will be happy to have her house sit or anything with our babies again. Thanks Aphra.

About: I grew up on a farm with many animals including dogs, cats, and horses. I love animals and would love to help care for yours! I work as a nurse so I do have some extra time off during the week/weekends. I am mostly available early mornings or the afternoons/evenings. On my days off, I can be flexible! I am here to accommodate yours and your fur baby’s needs! I will provide a safe environment both on and off leash. I would want the best care for my fur baby too.

Gabby watched Winston (in-house) while my family was away for spring break. Winston is a high drive vizsla and can be quite a shock to people that aren't use to their relentlessness and lack of recognition of personal space. After meeting Gabby we knew Winston would be in good hands though. Gabby sent us updates (including pictures) and was quick to respond when we check-in. If you need someone to watch your pup, we definitely recommend Gabby!

About: I currently have 2 cats of my own that I take care of, and I also have experience with cat-sitting, dog-sitting, dog-walking, and more 🐱🐶❤️ I’m working part-time as a pet sitter right now and I can watch your pets on any day of the week (including weekends) from 3:30pm to midnight, but I am willing to make exceptions if I receive any inquiries for pet-sitting outside of my normal hours :) I mainly care for pets at the homes of my clients, but cats are welcome in my home if they don’t mind the company of my 2 cats :) 1 cat per day, and you have to bring your cat in some type of cage/crate. They will be staying upstairs where my room, litter box, and food/water bowls are located.

About: I’ve cared for family and friends pets for years, but more importantly, I worked as a pet care assistant manager for 3 years, and currently hold a part-time pet care position. Through these opportunities I have spent my time managing large play groups, administering medication, caring for daily pet care needs, and creating care plans for pets in need of special care. I’ve had extensive training in body language, health and safety, and dog handling. But most importantly, I love animals and have a deep passion for keeping pets happy and healthy! I currently work full time at a doggie daycare, so be aware that booking with me will mean your pets must be able to be unattended for an 8 hour work day, however, my other 16 hours are free and flexible! Just let me know how I can best fit into your pet’s schedule. Unfortunately, I have an unfriendly dog and am unable to care for animals in my own home, however, I am openly available to make my way to you and your pets!

Shea was absolutely fantastic. Our dog has some health issues, and Shea was very attentive to his medications and our concerns while we were away. We came home to a very happy dog. Our house was spotless. Without asking, Shea washed the bedding and put everything in its place. Her communication was thorough and consistent. Without any hesitation, we would ask Shea to sit for Rocky again! Thank you again for everything, Shea!

About: I've taken care of all types of pets from a very young age. Whether it be a tiny chihuahua to a sizeable Bullmastiff, a cat, birds including chickens, reptiles, fish, even small furry friends like rabbits or ferrets. I have adored and been fascinated by animals my whole life and am up for any challenge you throw at me. I've personally trained my dog to follow voiceless hand signal commands and he is also special needs, so caring for a senior or special needs animal is a breeze for me! I've even provided end of life care for my grandmother's cat, which included administering fluids via injection, so don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it. Not to mention that I have experience raising young kittens and squirrels at milk drinking ages! I am available from 7am to 5pm Monday through Friday and overnights on Fridays and Saturdays. I could possibly do extended overnight stays in my own home if your pet is dog, cat, and young child friendly. Whether it be for a walk, potty break, comfort while you're away, socializing and training your puppy basic commands (and maybe a few tricks), or even just taking your furry friend out for a pup cup and to a sniff spot, I'm the gal for you. I will even provide litter or doggy doo doo cleanup for an additional price. Your pet will always be safe and loved in my hands. I am currently in between jobs, and my kiddos go to daycare from 7am-5pm M-F, so I am available to help between those times, or overnights at your house on Fridays and Saturdays. I could be purr-suaded to do extended overnight stays at my house if your feline is cat, dog, and young child friendly. If I am caring in my home, I have 3 cats-all fixed- a special needs male dog who is NOT fixed due to medical reasons, and two kids under the age of 5. If you choose to keep your pet at my home, they need to be able to get along with them or be kept in a separate room. If you have a female dog, they would need to be fixed with proof of spay. My special needs dog has no business procreating! I have a large home and a decent sized yard with a tie-out cable so that your pet can explore my whole backyard safely without fear of taking off. I also have a screened in porch that I often let the cats roam in during the nicer months. I have a Honda CR-V, so I can keep decently large dogs in the car as well for transport or in case of emergency. If I am caring for your pet in your home, I will cuddle, play, exercise, and feed & water them to their hearts content. I will ask however for an extra fee to pick up any dog poo or clean litter boxes.

About: I've owned many pets over the years and taken full care and responsibility for them, I help my mom out at the human society and I help my mom dogsit for her dog sitting business. I would prefer part time on the weekends, as long as im given 12 hours notice and I can do part-time on the weekdays if given a week's headsup. I usually take dogs out every 3 hours and I've cared for dogs and cats with a plethora of different diets, bathroom schedules and medications that they are required to have. I live in a dorm right now so I don't doing care in my home for the time being.

FAQs for House Sitting - Winsted

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of September 2026, there are 1,815 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Winsted. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Winsted walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Winsted maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Winsted choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Winsted. On Rover:

  • 98% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 96% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 99% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
