This was our first time using Rover, and we decided to take a chance because in the past we’ve always relied on family to watch our dogs while we were on vacation. We have one pup with high anxiety who doesn’t do well in kennels, and neither of our dogs are great with other dogs, so we were definitely nervous. Sarah completely put our minds at ease. She cared for them and treated them like they were her own. We received updates, knew they were in great hands, and could actually enjoy our vacation without worrying. I honestly think they may have enjoyed their time with Sarah more than they do with us! We couldn’t have asked for a better first Rover experience and would absolutely book with her again.

About: I grew up LOVING dogs and cats and honestly all sorts of animals . I dont have any official training in veterinary practices, but I do feel I do know quite a bit of taking care of animals and making them feel safe and loved . I have two beagles I helped my father raise after we got them from a rescue and they are the best part of my life. I love animals I hope you consider me to animals sit so I can just spend time loving on animals. 😁👍 (I list my experience mainly caring for my beagles but I promise ive been caring for dogs for more than three years) I honestly love spending as much of my day taking care of dogs as I physically can, weather thats bringing them with me places, playing in the yard, or just giving pets. I always try to be with the animal (because as much is i love em sometimes they can get into trouble if not watched) I always make sure I know if foods are safe for animals first off no matter what if I dont know. Even if its treats honestly I still like to read for a second or two. Always make sure areas are safe too, make sure things are picked up so nothing can be grabbed by a doggo, and also if im letting them out to go potty I always keep track of where they are especially at night because things happen to fences all the time and dogs are smart.

This is the second time that Heather has watched Leo. She is fantastic. When I come home I notice little things that she did but was not asked of her. For example, she cleaned and filled up Leo’s water bowl that was outside. She folded up the hose that was a mess outside. Cleaned the floors. Little things like this are appreciated but not expected.

About: I provide calm, attentive, and reliable pet care tailored to each animal’s needs. I had my own dog for 13 years, who passed away last year, giving me deep understanding of lifelong care and companionship. I’ve also been a dog foster and worked with multiple rescue groups, caring for dogs with a wide range of temperaments, including shy, anxious, and high-energy personalities. In addition, I have extensive pet sitting experience with all kinds of animals. I’m comfortable with daily routines, walks, playtime, and basic medications, and I bring patience, presence, and genuine care to every pet I look after. Pet care fits naturally into my routine because I have a flexible work schedule that allows me to prioritize visits, walks, and check-ins throughout the day. I’m able to adjust my availability as needed, which helps me be reliable for both last-minute and recurring bookings. I structure my week around my commitments so I can give each pet consistent, attentive care without feeling rushed. This flexibility allows me to provide dependable support and maintain a calm, present energy with every animal I care for. I prioritize safety, trust, and a calm environment in every pet care situation. In a client’s home, I respect their space and follow all instructions closely to keep the pet’s routine consistent and stress-free. I make sure doors, gates, and leashes are secure at all times and never take risks during walks or outdoor time. I keep a close eye on behavior, appetite, and energy levels so I can quickly notice if something feels off. I also maintain cleanliness in feeding areas and litter boxes, and ensure pets always have fresh water and a comfortable environment. My goal is to create a safe, grounded presence so pets feel secure, cared for, and at ease while their owners are away.

Ali is the best dog sitter we’ve had yet! She was so sweet with our anxious Aussie! Our dog is afraid of thunderstorms, and Ali made sure she was back at the house to keep her comforted during the weekend storms. She also was great with updates, and sent both videos and pictures! Last but not least, she left the house in perfect condition (which I so appreciated!)… she even started the laundry with the sheets and towels she used. We will definitely be using her again!

Our girls are usually really excited to see us when we have a sitter but they weren’t all that concerned when we returned after having Heather as a sitter which tells us they got every possible need met! They both older and a little clingy so we were hoping mostly for companionship and it looks like Heather did a fantastic job!

About: Hi, I’m Jay, and my wife Cindy is a full-time mom to our teenage daughter and our dog. Cindy grew up on a farm, which sparked her lifelong love for animals and plants. Over the years, we’ve cared for two Havanese dogs and a yellow Labrador Retriever. We currently have a very sweet female Havanese who gets along wonderfully with other dogs. Our daughter also loves playing with dogs and takes great care of them. We have a spacious, fenced yard where your small dog can play safely. We only accept hypoallergenic or non-shedding breeds. We generally welcome dogs weighing between 3 and 20 pounds and allow them to lounge on our couches. However, for safety reasons, we cannot accommodate aggressive dogs, so you may need to find another sitter in that case. Cindy is a full-time stay-at-home mom, so dogs in our care receive plenty of love, attention, and companionship throughout the day. Our whole family genuinely loves having dogs around, and we treat every pup as part of our family while they’re with us. We’re happy to provide dog beds, bowls, toys, and a crate if needed. We’re typically available 24/7 and always make sure your dog feels safe, comfortable, and well cared for. Hello! I’m Jay’s wife, Cindy. I start my mornings at 6 AM by heading out to the backyard with the dogs, and I love making sure they’re well cared for throughout the day. Mealtime is one of my favorite moments with them, so if you have any specific requests regarding your dog’s food, please feel free to let me know anytime! When dogs visit for the first time, they often want to go outside to the backyard every 30 minutes to an hour. This is usually because they are curious and exploring their new environment, seeking comfort in open spaces, marking their territory, or simply adjusting their bathroom habits while settling in. I enjoy spending time outside with the dogs, watching them explore and playing fetch—especially when the weather is nice. Even when they’re just roaming around the backyard, I always keep an eye on them to ensure they’re safe. When it’s time for a nap, I let the dogs rest peacefully while I send updates to their owners. I love being home all day, sharing my time with the dogs and my family. Whether your dog loves to play, cuddle, or needs some extra attention, I always tailor their care to ensure they’re comfortable and happy. Caring for dogs has been a big part of my life. Over the past five years, I’ve raised and nurtured dozens of Havanese and Labrador Retriever puppies before helping them find their forever homes. I also have a passion for photography! With my background in film, video production, and visual effects design, I love capturing special moments of the dogs through photos. I’m always happy to adjust to your dog’s preferences and needs, so please don’t hesitate to reach out with any special requests or questions!

We are truly grateful for finding Maxton. We could not have had a better experience in obtaining a professional in home sitter. Our dog, Corporal, has an Assistant Dogs International (ADI) certification and travels with us everywhere. The longest amount of time that my spouse has been separated from Corporal (until this last week) is 2.5 days. Just days prior to our most recent trip, Corporal tore her CCL. Finding someone on short notice who was able to provide care and comfort to Corporal was a major stressor. Maxton was more than willing to come to our home prior to booking to meet Corporal and us and alleviated many of concerns. Upon leaving for our trip, any remaining concerns were soon alleviated. Maxton not only provided care to Corporal, but to my spouse and me as well. Beyond updates and photos, he showed true empathy for two people whose dog plays a critical role in their lives.

FAQs for House Sitting - West Mercur

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of August 2026, there are 1,167 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across West Mercur. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred West Mercur walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in West Mercur maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in West Mercur choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in West Mercur. On Rover:

  • 95% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 95% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
