“Patricia is great! She truly cares for our fur baby and takes all steps necessary to make sure all her needs are met while we're away. She's extremely flexible and worked with us on some scheduling changes during a recent trip. She stays in communication, raises any concerns and most importantly made sure our finicky girl as fed, comfortable and happy. She also made sure her medication was properly and timely given. I loved receiving her notes and photos of our dog after each visit as well. I'd definitely recommend Patricia!”

“Great experience!! Marisa just finished several days of daily drop-ins for my three precious brother cats. They had the same sitter for almost nine years in TX, but we moved back to NY and did not have anyone here yet for nearly two years. I was so nervous about having a new sitter because our cats require so much TLC and laptime, and so one of us always stayed behind with them. I knew the moment I walked in from our trip, that the kitties were calm and happy. Marisa gave them so much TLC and kept me informed daily with photos and reports about how well they were adjusting. Marisa is truly an animal person, and I could see how they naturally took to her right away. She was thorough and confident with instructions and care, and she reassured me that they would be in good hands!!! Very true and very happy to share that!!”

“David did drop-in visits for me while I was traveling for work. He was polite, professional, and friendly. My boyfriend and my cats approve! Would definitely recommend.”

About: I’ve had two dogs in my lifetime each for 12 years and I’ve always loved to be around them and to make sure they were safe and felt happy. I treat each pet like family. My reliability, calm demeanor and love for animals make both pets and their owners feel at ease. I will walk the dog everyday and I can board dogs every weekend. I have experience taking care of a French bulldog named Randy. Sometimes I go there to take care of him and other times I bring him to my apartment. I have space in our apartment for the dog to roam around and I live in a safe dog friendly neighborhood in which we can take the dog for long walks near a park and a pond.

“Stephanie takes great care of all of our pets, is quick to respond to questions/concerns about them, and was able to accommodate our booking on a day's notice due to a family emergency that required us to travel immediately. I highly recommend her!”

We booked her for 8 days of drop in visits, and every day that she was with our Charli she takes lots of pictures and write notes of what she did to Charli ( like a summary of her visit) , which me and my hubby really loved. We are booking her again june to november while im away for travel work… we love you Monica”

“I have used April once, but intend to use her again soon. She is responsive and thorough whenever I contact her. She sent an adorable photo of my dog from her drop-in visit. I feel overall that I can trust that she will be there when she needs to be and do what I have asked of her.”

I only my be unavailable for services between 5pm-7pm as I may be taking my kids to extracurricular activities. I have 2 dogs at home so I welcome pets that get along with other animals. I do have a dog kennel outside that I can use to let the pets I care for safely run around and play with each other.
“Melaina made our international trip away from our two girl cats so worry-free. She was so responsive to every message and went above and beyond, taking her own initiative to clean the litter box and throw away trash as if it was her own house and her own pets. Our cats were nice and comfy under her care. Book her!”

About: Dogs have been my whole heart for as long as I can remember. I started walking and babysitting pups when I was 13, and I’ve never stopped. Over the years I’ve grown up with and cared for Labs, an English Bulldog, a Jack Russell, a Cocker Spaniel, a Pit Bull mix, a Cattle Dog, a Great Dane, and a French Bulldog, so big, small, sleepy, or full of zoomies, I adore them all. My newest family member is a sweet Cavalier King Charles who loves making new dog friends, so your pup will have a gentle buddy to play with (or snuggle with, if that’s more their style). What your dog can expect with me: A cozy home in West Nyack with a fenced-in yard and a separate downstairs space to relax A crate already set up if your dog feels safest with one Lots of attention. I work from home part-time, so I’m around and my schedule is flexible with a little notice Comfortable, careful medication care, including injections Plenty of photos and videos so you never have to wonder how they’re doing When your dog stays with me, they’re treated like family. I want you to be able to relax and enjoy your time away, knowing your best friend is safe, happy, and loved. Feel free to reach out with any questions. I’d love to meet your pup! 💛 It’s pretty much my hobby! I’ve been fostering this year, I watch, all of my friends animals and more. Always go out every few hours. Never left alone long. I treat all dogs like they’re my own, take them out every few hours or for walks, more if necessary, they have full access to the bed, couch, can use a crate if they like that more. Happy to adhere to any guidelines.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.
Before booking, confirm:
- the timing, length, and frequency of visits;
- the care instructions the sitter should follow;
- which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
- how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.
Not every sitter offers the same services, availability, or booking options. Review their profile and discuss the care you need through Rover before booking each service.
If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.
The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.
Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.
During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first .
sitters on Rover set their own , which you can find on their profile under their contact information. Sitters may set a same-day, one-, three-, or seven-day cancellation policy. Cancelling within your sitter’s cancellation policy qualifies you for a full refund.
Same-day cancellations for recurring services, which include walks, drop-ins, and day care, follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for pet boarding and house sitting, if you cancel after 12 pm on the applicable cancellation deadline, you’ll receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for any remaining days.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means you will get a full refund and our support team will work with you to find a replacement sitter.
