“Nicole was so wonderful! She took the BEST care of Basil, who is an older dog with some health limitations (hard of hearing, hard of vision, etc). Nicole has a few older dogs of her own, so understood Basil's needs and was very attentive and loving with her. I would recommend to anyone looking for a loving home to board your dog!”

“Jennifer, Thomas and their girls took such good care of our pup. They sent frequent updates and photos throughout the visit, and we could instantly tell how comfortable our dog was in their home. Cannot recommend them enough!”

About: My specialty is caring for small dogs. I've been a three-time pug owner and trusted by friends and family with their pets for over 20 years. I provide reliable, compassionate care as if they were my own pet. I work as consultant from home and routinely offer pet care Fridays-Sundays, but try to be flexible. Pets can make themselves at home but I will be sure to cater to your rules and pets' routine. I also have experience caring for senior dogs and can administer medication. While not advertised on Rover, I can care for docile cats. Photos and video updates of your fur babies will be sent daily. I provide a safe environment in my uncluttered and spacious apartment - ideal for doggie beds, crates and toys. I make sure dogs cannot get into cabinets, garbage or near electrical outlets. I make sure water bowls are filled at all times. I live directly across the street from a beautiful city park popular with dog owners and ideal for walks.

“Peter and Monique were so attentive to our dog for a whole week. Peter was very thorough in asking all about Sooty’s needs and preferences. We really appreciated the updates and photos, our dog had a lovely time and was very well cared for. I booked Peter based on reading the reviews and would say exactly the same as others have. Definitely recommend and will be booking again in future.”

“I was looking for someone special to look after my 15 year old Shih Tzu, Opal. Someone who would understand her fussy eating habits, could give her eye drops, be patient with her inability to see well, and go outside when she needs to. And, a quiet place for Opal just to rest her weary bones. I found that in Cipriana. I hope in the future, she can care for little Opal again. Opal even shared a bed with Cipriana's older dog!”

“Diana was very accommodating scheduling a meet and greet, and adjusting to our later-than-planned arrival due to bad weather. Journey was well taken care of and Diana kept us updated on his status. We are comfortable using Diana again.”

“Our Cat Alan loved staying with Taylor. So much so tear he cried when I picked him up and he had to leave. Taylor was very responsive and sent many great photos and videos of him looking very happy.”

“We had a family medical issue and was able to book Jacqueline quickly. Our dogs are both rescues and it matters a great deal to us who we bring into their lives. Jacqueline immediately made us, and our dogs, feel comfortable and within 5 minutes of being with them, our eldest was resting in her lap. Jaqueline sent constant photos and updates and we are very grateful to have found her and will for sure book her again. TY again, Jaqueline. That last note was from the pups!”

“Simon watched our little pup while we went away for the weekend. The two of them became fast buddies and we were grateful to know our little guy was with someone he was so comfortable with.”

“Irene is the best! She is very responsive and caring with our slightly neurotic dog. 🐶 He always comes home happy and calm. Irene has a great setup for playtime (fenced yard, screened porch).”

“Victoria is highly sought after and now I know why! Not only did she make me, as Maks' mom, feel comfortable and answered all my crazy questions, she made Maks feel comfortable and right at home in her home! She has toys and a bed and they watched TV together and she took him on walks, all the while sending me pictures and corresponding with me about his well being - above and beyond anything I could have imagined. Her demeanor is calm, attentive, and she was patient with Maks and his anxieties, something that is very hard to find! She even offered advice and knowledge about some of his anxieties and what I can do, and what she can help with while he's with her. Victoria helped make the daunting process of leaving my boy with a stranger into an easy, breezy sleepover with a new friend! Thank you!”

“Alicia was very responsive to our messages before and during our dogs' stay with her. We have two Aussies, one who is usually anxious and has never boarded anywhere before (spoiled covid doggie). Alicia has a warm smile and calm manner the dogs liked. When I picked them up after a couple of days they were calm and happy to see us but not crazy. She even brushed them, yay! I will use Alicia again for our pups.”

“Yenifer took excellent care of my dog. He was so happy with her! She made sure she communicated everyday with us during the stay, sent us pictures and updates. We are very happy with her services and would strongly recommend her. Thank you, Yenifer.”

About: I have spent my entire life surrounded by animals of all kind and have always had the love and drive to ensure they have the best life and experiences possible. This love and compassion has led me to volunteering at the SPCA for a number of months, which turned into working there for over 4 years as both an animal care attendant and as a veterinary assistant. In my time there, I have been given the most incredible opportunity to both care for and rehouse hundreds of animals and have even acquired a couple of cats along the way. I am currently in the process of opening my own dog daycare to provide a very loving, caring environment for the dogs to spend their day while their pet parents are away.
“Katherine was a great sitter for our dog, Shy. She sent us photos everyday and we could tell from the pictures that Shy was happy and being well cared for. We'll definitely reach out to her for our next trip!”

About: I have a passion for dogs and taking their consent and body language into consideration always. I operate Fear Free, although I’m not certified and I thoroughly promote and try to help clients have a better understanding of a dog’s cues and their consent and why it matters. I have many hours of canine observation and I have patience for all canines and their needs. I work a remote job in the early hours of the morning into the early afternoon, so much of this time aid can spend with your pets. I do have a night job as well and it is only a 4 hour shift. However pet sitting becomes priority when I am booked for sitting, so if I do need to be with your critter full time, please book as far ahead as possible so I can make arrangements. You can trust me to treat your home with respect and privacy! I keep a clean house and treat your home as if it were my own.
“Angel was just terrific with our dog, Sasha, who can be rather anxious. Sasha came down with a stomach thing two days before we were going away. I offered a couple of options to Angel because I was worried that Sasha would get up in the middle of the night and need to go out (and might not ask!). Angel wasn't phased and said no problem. In the end that didn't happen, but Angel was willing to get up if needed. Sasha seemed very happy. Since their backyard isn't fenced in, Angel put up a great enclosure so Sasha could play and hang out safely outside. We look forward to her next visit with Angel!”

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
Every sitter on Rover has their own routine. Depending on the arrangements you agree on before the stay, a sitter can follow your dog’s regular feeding schedule, provide a comfortable place to sleep, offer companionship, and support their usual exercise and play needs.
Depending on the sitter, their home environment, and your dog’s needs, daily exercise may include walks, outdoor play, indoor enrichment activities, or supervised play with compatible dogs. These activities are not automatically included with every booking, so ask the sitter what a typical day looks like.
During the Meet & Greet, discuss your dog’s usual exercise and play routine, whether they can safely interact with other dogs, and any activities or restrictions the sitter should follow. You can also ask the sitter to send photo and message updates during the stay so you can see how your dog is spending their time.
Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their Taghkanic home-away-from-home, we recommend packing:
- Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
- Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
- Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your Taghkanic.
Tip: You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.
You and your Taghkanic sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee, which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page.
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in NY ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
