About: I have had dogs all my life. I currently have two golden retrievers who run my world! One is 4 and the other is 8 months old. I am available to stay at your house overnight and during long periods of time. I am a full time ultrasound student in Louisville but my school schedule is very flexible so I can come home to let the pups out multiple times per day! I am currently a full-time sonography student in Louisville, but my class schedule is very flexible. I am also available all weekends. I am able to stay overnight and take your pups out multiple times per day. I have two golden retrievers of my own (they are cared for by my dad when I am gone so they would not be coming with me) and they are SPOILED rotten. I will make sure your pup is the same! I am very active and love going on walks so that would be a part of our daily activities.

Allison was amazing. She made homemade dog safe bubbles, brought tennis balls and played lots of fetch with my babies. Lucy,Bruno and scruffers had an amazing week. When I got home they were exhausted and didn’t want Allison to leave. She is the best sitter I have had and I highly recommend her.

About: Let me ease your mind and bring comfort to your pets when you travel! I've been pet and house sitting for 20 years in the Pewee Valley / Louisville, Kentucky, area. I am great with dogs and cats. I have also taken care of chickens, rabbits and the like. I'm accustomed to watering plants, taking the trash out, and generally keeping a home safe and secure. While I am fairly new to Rover, I can provide references upon request. I also do house and pet sitting through Trusted Housesitters (I only mention that because I have 40 5-Star reviews with them ... I've included a couple of screenshots in my photos). I just turned 65 in February, so your pets will get a lot of my undivided attention, especially if I'm house-sitting for you. I'm pretty much a homebody, though I do very much enjoy walking everyday, especially with canine friends! I will care for your pets in your home in a manner in which they are accustomed. I try to adapt my schedule and routine around theirs as much as possible. I have experience with elderly and special needs pets and can administer medications if needed.

About: Never had my childhood home had less than 5 animals. I've grown up taking care of dogs, cats, Guinea pigs, rats, mice, gerbils, bunnies, and turtles-most of those under solely my care. I've always loved caring for my animals and watching them grow. I'm currently working a very flexible schedule Monday-Friday so I will be available almost any time! With weekends, just ask! I can usually squeeze in a visit/walk no problem. We have a 3200 sq ft 2 level home with a large unfenced yard. I have one friendly 8 year old female labradoodle, one very sweet, friendly, and energetic 1 year old newfoundland mix, and another very nonchalant 5 year old male cat. I also have a 9 year old son and a 3 year old son who both love and respect animals. Our home is a very comfortable space for any kid friendly animal to enjoy. We feed 2x a day, let them out to potty at least 4x a day-I will leash if necessary.

Madison was a pleasure to have in my home. My partner and I were gone for the entire day with a 13 week old shepherd puppy at home. Not only were we worried about leaving him alone for an entire day, but we knew he could be a handful. She took on his energy with gusto (and even managed to tire him out) but also was a great companion for our 2 year old collie. While we didn't need her to take care of the cats, she was more than pleasant around them and happy to meet them when we did a meeting the weekend before. Should I need any more puppy-sitting for the day, I'd be happy to have her back around my boys.

About: I’ve been caring for dogs since I was 13 years old and have always had a deep love for animals. Over the years, I’ve helped rescue and care for many pups, giving them a safe, loving, and happy environment. Since high school, I’ve also provided trusted house sitting and pet care for families in my neighborhood, gaining experience with dogs of different sizes, breeds, personalities, and routines. I currently have two large dogs of my own, so I’m very comfortable handling bigger breeds, high-energy pups, feeding schedules, long walks, playtime, and maintaining consistent routines. I understand how important it is for pets to feel safe, comfortable, and cared for while their owners are away, and I always treat every dog like family. I’m dependable, attentive, patient, and highly communicative, and I make it a priority to keep owners updated with messages and photos for peace of mind. Whether it’s dog walking, overnight house sitting, administering basic care, or providing companionship and attention, I’m committed to making sure your pets feel loved, exercised, and stress-free in your absence. I am currently home from college for the summer and have plenty of free time during my day to take care of your pups! I am available to walk your doggo anytime during the day and want to make this process stress-free. If there is a time that your pup does better walking, I want to make that possible for you. For dog walking and pet sitting, I focus on creating a safe, fun, and comfortable experience for every pet. During walks, I make sure dogs get the exercise, attention, and stimulation they need while also prioritizing safety and positive behavior. I’m comfortable handling dogs of all sizes and energy levels, including larger breeds, since I have two large dogs of my own. For pet sitting, I follow each pet’s normal routine as closely as possible, including feeding schedules, potty breaks, walks, playtime, and any special instructions provided by the owner. I make sure pets feel comfortable, loved, and relaxed while their owners are away by giving them plenty of companionship and attention. I’m dependable, patient, and highly attentive to each dog’s individual needs and personality. I also provide regular updates and photos so owners can feel confident knowing their pets are safe, happy, and well cared for.

Emily was amazing. She watched our dogs all day while we were busy with holiday plans. She sent lots of pictures and was so intentional around care. My dogs are a bit reactive and she did great catering to their quirks. She's super friendly, great at communicating and overall and excellent pet sitter for anyone's pets.

Catherine was great with our pups! She saved us in a pinch and booked us last minute so we could make our concert! She was very tentative when we gave her instructions and had no issues bonding right to our 3 babies. If we are ever in Louisville again and need our pups watched, she will be our first call! We also got video and picture updates the entire time we were gone! Top tier service!

FAQs for House Sitting - Shelbyville

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Shelbyville on Rover is $49.95 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 779 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Shelbyville. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Shelbyville walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Shelbyville maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Shelbyville choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Shelbyville. On Rover:

  • 96% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 99% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 99% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
