“Jessica was fantastic with our Annie!! She was very responsive and always giving super helpful updates! We loved having her watch our dog and would recommend her to anyone looking for a great sitter!”

“Brad was amazing with our animals! He brought in our packages and mail and kept both the dogs and the cat fed and happy. We will absolutely be booking him in the future.”

“Maddie was wonderful with my kitties! They bonded with her fast and she was very thorough, responsive, and overall did a great job! Would definitely book her again!”

“Mia was amazing. She is very professional and kept me updated throughout the time I was gone. She wanted to know everything about Loki and took notes to be on top of things over the weekend I had her dog sit. I strongly suggest first-time customers book with her if you want a completely stress free booking. I will 100% go with Mia the next time I need a dog sitter, knowing not only I, but my dog Loki, will have a pleasant experience.”

“Super amazing sitter! Sent me so many pictures and was so loving towards my kitten. Really great communication and speedy replies. I felt very comfortable leaving my kitten with her and will always choose her again”

“Madison is superb. She’s incredibly responsive and responsible. We were nervous about leaving our pups behind and concerned we might have trouble finding someone brave AND loving enough to care for the bully breed. Madison didn’t flinch and our dogs took to her immediately. She is professional, kind, punctual, caring, and will even send photos, which is incredibly thoughtful and reassuring. We won’t hesitate to rely on Madison in the future and highly recommend her services to others.”

About: I am currently a college student studying zoo and wildlife biology, and I hope to have a career in either wildlife rehabilitation or working at a zoo. I have a good amount of experience with animals; I have been around animals my whole life, my grandfather was a veterinarian, and I have been pet sitting since high school. I also worked as a kennel attendant at Augusta Valley Animal Hospital. I have volunteered at the Humane Society and at the SPCA as well, walking dogs and performing other tasks. I’m currently a full time college student, but have some breaks during the day and am free in the evening/night. My availability depends on the day, but just reach out and I’ll let you know! I live in an apartment complex so I would not be able to have your dog stay at my house. However, it is a really nice and quiet neighborhood perfect for walks (short or long)!
“Abigail did a fantastic job dropping in on my kitties. She was prompt each day and even scheduled a meet and greet with them. I am very satisfied. My babies were well cared for and I will use Abigail again for future bookings.”

“Kimberly was fantastic, jumping right in to help take care of the cats when I had to rush off to the hospital with a heart attack! she even came to the hospital to get a house key”

“John stayed the day with our two dogs. It was our first time using him, so he was kind enough to come meet the pups a couple days prior to sitting them - to make sure it was a good fit. The dogs immediately liked him & approved! He arrived on time, sent pictures during the day, and was very polite. I plan to use him again :-)”

“Ariane was dependable and came every day as expected while I was gone on vacation. She sent me updates and notes on my two cats and made me feel very comfortable with her being there to take care of them. She also sent plenty of pictures! In addition, she fed my fish and watered my plant. Would recommend her! Thank you, Ariane!”

About: Hi! I’m a dependable and caring animal lover with experience taking care of family pets, including feeding, walking, playtime, and making sure pets feel safe and comfortable while their owners are away. I understand how important it is to trust someone with your pets, and I’ll always treat them with patience, attention, and love like they’re part of my own family. I have been taking care of my family's pets my entire life; we have always had dogs and lizards for as long as I can remember, and it is a team effort to take care of our family members that can't speak for themselves. I’m excited to provide reliable care and help give you peace of mind while you’re away from your furry friends! I am currently working part-time at the Lynchburg courthouse in downtown. This includes Mondays-Wednesdays from 8:30-5:00. I am a law student at Liberty, so I am constantly working on some law related project or another, but I can offer time to house sit so long as there is a wifi connection! If you are located near downtown, I am able to offer midday visits to your pet Mon-Wed for potty breaks/walks at lunch time. I have always had dogs and lizards in my life growing up. While I have never cared for an animal that is special needs, I have cared for many different types of pet-personalities. I am happy to cuddle with your pet and go out for a long walk for the high-energy movers, as well as sit back and keep my distance if your friend is a little shy. Caring for an animal, to me, means listening to what they need when they tell you the first time.
“Emma was awesome! She made sure to communicate every time she stopped by the house to feed and check on the pets. Our cat who doesn’t always like everyone was in love with her! So you know she has good energy. This was our first time hiring a pet sitter and Emma made sure we knew our pets were doing well and were comfortable and cared for. Will definitely be rebooking in the future.”

About: Hi! I’ve been pet-sitting since I was 15 and caring for family pets since I was little. I’ve always loved giving special attention to pets and getting to know their personalities. My family dog is in his senior years and we’ve taken great care of his specific needs, always making sure he’s not in pain and receives the love he deserves. I’ve been around animals of all sizes. I'm a dependable and caring animal lover. While I'm new to Rover, I've spent years around pets and understand how important it is to trust the person caring for your dog. I'm active, attentive, and committed to making sure every walk is safe, fun, and tailored to your dog's needs. Whether your pup loves long walks, playtime, or a slower pace, I'll make sure they receive plenty of attention and care. I believe pet parents should feel at ease about how their pets are being taken care of. Regular updates, photos, and communication are an essential part of pet care. I understand that every pet is part of the family, and I'll treat your pet with the same care and respect I would give my own. I'd love the opportunity to meet you and your furry friend! I’m currently working part-time and I have a loose routine which gives me plenty of flexibility to care for your furry family members! It’s important for me to keep to the schedules and familiarity of a pets’ routine and make a visit as stress free as possible. Being aware of surroundings on walks and ensuring safety for a pet is a top priority, which builds their trust and leads to more enjoyable play time. Paying attention their behavior and small signs of discomfort reassures owners that I care for their animals in the same way they would.
“Mary-Ashlynne was amazing. She was responsive, gave lots of great information about our cats while we were away and took extra care with our cat who needs medication. I would definitely use her services again.”

“Absolutely amazing. She is such a lovely person and so nice to work with. You can tell she genuinely cares about the animals she is working with. I am going to look for her first if I ever need to book a sitter again :)”

About: I’ve always grew up around dogs of all sizes (especially the large ones) and always have a heart for our furry friends. I take care of the dogs in our neighbor and when someone needs just to check up on the pup I’m usually the one to do it! There has never been a time where I haven’t lived with a dog so I’ve had many years of experience with dogs! I’m currently a college student and would love to spend my free time looking and caring after dogs for the ones who need an extra hand! I offer the drop in care and walks because I prefer getting to know the dogs in their own environment first before bringing them into a new one!

About: I stand out because I combine years of hands‑on pet care with formal training in progress. At home I care for a playful 9‑month‑old pup, a tiny 18‑year‑old chihuahua, plus beetles and bearded dragons—so I’m experienced with both energetic puppies and delicate seniors, as well as exotic pets. My dedication to animals has led me to pursue a future in the pet care service field. I have earned many certificates for animal care such as certification for Working with Dogs and Pet First Aid / CPR. I’m available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. -5 p.m. for dog walks, and during those hours I’m fully devoted to caring for your pets. While I balance family life with a child at home, pet care is truly part of my everyday routine—24/7 with my own animals—so giving reliable, loving attention to yours fits naturally into my schedule. I am a very “by the book” person who values safety, respect, and trust above all else. If I enter a client’s home, I make sure to only do what I am hired to do, treating both your pets and your space with the utmost care. My years of experience as a housekeeper taught me how important it is to be trustworthy and respectful of others’ belongings, and I carry those same standards into pet care. Loving animals is one of my core morals, and I would never jeopardize my family, my work, or your trust.
“Nicole was very friendly and communicative! My cat seemed to love her! She followed all instructions and was very easy to work with. I will definitely be booking with her again for my next trip out of town! Thank you, Nicole!!”

Bradley took great care of our two cats for 7 days. They were well cared for and did not lack for attention! He sent regular updates including pictures so we could see how they were doing. We were very pleased and highly recommend Bradley to care for you pets!!
Abigail was so wonderful with my cat. I am a first time cat mom. This was also my first time leaving my baby for a period of time. Abigail put my worries at ease. She gave me updates, and my baby looked very happy. She will be my first choice next time I need a sitter.

Ariane was dependable and came every day as expected while I was gone on vacation. Mia was amazing! My 2 cats are super shy and never come out when we have stranger in the house but she sent pictures each visit of them out and about! She was super sweet and very quick to respond to any messages. She stayed for a bit each visit even though I told her she didn’t have to worry about staying for long since they typically hide 🤣 Will definitely rebook with her!!

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your cat, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Powhatan. On Rover:

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
