“Mindy took care of my higher energy dog out of my home for 5 days while we were away. It was my first time having a sitter in my home like this and Mindy was absolutely amazing. She was wonderful in making sure all of my concerns were addressed and that she had all of the information she needed to provide high quality care to my pup. She sent me lots of pictures and videos and I could tell Mindy was going above and beyond to meet my dog's needs.”

“We had a great experience with Emma caring for Midnight over the past week. She was reliable, communicative, and clearly very caring with him. During the first few days, she checked in and asked thoughtful questions to make sure everything was going well, which we really appreciated. It gave us real peace of mind to know he was in good hands while we were away. We came home to a happy, well-cared-for cat and a house that was well looked after too. We’re very grateful and would gladly have her stay with Midnight again.”

“Michelle took such wonderful care of our dog and cat while we were away on Christmas week. She took our high energy dog to the dog park to play, communicate regularly and was kind to our pets. We would gladly book Michelle again in the future.”

“Kimberly did a super job with our lively beagles. The next time we need a dog sitter, we will try to hire her. She is responsible and our dogs loved her. We also appreciated her willingness to do a “meet and greet” for her first time here.”

“absolutely the best! she is so caring and loving, and took excellent care of our little buddy while we were away. always sent texts and cute pictures of playing, walks, and everything. constant communication was a plus, and helped keep our minds at ease. A+++ doggie friend and caretaker :-)”

“Mark was fantastic! We were out of town for nearly a week the first time Mark house/dog-sat (he had previously walked our pup), and Mark handled everything. Most importantly, our dog loves him! But Mark also brought in the mail, kept an eye on things around the house during some large storms, and communicated with us regularly. The day we were coming home, Mark was willing to stay later during a tornado watch when our flights were delayed. He also left the house very clean in terms of dishes and laundry, which was not required but a nice way to come back from a trip. We will definitely be using Mark again in the future!”

“Ashley was absolutely fabulous taking care of my Old English Sheepdog Whimzy while I was away in France for almost 2 weeks. I hope to have her take care of Whimzy again soon. Highly recommend!”

About: I bring years of hands-on animal care experience from veterinary clinics, kennels, and long-term pet sitting, including special-needs care for a senior dog who requires diapers, hourly potty breaks, medication management, and a strict diet. My background in veterinary support and my 5-year commitment to caring for three dogs from one family means I’m reliable, detail-oriented, and fully comfortable supporting pets with complex routines. I treat every animal with patience, confidence, and genuine love, giving owners peace of mind while they’re away. Pet care fits easily into my weekly routine because, with school wrapping up, I have plenty of time to focus on consistent, reliable visits. I plan my days around each pet’s needs, keeping feeding, walks, and medications on schedule while balancing a few prior commitments on set days. For the most part, I’m available daily, which allows me to offer flexible booking, dependable check-ins, and attentive pet-focused care that never feels rushed. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I follow their routine exactly, keeping feeding, meds, and potty schedules consistent while maintaining a calm, clean environment. I provide gentle companionship, monitor behavior and health closely, and send regular updates so owners feel connected and reassured. My goal is to respect the home, reduce stress, and ensure every pet feels safe and understood.
“Melissa did an amazing job taking care of our furry baby! She was easy to reach and responded immediately when we reached out. Loved the doggy pics we got while away! We would definitely invite Melissa back to help out!”

I have experience with a variety of dogs small and large. I am available to dog/house sit, walks, or check ins. I do not have experience in training dogs. I do also work with children 8-4 PM and so will have limited availability during the weekdays 💕 I am available for weekends. I do work with children 8-4 pm on weekdays so I do have limited availability Monday-Friday but can always make time afterwards to help 💕 I personally treat my pets like they are my children and I intend on treating all animals I encounter with the same amount of love and respect. I just kindly ask to communicate any routines or needs and I will gladly respect that 😁
About: Three years volunteering at animals shelters and caring for the animals including walks, exercise, cleaning and training of dogs, cats and rats. One year in school for veterinary medicine caring for various animals and in charge of cleaning, sanitation and care for all animals boarded at the school. Can pet sit, walk, train and provide other necessary care for your beloved pet of any kind on any day of the week. I am here for your furry loved ones like I am here for my own. Love and trust are things we must build in our relationships with our furry babies. No different than with people. Through many years of experience having pets and caring for them in various institutions, I have no problem with hard work and patience when it comes to the customized care for each individual pet.

“Jen is the perfect pal for your pups! She stayed at our home overnight and gave both our dogs lots of snuggles and walks. She even made homemade treats for them. Jen tidied up our home and washed the bedding where she stayed. Her communication is superb- if you like a lot of updates and pics, look no further!”

“Megan was wonderful with our two dogs and we would definitely use her services again! She sent pictures throughout her stay and kept us updated. We are confident that our dogs were much more comfortable and less anxious staying at home with Megan, than being boarded.”

About: I grew up with dogs and have house sat my brother's dog on numerous occasions throughout the time I've been in the Champaign area. I have also house sat cats for a friend back in Indiana. I have also house sat my parents' dog on numerous occasions. Walking dogs of various sizes is no trouble for me, and I honestly just love animals in general. I love to play with them, talk to them, and love on them as if they're my own if people let me! As of right now, I have plenty of time to play with your pets! Unless I have prior commitments, I am unlikely to refuse a request. I grew up with dogs, and I've house sat cats before, as I've mentioned. They always had food, water, playtime, and plenty of love and attention as they saw fit. I treat others' pets as if they're my own
About: I’ve always taken care of pets anywhere I go. Growing up, I couldn’t have a pet so I made sure to take any chance to spend time with friends’ pets. I’ve raised two puppies now as well as helped care for an end of life dog. I work M-F during the day, so evenings and weekends are generally free. I have a good routine with my two dogs so it would be just fine adding more pets into the mix I enjoy taking dogs on walks just as much as I like snuggling and playing. I have a very small fenced in yard, so I'm used to plenty of walking with my dogs. I also treat other peoples homes with as much respect and care as I would for the people themselves and pride myself on being trustworthy and reliable.
“Kylie was amazing, checked in every day, suffered through a storm with my big, wimp of a beast dog and my house was spotless when I got home. Highly recommended, but I’d like to save her for myself.”

“Zoey did a wonderful job caring for my cats! She was very punctual and followed my instructions very well. She was also very sweet with my cats and communicated well during her visits. I’m so happy I found Zoey. Highly recommend her.”

Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of July 2026, there are 224 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Philo. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Philo walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Philo maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Philo choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Philo. On Rover:
- 100% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 93% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 93% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
