“We were nervous about hiring a stranger to house sit all of our animals- there are five- plus fish. We had had friends of friends house sit for us until this point, and something usually went wrong. Like they killed off a whole tank of fish or that they ignored our parrot, so she plucked out quite a few feathers, and we had never left our dogs with anyone who wasn't family. We have a rescue whose previous owners severely abused him, and he takes a second to warm up to people- for this reason, we haven't left either of them in four years. They've always come with us on vacation, or one of us stays home. This time we couldn't take them, and it was a tough decision. The highest praise I can give Zachary is that Henry (our rescue) snuggled him. I am so grateful for everything Zachary did for us, from nightly proof of life photos to the meet and greet beforehand to simply asking questions to make sure he cared for everyone the way we do. Since getting home about fifteen hours ago, we've already rebooked him and given his name to one of our friends who doesn't like to leave her dog. If you want a kind, caring and dependable person to care for your animals, Zachary is it.”

“A happy animal is the best review a sitter can get but I will try to represent my perspective as well. Mia was a joy to have as a house sitter. My dog tends to go on a hunger strike when we’re gone and she was able to keep her eating in addition to spending quality time with her. Mia’s communication before and during our trip made everything easier. Looking forward to our next booking with her!”

“Ella went above and beyond in caring for our animals. Despite a miscommunication about the duration of pet care needed, she was incredibly accommodating and worked out a schedule that served us perfectly. We really appreciated her flexibility. We also had an issue with our garage door not opening, and Ella graciously went back and forth multiple times to check on the animals. Her commitment and kindness made all the difference. We highly recommend her!”

“Shadae was an excellent sitter. She sent multiple photos and updates each day. Our dog and cat seemed very comfortable and cuddly with her. We would absolutely hire her again.”

“I can’t recommend Kylie enough! We have a new German Shepherd Willow who we adopted a couple months ago from a shelter who is very sweet but can be high energy and a lot to handle for some. We also have an 11 year old cat who was diagnosed with diabetes one month ago who now gets insulin shots twice per day. This was the first weekend we went out of town since adopting Willow and starting Lucy on insulin so we were nervous about leaving them. She put us at ease during the meet and greet. The way she interacted with our pets made it apparent she was experienced and caring. While we were gone her communication was awesome- she gave us plenty of updates including pictures and videos and everything went so smoothly. Thank you!”

About: I have owned dogs my whole life and had all different ages and breeds. I love taking dogs on walk and keeping them occupied and active! I have been walking and caring for other peoples dog for a year now but always had dogs of my own. I am currently a student at FGCU and only have classes twice a week for an hour each. I am currently unemployed as well so I will be home most of the day and have a lot of freedom. I don’t have a fenced in yard but my apartment has grass areas and trails to walk on. I live on the first floor and will take your dog out several times a day. I have no dogs in the apartment but I do have a kitten who doesn’t mind dogs or other cats.
“Emily is a wonderful pet and house sitter. Her love of animals shows through with how calm and contented our dogs are when we return. She is great about communicating us while we are away. I never have a worry when she is with our dogs. Thanks Emily!”
About: I enjoyed having cats and dogs growing up. As an adult, I have taken care of both cats and dogs for friends. I also worked/volunteered at a local shelter for years. working with puppies. old, big, little and traumatized dogs. I can run with those that want to. Additionally, I’m good at fetch and tug-of-war. I have commercial auto insurance coverage for your pet in my care. And I have uploaded a copy of my PetCare Insurance in my photos that covers potential incidents in your home, my home and in the park. I’ve given medication’s. I will follow your instructions to the letter and I don’t have an opinion. I have a lot of free time while I’m working on a book and don’t really need the money. I just would love the experience. I think the most important part is safety. PetCare Insurance for the unforeseen, but vigilance eliminates a lot of that. Pets are often curious and you need to make sure they’re not getting into harms way. When I take your dog for a walk, I won’t be on my phone because you need to be on the lookout for potential danger. I can take your dog to the park, around the neighborhood, for a drive or just stand in the yard. It’s all up to you. I will follow your instructions without opinion.

About: I have had animals all of my life and have cared for them immensely. My family and friends say I have a special way with animals. I worked at a dog daycare and boarding facility for almost 2 years and got lots of experience caring for dogs there as well as opportunities to sit outside of it which has become a huge part of my life. I have knowledge and experience on all sorts of problems that may arise in both cats and dogs including cpr. I am currently a full-time purdue student who takes most classes online so I have plenty of time to care for your fur baby! I love going on walks so you can guarantee your fur baby will get some long peaceful and smellful walks! So far I have done both in-home and in my home. I make sure to have a specific wake up sleep schedule so my animals and the ones I have watched have a routine and care. As I mentioned before I love walks… so walks are guaranteed! In the clients home I make sure to provide the same level of care and attention to the pet as I would my own or in my own home!
“Tessa did a great job watching our 2 yr old lab in our home for the week Skye is very scared of new people when she meets them but made a new friend at the meet and greet! Tessa was her new play buddy and seemed at ease and comfortable with her during her stay. I know this because she would give me updates and pictures every day to put my mind at ease while we were so far away. She even helped me feed the neighborhood cats! She left our house just as clean as we left it. I will definitely be contacting her next time we need someone to watch or let Skye out for us!”

About: My schedule is pretty open and I miss my dog at home (with my parents), so caring for your dog and playing with it as if it was my own is something I am more then happy to do. I have a front yard and I will be taking your dog for walks and caring for it, as much as needed. I can jog with your dog and play with it. I love spending time with my own dog more than anything, so to have this opportunity is perfect. I have several years of animal care experience, including a facility with wild canines.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Otterbein walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Otterbein maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Otterbein choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
