We are thrilled with the job Megan did taking care of our doggies. She was attentive and caring and made us feel at ease from the first time we met. Our dogs are our “babies” and it’s hard to leave them but we didn’t worry a bit about them knowing Megan was there. She sent photos and updates which we appreciated. Would definitely want to have her back again.

I cannot recommend Lydia enough for all of your petsitting needs - she watched our pups AND backyard ducks when we went out of town for the weekend. My husband and I came home from our trip to two content and relaxed boys (our dogs) and four happy and peppy girls (our ducks). Lydia went above and beyond by taking out the trash, washing the towels, and changing the sheets before she left…we’ll most definitely use her again!

About: I have taken care of pets, walking, feeding, etc. since I was 12 years old. Not just dogs and cats, but also reptiles and amphibians. I am available before school (I’m a high school teacher) 6am - 7 am and after work, depending on location from 5 - 9 pm. I currently do not offer care for pets in my own home, however I am able to spend as much time as needed with your pet to make them comfortable while you are away.

Alina was amazing!! Our Golden has separation anxiety and has always gone on an eating strike when we leave town. Alina sent us so many updates that it made us so at ease our entire time. He actually ate more for her than for us! She treats them as her own. When we returned home she washed our sheets, left our house cleaner than we left it and left us donuts and a toy and treats for our dog. She was incredible and We can’t wait to have her back!!

We couldn’t be more thankful for Jen! She cared for our four dogs last weekend and did a truly wonderful job. From the very start, she was warm, detail-oriented, and an excellent communicator. She asked thoughtful questions at our meet-and-greet, kept us updated with photos, and made sure we always felt connected to our pups. Our dogs loved her—especially our rescue, who can sometimes be shy with new people. Jen made her feel comfortable right away, which meant so much to us. On top of that, she left our house just as she found it, which shows the care and respect she brings to her work. We will absolutely be booking with Jen again. Highly recommend her if you want peace of mind and happy pups. Thanks so much, Jen! 🐾

Sophie and Jason are a gem! They treated Cooper like their own. I would not hesitate to hire them because your fur baby will in extraordinary hands. We have hired them for overnighters, daytime and evenings. Each time they had given Cooper exceptional care. I would hire them over and over again. And you should too!!!!

About: As a lifelong dog owner, I've spent years caring for dogs and understand that every pet has their own personality and needs. I've dog-sat for family, friends, and neighbors and genuinely enjoy spending time with animals. I'm comfortable with daily walks, feeding schedules, playtime, crate-trained dogs, and providing lots of attention and affection. My goal is to make sure your pet feels safe, loved, and comfortable while you're away, while keeping you updated so you can have peace of mind. I work full-time during the week but have flexibility in my schedule to provide reliable pet care. I am available for walks and drop-in visits most afternoons and evenings, and I am available during my lunch breaks for select visits depending on location. I am also free most weekends and can provide plenty of attention, exercise, and care for your pets. I am committed to being dependable, communicative, and accommodating whenever possible Your pet's safety and comfort are my top priorities. As a lifelong dog owner, I understand the importance of following each pet's routine, including feeding schedules, exercise needs, and any special instructions. I always keep dogs securely leashed during walks, pay close attention to their behavior, and provide regular updates to owners. Whether caring for your pet in your home or during walks and drop-in visits, I will treat them with the same care, patience, and attention I would give my own pets.

About: I have been caring for dogs for over 10 years and absolutely love animals of all kinds! Since I was around 11 years old, neighbors, friends, and families in my community have trusted me to walk, feed, play with, and care for their pets. I truly love spending time with dogs whether that means going on walks, playing outside, sticking to their routines, or just relaxing and cuddling with them. I am very dependable, patient, and attentive to each dog’s personality and needs. As a full time Clemson MBA student taking online classes this summer, I also have a flexible schedule and plenty of time to give your pets lots of attention and care! I am currently a full time MBA student at Clemson taking only a few online classes this summer, which gives me a very flexible schedule for pet care! I am available during weekdays, weekends, mornings, afternoons, evenings, and overnights depending on your needs. Because my schedule is flexible, I am able to give pets lots of attention, playtime, walks, and companionship throughout the day. I love staying active with dogs and making sure they feel comfortable, cared for, and loved while their owners are away. Creating a safe, comfortable, and loving environment for pets is very important to me. If pets stay in my home, I live in a great neighborhood for walks and outdoor time, and I always make sure pets are supervised, comfortable, and sticking to their normal routines as much as possible. I am also completely comfortable staying overnight in a client’s home if that is preferred for your pet’s comfort and consistency. I understand how important trust is when leaving your pet with someone, and I always treat every animal like they are my own with lots of attention, patience, affection, and care!!

FAQs for House Sitting - Old Joe

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Old Joe on Rover is $37.45 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 1,645 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Old Joe. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Old Joe walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Old Joe maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Old Joe choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Old Joe. On Rover:

  • 94% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 98% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 98% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
