“Our sometimes energetic goldendoodle, Winnie, responded Kevin calmly and respectfully. Winnie behaved as though Kevin was a family member from the start of our introduction to Kevin. What a relief to experience Winnie’s comfort with Kevin. We like him, too! Kevin’s kind, thoughtful, easy-going demeanor makes our shared time most pleasant. We feel most fortunate that we can trust our precious Winnie with Kevin.”

“Jocelyn was so attentive to Regan’s needs and how to comfort her when we were out of town. Very good with communication and we really appreciated her availability on short notice. Will definitely try to book with her again.”

“This was my first time using Erika and she was great! She was very communicative and asked clarifying questions, as Ginger was anxious from the wind and unknown reasons. Erika is very caring and I can tell she loves animals. Ginger was happy and healthy when I came home and my house was clean and well cared for!”
“Leah has done a great job for us. This is the second time Leah has sat for us. She is a pleasure to work with and takes good care of our dogs. She leaves our house very clean and the dogs are happy with her!”

“Exceptional sitter and person. I would recommend her to any fur baby parent with complete confidence!! Teddy just loved her and he is particular. She was respectful of my home and devoted/attentive to my baby while I was away.”

About: I have watched dogs, cats, fish, almost everything you can think of. I love watching pets and want to make more out of it and be of help when I can! I’m able to fit pet care into my schedule by planning ahead and being flexible with visits and stays whenever possible. I keep my commitments organized so I can give each pet my full attention without rushing. I’m reliable with timing and communication, and I make sure pet care is a priority when I’ve accepted a booking. Whether it’s drop-ins, feeding, litter box care, or playtime, I work to make my availability consistent and dependable so your pets are cared for when they need it most. Your pet’s safety and your trust are my top priorities. I take time to follow all care instructions carefully, keep a close eye on each pet, and make sure their environment stays clean, calm, and secure. I’m attentive to details like feeding routines, litter box care, behavior changes, and comfort levels so nothing gets missed. I also believe in clear communication, so you’ll receive updates and reassurance while you’re away. My goal is to give you peace of mind knowing your pets are safe, loved, and well cared for at all times.
“Marissa was awesome! She listed to all my details during the meet and greet. She was communicative and responsible. She sent me regular updates. I came home to happy dogs. I’m absolutely using her again and I would recommend her!”

“Highly recommend! It’s hard leaving your fur babies when you’re gone for an extended period of time but Vanessa kept me at ease! Photos and videos with updates each day and took care of our house as well. Will be booking again.”

“Isabella is prompt, reliable, communicates quickly and took great care of the pooches while we were away. They have found a new friend and can't wait for us to use Isabelle again.”

“Lewis was a wonderful dog sitter! Our dogs were well taken care of, and he left our house clean and tidy. He provided ample updates so we didn't have to worry about our dogs while we were away. He also watered some plants for me. We'll certainly use him again!”

“We were in a last-minute bind with an unexpected puppy and nowhere to board her and our other dog for a week (our puppy hadn’t had all of her shots yet). Dillon scheduled an impromptu Meet and Greet the day before we left. And was able to come to our house and watch all of our animals. I was very nervous to have a stranger in our home but I read all of the reviews on Rover and took a chance. Dillon is very mellow - as is his pup. We were grateful Dillon (and Bucky) were a good fit in our situation.”

About: I have plenty of pup care from family, friends and fur babies of my own. I can do anything your baby needs and more. From only a few weeks old to an old doggo. My schedules are super flexible whatever your pup or kitty needs I can make happen for them. I am in the military so availability will vary. I wake up early most days and take my pup out for a potty break and following that I feed her. Depending how busy the day is I will take her to the park or if I am watching other pets I will take them on a super long walk.
“Raquel was incredible - start to finish. She's a great communicator and wonderful with our high energy dogs. She left our house even cleaner than we left it. Highly recommend!”

“Joe was terrific with our two Irish Red & White Setters. We found Joe to be reliable, trustworthy and most important great with dogs. We will absolutely request Joe again.”

“Rory was fantastic! 11ish days with my temperamental chi and his 4 kitties... I will definitely be keeping her on my shortlist for future trips! Rory sent pics and videos during my trip to help ease my anxiety of being away from the babies. I can tell my brood had a good experience!”

“We had Maddie watch our labs for 2 nights and a day, she did awesome. Always sent us pictures and the house looked perfect. We would use her again. She was so good with our dogs”

About: Hi! I'm a dependable and caring pet lover who enjoys spending time with animals and making sure they feel comfortable, safe, and happy while their owners are away. While I don't have years of professional pet care experience, I have cared for pets for friends, family, and people in my community. Through these experiences, I've learned the importance of being attentive to each pet's needs, following instructions carefully, and providing consistent care. I'm comfortable with daily tasks such as walking dogs, feeding pets, refilling water, playing with them, providing companionship, and maintaining their normal routines. As a doctoral student, I am planning to spend most of my summer time writing so I have a flexible schedule and can dedicate quality time to the pets I care for. I understand that every pet is different, and I take the responsibility seriously by showing up on time, communicating clearly, and treating every pet with kindness and respect. If you're looking for someone who is trustworthy, genuine, and committed to getting the job done while making sure your pet feels cared for, I'd love the opportunity to help.
“Christine was wonderful with our dog, Linus. Linus is very leery of new people and it takes some patience to fully gain his trust, to understand and appreciate him! She was perfect for him! They were fast friends and he was a happy pup in our absence. What more could a dog mom want!? Highly recommend!”

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Norfolk walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Norfolk maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Norfolk choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Norfolk. On Rover:
- 96% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 99% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
