“Heather was wonderful to have stay with our girls while we were out of the country. One needs a bit more care now and we worried about leaving her. However, Heather had no problem providing them with everything they needed while we were away. She was great with communication and our house was just as we left it.”

“Merissa is so wonderful, kind, prompt, and genuinely caring!! My boy loved her and she took amazing care of him!! Highly recommend her for all your pet care needs!”

“Absolutely thrilled with Ashleigh. She cared for our Afghan Hound and 8 cats!!!! The animals loved her, she sent pics everyday, she has great communication, she cared for our home very well, she is easy going, I can’t say enough positive things about her. Highly highly recommend!!!!”

“Ayva took wonderful care of our dog, Bondi, for four days while staying at our home, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience. From the very beginning, Ayva was responsible, kind, and genuinely caring toward Bondi. It was clear that she loves animals and treats them with patience and affection. Bondi was happy, well-exercised, and calm when we returned, which says everything about the quality of care he received. Ayva followed all our instructions carefully, kept the home neat and tidy, and regularly updated us, which gave us great peace of mind while we were away. We felt completely comfortable leaving both our home and our beloved dog in Ayva’s care. She is trustworthy, reliable, and thoughtful, exactly the kind of person you hope to find when you need someone to look after your pet. We would highly recommend Ayva to anyone looking for a dependable and caring pet-sitter and would happily ask her to help again in the future. 🐶💛”

“Our experience with Jessica was absolutely amazing. We were gone for a week, and she took such incredible care of our two dogs. Taking care of two dogs can be a lot, but Jessica handled everything so well and made the whole process stress-free for us She kept us updated regularly with pictures and messages, and it was clear the dogs were getting tons of love, attention, and care every single day. One of our dogs is usually cautious around new people and was completely adamant about not warming up to anyone at first but by mid week, they had become best buddies. Seeing that level of trust and comfort honestly meant so much to us. When we got home, the dogs were so happy, relaxed, and attached to her routine that it actually took them almost 10 minutes to realize we were back! That alone says everything about how comfortable and cared for they felt during the stay. We’re very grateful for the care and attention she gave our pups and would gladly trust her again in the future. Highly recommend”

“Natasha was amazing. She met with us before sitting for us and made sure she knew everything she needed to know beforehand. She was very gentle and kind with our girls and patient with our senior dog. She sent us pics and let us know how they were doing. Very trustworthy in our home and respected our wishes of not having anyone over (which we’ve had problems with in the past with other dog sitters.) We will definitely be using her again as our regular sitter.”

“Amazing experience for this new dog owner! Petra was extremely quick to reply and kept me up to date on how my puppy was doing my first night out after getting her. My dog was comfortable with her right away and Petra did an amazing job taking care of her.”

“Anna watched our dogs in our home for a long weekend. She sent lots of updates with photos and our pups seemed happy to have her caring for them. Even our most shy and apprehensive dog warmed up to Anna quickly!”

“Rima was very attentive with the dogs. She sent pictures and videos frequently so that we could see that the dogs were doing well. She spent a lot of time outdoors with them. She cleaned up after their poops. She washed towels and sheets so we came home to a clean house. We would use Rima again. We travel frequently to visit our children.”

“Abigail was so amazing I’m almost hesitant to leave a great review because I don’t want to share her with anyone else! We have been looking for a while for a Pet Sitter we love and trust. We definitely found that with Abigail! Hoping she continues to be our Pet Sitter for the foreseeable future. She was absolutely amazing with the animals.”

“Jenna and Aidan were fantastic with house sitting and watching our boys. They were extremely reliable, and we're looking forward to rebooking with them again soon!”

“Sara was by far one of the best pet sitter we have had! She was communicative, and very trustworthy- both making it extremely easy to work with her. We will be reaching out for future visits! Thank you so much for taking such good care of our dogs- this allowed us to both relax on our trip!!”

“Madalyn was a phenomenal sitter for our fur pack of five. She communicated with us consistently and provided compassionate care to each of our pets. We have two senior dogs and one energetic three-year-old, and she met each of their needs in addition to being attentive to the cats. She sent awesome photographs and really captured all of our animals. It was wonderful being away and knowing she was there. Madeline rocked”

About: I’ve had my own animals, both cats and dogs (mainly cats) since I was 6 years old. I’ve had to administer insulin before to my diabetic cat that has since passed. My experience with dogs are mainly of the bigger size (I had a pitbull/boxer mix and a pure bred chow chow). I’m currently working as a Direct Support Professional overnights 9pm-9am Thursday through Saturday (technically Sunday 9am). So I’m pretty open for picking up last minute gigs if needed. I would love to have a break down of your pets day to day. Typically when they are most ready to play or eat. When potty breaks need to be done around.
“Wonderful in all ways! Her care of Jake was spectacular!! Becca sent daily updates, house was super clean when we returned. Becca is very kind, easy, responsible, practical and caring - understands house care as well as loving our dog. A truly rewarding experience.”

FAQs for House Sitting - New Scotland
Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of July 2026, there are 604 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across New Scotland. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred New Scotland walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in New Scotland maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in New Scotland choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
